THE STATUS OF HALF-SYMMETRIC PRONOUNS CORRELATED SENTENCES
Introduction. Based on the structural symmetry criterion the paper focuses on thestatus of compound constructions which have half-symmetric pronouns in correlated clauses. In contemporary Ukrainian linguistics there are two dominant perspectives on the problem:1) the semantics of compound constructions, which influences the structure of half-symmetricpronouns correlated clauses; 2) type of connection between the correlate and the relate. Eventhis traditional approach does not have a single interpretation, in particular there are differencesin terminology and the formation of a clear criterion for defining certain subtypes. Purpose. The paper aims to clarify the understanding the concept of half-symmetrical pronouns correlatedsentences, singled out on semantic criterion. Results. The results of this paper specify the useof linguistic terms and clarify the theory of pronoun-compound sentencesstructural organization. In addition to the generally accepted principle of semantic identity, there is a sentence withcomplete and incomplete semantic opposition between the pronominal word and the relate word.In this paper the term “half-symmetric sentences” introduces. These structures has the transitionalstatus between symmetric and asymmetric sentences, because they demonstrates the correlationof general semantic (locality, temporality). The correlative block units have different typeof meaning in this sentences. Conclusion. According to this paper, it is appropriate to delimitthe broad and the narrow interpretations of the concept of “syntactic asymmetry”. It is necessaryto classify all pronoun-compound sentences into three groups: symmetric, asymmetric and halfsymmetric structures. Each of these types requires a separate complex study
