By \u0000testing the asymmetry hypothesis in placement vs. removal events, we determined that various predicates are used to encode these events in Ilami Kurdish. Data were collected using \u0000a set of video clips including the ‘put and take’ stimuli (Bowerman et al., 2004) with ten Ilami \u0000Kurdish speakers, who described the occasions when placement and removal events were \u0000required. The results of this first experiment show that there are asymmetric correlations \u0000between placement and removal events in terms of verbal predicates. In fact, proportionally more fine-grained types of placement predicates are observed in the descriptions of the \u0000Kurdish consultants. Accordingly, it can be concluded that placement events, in comparison \u0000with removal events, are cognitively more salient and intricate in the mind of Kurdish speakers, which is directly connected with such linguistic distinctions as properties of the figure, \u0000force-dynamic notions, and manner of motion, which are more determinant in placement \u0000events than removal events. In the next part of this study, the Goal-over-Source predominance hypothesis was explored in placement and removal events. This hypothesis was tested \u0000on the basis of linguistic descriptions as well as a memory task. In the descriptive task, a set of \u0000video clips of placement and removal events, including different source and goal paths, was \u0000used. Respondents participating in this experiment described each scene after they watched \u0000it. In the memory task, participants were asked to watch the scenes of placement and removal \u0000events as well as matched events and then judge whether source or goal components can be \u0000matched or not. It was found that in these tasks, the goal component was mentioned more often and more accurately matched, respectively. These findings support the Goal-over-Source \u0000predominance hypothesis and highlight the cognitive importance of the goal component in \u0000placement events compared to the source component in removal events.

EnglishLanguages are distinguished, in typological terms, between those which have a specific grammatical form to mark benefactive participants and a different form to code malefactives, and those which do not differentiate those categories with specific marks. Spanish is usually classified among this last type of languages (Smith, 2005; Radetzky & Smith, 2010: 99). It is argued that this language has an affectation construction, the dative one, which can yield a positive effect or, as well, a negative one. In this work, we present a semantic-syntactic analysis based on usage data from Mexican Spanish that shows that the speakers tent, in frequency terms, to use two different constructions for the codification of an affected participant: the agentive and the eventive constructions. The first one shows a specialization on positive affectation and the second one amply has a negative connotation. This suggests the necessity of properly distinguishing between two subtypes of affected datives: the benefactive and the malefactive. In this sense, it is possible to claim that Spanish belongs, at least partially, to the typological class of languages that formally code the difference between those semantic roles.

EnglishThis research explored the relationship between a set of variables, such as reading comprehension and logical-mathematical intelligence, along with two sets of cognitive and learning variables, in respect to overall school performance and school performance in the subject of Spanish Language in a population of socially vulnerable secondary school students (N=688) The main objective of this study was to examine the differences and quantify the effect of the addition of the above-mentioned variables to an explanatory model for academic performance. For this purpose, comparative analysis, bivariate correlation and stepwise multiple regression models were used. The results showed that 34.9% of the variance of students’ grade point average in the subject of Spanish Language could be explained by the variables that were added to the model. The positive effect of reading comprehension, achievement attributed to effort, and the self-regulation strategy of revision stood out in this model. At the same time, a negative effect was found for older age and attributing achievement to external causes. In addition, the explanatory model introduced in this article showed greater predictive power for the female group; notably the variable critical comprehension also had a positive effect for the female group. Finally, the main educational implications for these findings are analyzed and discussed in this paper.

For this purpose, our analysis has focused on the degree to which Coseriu’s interest in differentiation finds its roots in philosophy, additionally examining what aspects of Coseriu’s linguistic thinking, what argumentation procedures and what essential categorizations and concepts of his linguistic theorization originate in issues of a philosophical nature mainly associated not with philosophy of language, but with philosophy of Linguistics.

The identification of difficulties of the pronunciation, the work on its correction in the phases of remediation and post-remediation are the essential steps of teaching methodology. To implement this methodology, we performed a contrastive analysis of the vocal and consonant systems of the target language (French) and the mother tongue (standard Arabic), as well as the implementation of exercises, activities, and assessment tests at the end of the learning. The present study focuses on the deaf /p/ occlusive consonant and the nasal vowels /ӑ/, /ɛ/, /ɔ /, which Jordanian students tend to confuse.
