REPRESANTATION OF STRUCTURALAND SEMANTIC FEATURES OF ENGLISH LEGAL TERMS IN UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE (IN OFFICIAL INTERNATIONAL LEGAL TEXTS)

Abstract

Introduction. The article focuses on the structural and semantic features of the Englishlegal terms in the official texts of international legal texts and suggests the ways of finding theirUkrainian analogues. Purpose. The paper aims to outline the structural and semantic characteristicsof the English legal terms in the official international legal texts. Methods. The methodologyof the paper is based on analytical, comparative and typological, and descriptive analysis usedto identify and classify structural and semantic features of English legal terms and their translatinginto Ukrainian. Comparative and typology analysis enables to compare the structure and semanticsof legal terms in two languages. Results. The paper works out: 1) the methods of structuraland semantic analysis of English legal terms used in official international legal documents; and2) the ways of their interpreting and translating into Ukrainian. The paper stresses upon specialfeatures of English legal terms which should be taken into consideration in the process of findingtheir analogues in Ukrainian. It often depends on the context. The adequacy and equivalencyof such terms translation into another language often depends on the category of informativedeterminacy / indeterminacy of the source legal text. Conclusion. On the basis of functional,structural and semantic characteristics of English legal terms the paper suggests the instructionsof their interpretation and translation into Ukrainian.
