Dependent Care in the 21st Century

Abstract

Summary This chapter suggests that a significant percentage of the workforce, primarily female, is increasingly required to manage concerns with providing caregiving to family members, which can be a drain on their workplace productivity. The definition of dependent care is broadened to include not only child care; but, elder care and caregiving for an employee's significant others who may be affected by illness or a debilitating health condition.
