Work/family initiatives can assist employees in garnering resources to manage the multiple and sometimes conflicting demands of work and family life. This coincides with the continuing efforts of corporations to downsize, tighten budgets while increasing the stress factor for all involved parties. Accountability has never been more important. Prior to the 1990’s Employee Assistance Program Managers had been lukewarm to the idea of having a computer on site with vital information previously residing in paper files. Many managers believed that housing information in a computer was somehow compromising the confidentiality of their clients as well as the legitimacy of the entire EA. Other arguments against computerizing was and still may be due in part to fear of change and a perceived lack of control. Over the last few years EA professionals have become more receptive to computerizing primarily due to articles that have appeared in various publications and as a result of presentations that reflect the need to replace time-inefficient and cost-ineffective manual systems.","PeriodicalId":246202,"journal":{"name":"Employee Assistance Quarterly","volume":"174 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122954435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As companies are becoming increasingly concerned about the quality of their services, EAPs and managed behavioral health care organizations (MBHC) are being required to present quantifiable data that indicates that their programs are of an acceptable level of quality. Clinical review is one method to objectively measure the quality of documentation and clinical work of EAPs and MBHCs. This method is clearly outlined in the article and its relevance to a total quality management framework utilizing “six sigma” criteria is illustrated. The findings presented in this article support the notion that quality-of-care in the employee assistance field is often lacking. Implications for below standard quality services are discussed and recommendations for improving the field are suggested.","PeriodicalId":246202,"journal":{"name":"Employee Assistance Quarterly","volume":"2016 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2000-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125643834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
