DERIVATIVE APPROACH TO THE ANALYSIS OF LEGAL TEXTS

Abstract

Introduction. The paper focuses on the complex studying of the derivative potentialof textual categories, semantic features of lexical level components, their coherence in the facetof contemporary legal linguistics. It suggests different ways of defining the notion of syntacticderivation for realizing the processes of various structural units’ derivativeness. The paper alsostresses that derivative process of the legal text forming is investigated in the facet of derivatology,which studies derivation as the means of language units’formation from a word to a text, is oneof the fields of functional analysis of the language nowadays. Purpose. The paper aims atthe analysis of derivational approach to the studying of legal texts. The tasks are the following:to establish the influence of the level of derivation on the structure and semantic features ofspeechconstructions; to define the ways of applying the derivational approach to the study of the legaltexts. Methods. The main method of investigation is derivational one. It allowed to widenthe knowledge about legal text as lingual phenomenon, to describe its linguistic features, whichcharacterize it as a dynamic structure. Conclusion. Depending on their functions legal textsare distinguished by their structure, principles, rules and styles of their compiling.
