Scientists use it both for revealing the ethnocultural specificity ofthe image of the world of representatives of various ethnoses, and for a comprehensive analysisof the meaning of the word of a certain language. We used both perspectives of research in ourprevious scientific studies. In this article we present the results of directed associative experiments, that were held at the beginning of the XXI century in Ukraine. Purpose. The purpose ofthe study is to reveal the structure of the associative value by the example of the associative fieldsof the stimulus FRIEND in the Ukrainian language. Methods. The main methods of researchare descriptive, structural (component analysis), associative experiment (directed), “associativegestalt”. Results. The psycholinguistic analysis demonstrates the structure of associative fieldof the stimulus FRIEND, obtained as a result of conducting of the directed associative experimentsas for the selection of definitions and comparisons. The placement of zones and their filling showthe main association strategies that we consider as specific components leading in determiningof the associative meaning of the word, in the formation of images of the linguistic consciousnessof Ukrainian respondents. Conclusion The study of the meaning of the word on the materialof lexicographic sources and a number of associative experiments that were applied to a specificword-stimulus is justified and necessary for the comprehensive identification of semantics.","PeriodicalId":217176,"journal":{"name":"MESSENGER of Kyiv National Linguistic University. One of the tasks of modern linguistics is to build a dynamic modelof the human language through the analysis of functionally motivated linguistic units, which,in particular, include hypocoristic names – a non-unofficial (short) variants of a personalname, used mainly for communication purposes. The analysis of the formal and semanticstructure of hypocoristic names, studying their functional features in comparison with those ofthe official (full) names will make it possible to get closer to the understanding of the lingualstatus of the proper name. The purpose of the paper is to examine hypocoristic names inthe languages of the same and different structure in order to clarify the common features anddiscuss the obtained results to confirm or deny the hypothesis of their own place in onomasticsubsystem of language. Methods. Typological method is used in the paper. Results: hypocoristicnames are frequently used in English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Japanese, andPersian languages in three main models: monosyllabic, disyllabic and reduplicative. Thereare vivid commonalities among the languages under analysis which could be due to thecommunicative function of hypocoristics in vocatives. Vocative discourse is where hypocoristicswork their way to the language structure. A vivid example of the process is the Russiantruncated vocative which broadens the scope of its function from originally short names tofull names and positions outside vocative discourse. Hypocoristics whose zone of productionis vocative discourse are neutral to morphological-syntactic indices. However, the mindprocesses short forms of the name in accordance with the general processes that are at theheart of the linguistic organization and human communication. The main of such processes isiconism – the motivation of a linguistic form. The main way of handling hypocoristics is aniconic diagram – a systematic organization of signs, which are not necessarily similar to theirreferents, but whose interconnection reflects their relation to the referents. Conclusion. Thehypothesis was confirmed but further investigation is to be continued.","PeriodicalId":217176,"journal":{"name":"MESSENGER of Kyiv National Linguistic University. In linguocognitive perspective the paper highlights the ways of integrating the methods of studying the linguistic phenomena from philosophy of science and the philosophy of arts points of view. The author tries to rethink the relation between aesthetics and the sciences, to explore the underlying nature of aesthetics arising from sensate cognition to discover whether or not it—and how, if it does—coincides, correlates, or complements the underlying nature of scientific theories and methodologies. Purpose. The paper focuses not on aesthetic experience only, in its modern, reductive sense of taste, beauty, and pleasure in the arts, but on the role of sensate cognition underlying all human cognitive processing including scientific investigation and most manifested in artistic activity. Methods. The paper presents the beginnings of a theory that reconstructs aesthetics as the foundational basis for all human experience, knowledge, and creative activity. It suggests a more productive approach to explore the underlying sensory-motor-emotive processes of sensate cognition in their relation to conceptual awareness. The paper gives a total reversal of what we have come to accept as undeniable divisions between the categories that make up the various \"sciences\" and those that constitute the various \"humanistic\" disciplines, as well as those that create divisions within those categories. Results. Cognitive activities include all the creations of human beings from artefacts to systems of thought, including mathematics and the sciences, to cultural and social institutions. Like the leaves of a tree that develop from the tree’s branches and trunk, these activities arise from our ability to conceptualize, to formulate conscious ideas and images. Beneath the surface of the cognitive tree lie the pre-conceptual, subliminal roots of sensory, motor, and emotive experiences that feed our conceptual awareness. Just as the living tree survives by drawing sustenance through its roots, so do all our cognitive activities depend on sensate cognition. And just as the roots of the tree are nourished by the quality of the material components of the earth in which they are embedded, so do the qualities of aesthetic imagination and judgment enable the flourishing of the physical and spiritual values that give rise to the harmonious balance of the self as part of the natural world. Perceptual imagining, as involved in the interpretation of scientific results, also plays an important role in the sciences. The perceptual content provided by the images constrains and shapes the imagination of the relevant objects. The objects are imagined on the basis of how they are perceptually experienced, and the resulting interpretations are formulated taking into account the perceptual imagination in question. Conclusion. The health of nature is therefore not metaphorical. The theoretical positions of the correlation of the structure of linguisticunits and their semantic relations as an object of studying the structural and semantic directionof the modern Russian language are considered in the article. Purpose. Investigate particularfactors that affect the change in the meaning relations in simple and complex sentences, dependingon the lexical content associated with the speech goal of a speaker or a writer. Methods. Descriptive, analytical, comparative methods are used in the article. Results. Modern researchers producetestimony to statement that the lexis and syntax, representing different levels of the linguisticsystem, are closely related: vocabulary is defined as the semantics of syntactical units, as theirstructure. In the construction of the syntactic units, the choice of lexis is determined by the speaker'sneeds to represent this or that information about reality. Lexis invades actively the area ofthe syntactic meanings. The communicative aspect influences the capacity of the membersof sentence, on the semantic discrimination of the subject and the predicate, strengthens or weakensthe value of the nominative meanings. Emotional-evaluative elements include a stylistic aspectand affect the structure of the sentence, combining semantic and grammatical factors. The directionof the semantic syntax put forward the concept of proposition as a model called the sentenceof the “state of affairs.” The structure of the proposition is determined by the predicate, it indicates the participants of the “state of affairs” (actants), determines their quantity and roles. The studyof the semantic organization of the sentence and the factors that influence their changes is carriedout simultaneously from the side of lexicology and semantic syntax. The dominant is the propositionthat a sentence, like a word, is a nominative unit. The difference is only in the representationof the correlative operation performed by the subject. The factor of the transitivity of syntacticphenomena is parallel complementary functions. Conclusions. Understanding the communityof the words and sentences functions as nominative units combined the possibilities of lexicologyand syntax, which expanded the field of interpretation characteristics of structural schemes of thesentence.
