{"title":"FUNCTIONAL POTENTIAL OF HASHTAGS","authors":"Давидюк Н.О.","doi":"10.32589/2311-0821.1.2017.120684","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.32589/2311-0821.1.2017.120684","url":null,"abstract":"The article explores functional potential of hashtags as technodiscoursive phenomenawhich were introduced in social media network Twitter in order to organize its discourse andto make it searchable, and whose capabilities influenced not only development of Internet discourse,but also our perception of the world. The article focuses, in particular, on the evolution andextension of hashtags’ functions and proposes functional classification of hashtags, detectingthe following functional roles and types of hashtags: topic markers of separate tweets / seriesof tweets, organizers of narratives (of monological, dialogical or polylogical character) and specificdiscussions, markers of rubrics (uniting tweets which have different topics, but accomplish the samepragmatic purpose). Through these functions hashtags structure and organize Twitter-discourse,accomplishing the function of folksonomy (social classification) tools and assuring “searchability”of Twitter-discourse. The most popular hashtags enable users to observe the “history of society’sworries and preoccupations” and the reaction of world community or citizens of certain country /region to specific events / phenomena. Hashtags also assure quick diffusion of information at verylarge scale (including information about violent events or other urgent matters); act as promotiontools for brands and ideas, being at the same time instruments of market, competitors and clients’preferences monitoring. One of the most important hashtags’ functions is a social one, giventhe fact that hashtags conditioned the emergence and now assure functioning of socio-culturaldigital practices-rituals in Twitter. Another group is represented by hashtags that expressemotions / judgments / evaluation, exercising predicative & classificatory function; there are also hashtags-modalisators in Twitter which act, in fact, as explicit interpretative instructionsfor the tweets they figure in. Herashenko.The textual and linguistic analysis of this publication allowed to make a conclusion that prayerbook was performed according to the translational principles formed by Synodal Commissionheaded by the bishop Parfeniy Levytsky. It was the Commission which during 1905–1911 yearspublished Ukrainian Four Gospels based on the translation of Gospel by P. Morachevsky. Thesetranslation principles formed once by P. The problem of choosing and selecting the texts used in educationalprocess is rather actual and caused by teaching tasks in their broad sense. Instructional textsshould be the means for realization a certain amount of educational tasks, such as socioculturaldevelopment of the personality as an active participant of the educational process and bringingup this personality taking into consideration urgent demands which rise up in the developmentof the society. Purpose. The paper aims to ascertain the types and functions of texts used inteaching discourse and identify their interconnection in realization of educational tasks. Methods.The paper demonstrates the applying of certain system of methods which aim to comparestructural and semantic, communicative features of the instructional text and teaching discourse.Results. It is proved that the differentiation of these two concepts is methodologically grounded.Instructional text is a static phenomenon with the established and complete form, a result ofan activity which under certain conditions provokes another activity – the discourse activitythat stresses the dynamic character of the educational process developed in time and space.The logics of the teaching discourse initially displays itself on the basis of fixed textual information(meaningful and formal) that accordingly serves as the basis for creative interpretation ofthe text according to the tasks of teaching. The paper focuses on the concept of polemic discourse as public verbalcollision in the process of which the author breaks the principles of ethical communication inorder to realize certain tasks. In verbal practice metaphor of polemics reveals its power basedon the physical collision sensory-motor experience. Purpose. The paper aims to highlight theconceptual understanding of public verbal collision that is grounded on the image schema ofBLOCKING, which means making the opponent face some obstacle, and COUNTERATTACK,that illustrates the way of collision of two equally powerful opponents whose character ofattacks is different. Methods. The methodology of the given research is based on comparative,conceptual and linguocognitive methods of characterization the mechanisms of conducting thedebate to achieve certain results in polemic discourse verbalized in English and Ukrainian.Results. Studying the mechanism of polemic discourse, the paper emphasizes that BLOCKINGpredetermines the strategy reasoning to make the opponent look like some obstacle forthe author. COUNTERATTACK reflects the interactive character of verbal collision betweenthe participants of the debate, and author and opponent change their parts from time to time.It is proved that sensory-motor factors influence the verbalization of the collision polemicpower which is realized in such notions as conflict, fight, war and aggression. During theirdebate the opponents use so called verbal collision weapons which hit but don’t kill physically.Conclusion. The paper identifies the participants of polemic discourse: sender and two addresses(opponent and listeners). The sender, who is the author of polemic discourse, stands for differentsocial institutions’ points of view. His main tasks are the following: to lower the social statusof the opponent and to get as many as possible supporters among the listeners. Like the authorthe opponent is explicated in the polemics as the person who states the opinion of differentinstitutions. The paper highlights the stylistic, functional and semantic features ofcommunicative unit as fixed phrase scheme in modern Ukrainian animated cartoons for children.The concept of communicative unit as fixed phrase scheme is under the given investigation.Such units are characterized by laconic and informative content, thus becoming an integralpart of a communicative act, attracting attention and contributing to a better understanding ofthe interlocutors. The factors of formation of communicative unit as fixed phrase schemes(social, situational, normative, the principle of stereotyping, language expressiveness andactualization of linguistic signs) are outlined. The paper suggests distinguishing the affirmative,negative and emotionally evaluative communicative unit as fixed phrase schemes. So, the typesof fixed phrases models represented in dialogues between the characters are singled out. Oralspontaneous communication requires the automatic skills of the speaker demonstrating his lexical,phraseological and grammatical knowledge. The focus of special linguistic interest is inthe grammatical constructions, prototypes of models of communication in different situations.After all, assimilation ofstereotypesfacilitates communication, allows us not to create the expressionsevery time, but to recreate it as a ready phrase. Purpose. The paper aims at studying the structuraland functional types of communicative unit as fixed phrase schemes in modern Ukrainianspeaking animation. Methods. To achieve the purpose and solve the tasks the following methodswere used: descriptive, component and functional and stylistic analysis. Results. The resultsshowed that communicative units are important for conversational and dialogical form of language.Conclusion. Dominant communicative units as fixed phrase schemes in the conversationsbetween cartoon characters are those that perform the function of affirmation, negation,negative emotional evaluation. Based on the structural symmetry criterion the paper focuses on thestatus of compound constructions which have half-symmetric pronouns in correlated clauses.In contemporary Ukrainian linguistics there are two dominant perspectives on the problem:1) the semantics of compound constructions, which influences the structure of half-symmetricpronouns correlated clauses; 2) type of connection between the correlate and the relate. Eventhis traditional approach does not have a single interpretation, in particular there are differencesin terminology and the formation of a clear criterion for defining certain subtypes. Purpose.The paper aims to clarify the understanding the concept of half-symmetrical pronouns correlatedsentences, singled out on semantic criterion. Results. The results of this paper specify the useof linguistic terms and clarify the theory of pronoun-compound sentencesstructural organization.In addition to the generally accepted principle of semantic identity, there is a sentence withcomplete and incomplete semantic opposition between the pronominal word and the relate word.In this paper the term “half-symmetric sentences” introduces. These structures has the transitionalstatus between symmetric and asymmetric sentences, because they demonstrates the correlationof general semantic (locality, temporality). The correlative block units have different typeof meaning in this sentences. Conclusion. According to this paper, it is appropriate to delimitthe broad and the narrow interpretations of the concept of “syntactic asymmetry”. It is necessaryto classify all pronoun-compound sentences into three groups: symmetric, asymmetric and halfsymmetric structures. The paper highlights the way of combinationthe logics, language game and humor in Hungarian on the samples of everyday communicativesituations. The novelty of the research is in the study of the language games grounded onthe Hungarian humor whose mechanism has not been the object of deep analysis in Ukrainianlinguistics yet. The paper reveals peculiar features of the Hungarian logics and language gamein making humoristic effect.Special emphasis is paid to the logical structure of Hungarianwords. Devoted to the Day of the Hungarian language the paper aims at defining the usage andthe impact of language game that is important for studying and teaching Hungarian languagestructure. The practical value of the paper is in the suggested methods of interpreting the functionsof language game and logical meaning of the lexemes framing the language game in Hungariancommunicative situations. The article is dedicated to one of topical issues of modern linguistics – language manipulation in fictional texts of love discourse, and highlights the specifics of applying translation strategies while rendering language manipulation means into Ukrainian. Purpose. The paper aims to describe the system of language manipulation means in love discourse and ways of their reproduction in the Ukrainian language. Methods. The nature of language manipulation as well as its techniques, tactics and methods used by the manipulator have been analyzed. The grammatical, lexico-semantic and lexico-grammatical transformations applied to convey language manipulation performed by different types of linguistic personalities in love discourse are described. Results. Conveying language manipulation means in translation is a complicated process that involves a number of difficulties, and therefore requires professional skills from a translator. Three main types of translation transformations are identified: lexical-semantic transformations; grammatical transformations; lexical-grammatical transformations, through which the system of language manipulation means in the texts of love discourse is rendered. Modulation and differentiation as the most frequently used lexical-semantic transformations help to render evasion, tone of playfulness, coquetry in characters’ utterances that have manipulative potential. As shown by the analysis of the research material, grammatical transformations (addition, omission, substitution) are applied to convey indifference, rudeness, neglect, and ridicule in utterances of characters and clearly render their manipulative power. All types of lexical-grammatical transformations (antonymic translation, total reorganization and compensation) have been applied with the aim of providing expressive, humorous and manipulative tone of utterances. Conclusions.
