The study is based on a sample of ten informants native to Santiago in \u0000sociolinguistic interviews using four speech styles. Additionally, a careful procedure of spectrographic inspections and identification of non-deleted and deleted variants of the series \u0000was defined. After the coding and analysis, it is concluded that the voiced plosive series does \u0000not present a regular behaviour in the deletion of these segments in intervocalic contexts. \u0000Deletion of voiced plosives /b/ and /d/ was found mainly in reduced speech contexts, but \u0000style of speech was not a factor for /g/ deletion. Voiced plosive /d/ showed 65.6% of deletion, \u0000in addition to showing a stronger tendency to deletion in more linguistic contexts and across \u0000genders. Voiced plosive /b/ showed 37.6% of deletion, in similar linguistic contexts as for /d/, \u0000but more predominant in male speakers. Voiced plosive /g/ showed 5.8% of deletion, and its \u0000conditioning for deletion differed from /b/ and /d/ with regards to linguistic factors, and neither gender nor speech style were seen as factors involved in its deletion.

Picture-Text Dynamics and Intersemiotic Translation in Roald Dahl’s Matilda
The present paper is an analysis of the illustrations of Roald Dahl’s Matilda (2016 [1988]) \u0000through the prism of intersemiotic translation. The main purposes of this study are to determine the type of relationships established between text and pictures in the novel and \u0000to identify how the illustrator represents some of its main topics, to wit: the importance of \u0000books and education, adults’ abuse of power, rebellion, and school mistreatment. In order to \u0000achieve these objectives, the paper analyzes the interrelation between several passages of \u0000the text and their corresponding illustrations. Subsequently, the study categorizes the different dynamics established between text and pictures and discusses how some procedures \u0000connected to Translation Studies can be aligned with the decisions taken by the illustrator \u0000when depicting the foregoing themes. As a result, the paper concludes that Matilda’s illustrations work as emphasizers of some of the messages Dahl intended to transmit to his readership when writing this book.

It is therefore of the utmost importance to develop the current state of \u0000knowledge on translation and interpreting in legal contexts, in a way that will professionalise \u0000the image of translators and interpreters in these areas. After conducting previous research \u0000studies in which we analysed the combination of language and law in university curricula \u0000and another one in which we sought to raise awareness among law students about the importance of interdisciplinary work between linguists and legal experts (2017a), with this study \u0000we aimed to go further by conducting research on how much legal professionals know about \u0000translation and interpreting in Spain. After a preliminary literature review on the topic, we \u0000will explain the methodology of our study and then show the results of the survey that was \u0000distributed among legal professionals in Spain. The conclusions will allow us to critically reflect on the topic and suggest ways to go past the thick veil of ignorance that still covers the \u0000work carried out by professional translators and interpreters.
