Abstract

Abstract: In this paper we pursue to reflect on how the allegories of oil and silk are represented in the short story “O balsamo” from the amapaense writer Fernando Canto, given that such textual allegories help to demarcate power and knowledge relations between the native (albino) and foreign (silk tunics) in the universe of the Amazon rainforest. Thus, we seek to analyze the metaphorical meaning of the terms oil and silk, in order to show how these two elements can assume the function of a device, since in the short story they stand as strategic mechanisms of seduction for the indigenous bodies.
