This article studies the influence of the Spanish Golden Age on poems that Pinto Delgado published in France in 1627 to show how these works express a \"New Jewish,\" or heretofore forbidden Jewish voice. By analyzing texts that treat themes from the books of Esther, Lamentations, and Exodus, the article explores how Pinto Delgado communicated Jewish themes, regardless of his ability to live openly as a Jew. Additionally, by comparing his poetry with works of Jorge Manrique, Fray Luis de León, and Luis de Góngora, the article proposes that the Jewish perspective of Pinto Delgado coexisted with a Spanish literary one.RESUMEN:La poesía de João Pinto Delgado, un judeoconverso portugués, adoptó las convenciones literarias del Barroco para expresar el punto de vista de un cristiano nuevo quien estaba demostrando en castellano una identidad judía. Este artículo estudia la influencia del Siglo de Oro español en los poemas que Pinto Delgado publicó en Francia en 1627 para mostrar cómo estas obras revelan una voz \"nuevo-judía\" anteriormente prohibida. Por analizar los textos que tratan los temas de los libros de Esther, Lamentaciones y Éxodo, el artículo explora cómo Pinto Delgado comunicó los temas judíos, independientemente de su habilidad de vivir como judío. Además, al comparar su poesía con las obras de Jorge Manrique, Fray Luis de León y Luis de Góngora, el artículo propone que la perspectiva judía de Pinto Delgado coexistió con una identidad literaria española.","PeriodicalId":29842,"journal":{"name":"Caliope-Journal of the Society for Renaissance and Baroque Hispanic Poetry","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88008441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The compilational process was riddled with tensions among the different agents involved in textual production and resulted in the creation of a supra-authorship that involved a narrative of the self as a powerful textual agent. A strong compiler was characterized by poetic competence, authorial abilities, pervasive exhaustivity, and textual access and control.RESUMEN:En este artículo se analizan algunas de las estrategias relacionadas con la compilación de cancioneros colectivos tales como el Cancionero General de Hernando del Castillo y el Cancioneiro geral de Garcia de Resende, donde los compiladores establecen una fuerte presencia textual. El proceso compilatorio fomentaba tensiones entre los diferentes individuos que participaban en la producción textual, lo que resultó en la imposición de una supra-autoría apoyada en la poderosa habilidad textual del compilador. El compilador se caracterizaba por su competencia poética y habilidades autoriales, así como una total exhaustividad y un acceso y control textuales privilegiados.","PeriodicalId":29842,"journal":{"name":"Caliope-Journal of the Society for Renaissance and Baroque Hispanic Poetry","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2018-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81306682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So far studies have connected both discursive practices exclusively in terms of language and style. In my essay I examine a number of preaching treatises in which, curiously enough, their authors reflect on the role of poetry and the material space of preaching. Specifically, I analyze how the link between the materiality of the pulpit (shape, size, location, materials, acoustics) and that of the poetic word becomes a space in which we can better understand the relationships between subject, materiality, language, and power in the seventeenth century. Following Agamben's ideas on liturgy, I show that it is possible to reconstruct the (unfinished and unconcluded) process of creation of the Baroque preacher by studying the unexpected resistances that authors of preaching treatises find when reflecting on the materiality of the pulpit and the poetic language.RESUMEN:La relación entre poesía y predicación en el Barroco es un aspecto no del todo explorado por la crítica. Los estudios dedicados a este vínculo conectaron estas dos prácticas discursivas exclusivamente a través del lenguaje y del estilo. En mi ensayo examino un grupo de tratados de predicación donde, curiosamente, se reflexiona de manera similar sobre el rol de la poesía y el espacio material de la prédica. Específicamente, analizo cómo el vínculo entre la materialidad del púlpito (forma, tamaño, ubicación, materiales, sonoridad) y de la palabra poética se presenta como un espacio donde entender las relaciones entre sujeto, materialidad, lenguaje y poder en el siglo XVII. Siguiendo los postulados de Giorgio Agamben en torno a la liturgia, demuestro que es posible reconstruir el proceso (inacabado e inconcluso) de formación del predicador barroco estudiando las resistencias inesperadas que los tratadistas encuentran al reflexionar en torno a la materialidad del púlpito y del lenguaje poético.","PeriodicalId":29842,"journal":{"name":"Caliope-Journal of the Society for Renaissance and Baroque Hispanic Poetry","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2018-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79770638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These texts had circulated in New Spain as sueltas and were published again with changes in the Segundo volumen (Sevilla: Tomás Lopez de Haro, 1692). In order to determine the sources from which Llopis took these texts and his intentions in bringing them to the press, this paper aims, firstly, to underscore the textual differences among witnesses in order to establish relationships among them; secondly, to interpret relevant information regarding book trade and the dissemination of books in New Spain, as well as Llopis's own editorial practices.RESUMEN:El presente trabajo busca centrarse en las tres series de villancicos y el auto sacramental El divino Narciso, publicados en España por primera vez en una reedición del primer tomo de las obras de sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (Barcelona: Joseph Llopis, 1691).
