Abstract : The integration of mythological elements in Peruvian literature, which is very evident in many works that come under the ‘indigenismo’-movement, is also clearly visible in fantastic narrative to the extent that it constitutes a very peculiar subgenre. This ‘fantastico andinizado’ integrates some Andean myths in the context of daily life in order to set in motion the “vacillation”, which is essential for the fantastic genre as such. In Peruvian narrative this process is exemplified in El Ekeko , written by Jorge Eduardo Benavides. In this short story, the homonymous mythological figure generates the two basic modalities of the fantastic genre: by invading the veracious world in which the hero lives it links up with ‘lo fantastico de percepcion’, while by configuring a double of the narrator and installing an unnatural narrative situation it participates in ‘lo fantastico de lenguaje’. As a result, the Andean reality can be seen as a technical and thematic process which is able to create the fantastic effect and to open up some surprising interpretative avenues. Abstract: The proposal presented here stems from some tensions made possible by the reading of Jose Maria Arguedas at the 50 years of his death, from the debates of authors of the “ontological turn” and the “epistemological turn” in the production of anthropological knowledge. In this sense, I return to the book Los Rios Profundos (1958) by Arguedas and put in dialogue with concerns about Earth Beings. I also take the metaphor of Romulo Monte Alto’s Pachachaca (2011) and the epistemological, therefore political, concerns of Latin American anticolonial critical theory, in particular Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui’s ch’ixi category. Abstract: This work aims at addressing one perspective of reading about the narrator of Los rios profundos (2016), written by Jose Maria Arguedas (1911-1969), based on the relations between the heterogeneity and the melancholy. Cornejo Polar (2008), for example, was a pioneer in discussing, within his discussions about the heterogeneity – i.e., the conflictuous intersection of two or more sociocultural universes in only one literary extract – reflections about the narrator-character and his memories. Angel Rama (2008), in turn, elaborated a theory that emphasizes the relevance of two narrators, one main and one ethnological, who form a synthetic whole. In order to retake the validity of the Cornejo Polar’s contributions, also Alberto Moreiras’s (2001) and Marcos Natali’s (2005), we try to relate the heterogeneity and the melancholy to the narrator, since the former, conflicting by nature, allows the emergence of the latter, also conflicting, double, and ambiguous. In addition, an approximation of heterogeneity with translation and, of course, with melancholy is rapidly undertaken. It is noteworthy that this study does not commit to the clinical nor to the psychoanalytical area. Cornejo Polar’s, Walter Benjamin’s (2013, 2016) and Susana Kampff Lages’s (2007) contributions were considered to carry out the analytical project. Abstract: The Orkopata group and its Titikaka Bulletin had a broad system of networks that contributed to the “export” of their aesthetics to other places such as Bolivia and Argentina. In this work we investigate the potential of using the notion of “Andean avant-garde” beyond the Peruvian limit, in order to enrich literary studies located in other regions. Previously, we made a tour of the different categories that were rehearsed to reflect on the aesthetics of the Bulletin : “Avant-garde Indigenism” (VICH, 2000), “Andean Vanguardism” (MAMANI MACEDO, 2017), “Vanguardia del Titikaka” (MONASTERIOS PEREZ, 2015), “Avant-garde Indianism” (DE LLANO, 2015). The variation in the way of stating and defining the object of each of these notions will have an impact on the possibility of considering other aesthetic phenomena under these terms. The writing of the letter itself is a document of resistance through Andean as well as Amazonian territories: against institutional power, religious values, justice, and corruption. In doing so, the letter shares the main characteristics present in the works of art produced by Glauber Rocha during Cinema Novo. This means that the aesthetics of hunger should be understood as an atemporal response to historical and structural violence, instead of an aesthetical phenomenon limited to the context of Cinema Novo in Brazil. In more practical terms, this investigation identifies the mechanisms of the aesthetics of hunger in Lope de Aguirre’s Letter to the King . It demonstrates that such aesthetics is a collective recurrent phenomenon in Latin America’s history since its colonization. The aesthetics of hunger, thus, contests not only the work of art in the 20th century through Cinema Novo, or the tradition of foundational documents (travel chronicles) in the late 1400s and early 1500s, but most importantly, it allows literary criticism to approach the matter of hunger as a counterpoint to – not a form of subjugation by – (post)colonial practices. Abstract: In The Lover , Marguerite Duras echoes the critical studies of the poststructuralists and feminists, when she deconstructs the myths of the female body, breaking the patriarchal dichotomy man-woman , while reconstructing another universe which includes subjects that have been traditionally marginalised (homosexuality, prostitution and incest). In fact, she represents an innovative and revolutionary language that contrasts with the patriarchal discourses of the first half of the twentieth century. Instead of speaking about her as a feminine subject objectified by the male gaze, Duras creates a new discourse that represents woman as a legitimized subject that fixes her gaze on her body, living its erotic desires and embracing those of others. Duras elaborates the discourse of the body adorning it with new connotations that liberate it, while recognizing the alienation that haunts it. Abstract: This article analyzes the inversely proportional relationship that, according to Jose Marti, exists between modernization and human development. Therefore, this paper studies the way the Martinian flâneur perceives, by observing the urban-frenetic atmosphere in “Coney Island” and “Amor de ciudad grande”, the encounter and disagreement between modern space (the city), modernization (economic system marked by the industrial and technological development) and social alienation. In order to carry out this research, I took as starting point the descriptive topos of locus horribilis , which constitutes a useful tool to explain how Jose Marti describes New York as a symbol of human degradation created by the process of modernization. Instead of analyzing the motifs that make the modernized city a locus horribilis , this paper examines the motifs that suggest that modernization has turned the city into a place dominated by distortion of the concepts of carpe diem , hedonism, locus amoenus and affirmation of the concepts of splendor and tempus fugit .
