It explores the use of Church Slavonic смиренїє / смѣренїє «humility» and смирен(н)ыи / смѣренъ «humble» vis-à-vis покора «meekness» and покорныи «meek» of the «prosta mova» for the denotion of humility in the Peresopnytsia Gospel (1556–1561) and the Krekhiv Apostle (second half of the 16th century) as compared to the vocabulary use in the Ostroh Bible (1581), the Lviv Apostle (1574) and modern Ukrainian Bible translations. Bible translations of the early modern Ukraine, written in the Old Ukrainian «prosta mova», demonstrate two concurrent tendencies in the rendition of the «lexicon of humility»: following the Church Slavonic tradition (the Peresopnytsia Gospel) and employing Old Ukrainian words of «prosta mova» (the Krekhiv Apostle). While modern Bible translations tend to take into consideration the contextual meanings of the Greek words for humility and to render them with various lexical means of the Ukrainian language, this is not typical of the Church Slavonic biblical monuments of the 16th century, but is partially traceable in the Krekhiv Apostle. Obviously, the use of derivatives from смиренний and покірний in modern Ukrainian language is rooted in the religious monuments of the 16th and 17th centuries, written in «prosta mova», which signifies their considerable influence upon the formation of modern Ukrainian ethical lexicon. Modern Bible translations mostly render the positive meaning of ταπεινοφροσύνη / ταπείνωσις and ταπεινός with the words покора / покірливість «meekness» and покірний / покірливий «meek», replacing the words of Church Slavonic origin смирення «humility» and смиренний «humble». The same tendency can be observed in the Krekhiv Apostle and the 17th century Didactic Gospels, which consistently use покора and покорныи. Modern Bible translations usually render the negatively connotated words for humility (conveying humiliation, oppression, destitution, etc.) with the derivatives from принижувати «humiliate», понижувати «lower», зневажати «despise», впокорювати «submit», quite similarly to the Krekhiv Apostle and Didactic Gospels, which employ the verbs унижити «humiliate», понижати «lower»and упокорити / упокоритися «submit / be submitted» in this function.

The afterword to the Nobel Gospel was analyzed, and the historical figures named in it were identified (Prince Fedor Ivanovich Yaroslavich, Bishop Jonah). Information about them was collected based on historical sources and scientific literature. The ‘Ruthenian’ edition of the Church Slavonic language, manifestations of the second South Slavic influence in the text, is characterized. The monument’s history information, now represented in the Library of the Vrublevsky Academy of Sciences of Lithuania (Lithuania), was systematized. The Nobel Gospel, which has not been the subject of scientific study until now, was analyzed during an interdisciplinary study. The historical context of the monument’s creation based on the afterword is analyzed. Its temporal and spatial localization, the possible sphere of operation, ancient storage of the rarity, scribes (Chivs), and historians were established. Prince Fedor Ivanovich Yaroslavich carried out charitable activities. He founded and supported churches and monasteries in the Pinsk District. The bishops of Pinsk and Turov, Vasian, and later Jonah, mentioned in the afterword, appealed to the king and received a “salary” letter stating that it should be their will and approval for the construction of churches and monasteries. The analyzed manuscript from Polissia was proved to reveal the book traditions of the 16th century and the eccentricity of the centers of rewriting texts of religious writing. The main manifestations of the second South Slavic influence in the orthography of the manuscript are characterized. Different orthographic and phonetic features of the ‘Ruthenian’ edition of the Church Slavonic language have been analyzed. Since the 60s of the 19th century, the manuscript from Polissia was transported to the Vilnius Public Library. The Manuscript Department was founded here, and the first descriptions of the monument were compiled.

The effective arrangement of the news content boosts readers’ perception and willingness to deal with the information provided by the multinational news channels BBC and CNN. To properly analyze the message positioning, one has to consider the spacing methods, i.e. margins, padding, the width of the text, interlines intervals, text alignment (from left to right text-align – horizontal one, from top to bottom or vice versa text-align – vertical one, diagonal or free text-align), the necessary graphemes or lexemes span, text segmenting. The BBC news texts placement depends directly on the topics being covered. Within the scopes of HOME, NEWS, SPORT sections and all their subsections the news content is aligned in the left part of the web page, the “white space” includes the peculiar margin and interline interval. All of these help break the massive texts down into logical meaningful segments to alleviate the information perception, analysis and remembering. The WORKLIFE, TRAVEL, FUTURE, CULTURE section texts are center-aligned with equal margins and specific initial letter design and represent the popular science and entertainment content. The majority of the CNN news texts is located in the left web page segment and is horizontally aligned with the white space after a series of syntagmas. The CNN Style texts are center-aligned and the first three lines of each message are indented so as to place the initial letter of the first word encompassing those lines. To conclude, the BBC and CNN news texts spacing goes in line with pragmatic and stylistic character of the news content, graphic and design facilities make the texts readable, interface uncluttered and provide an overall aesthetically pleasing experience. All of these add additional value to the meaning potentials generated through the integration of both verbal and non-verbal modes.

The lexical units under analysis belong to the vocabulary of the standard language, but are also observed in different terminological systems, thus their meaning for the inter-branch terminology is evidently huge. The analysed thematic group of meronyms is a joint link between semantics of verb and noun (concrete and abstract). They combine the meaning of process, temporality and locativity with partitive meaning. The research highlights the special status of meronymic relations different from other types of semantic relations in the lexical system of language: hyper-hyponymic and possesiv.

The article is relevant and modern. It is an object of interest of many philologists, teachers of Turkic languages, engaged in the training of Crimean Tatar and Turkish pronunciations. The study of a foreign language is always associated with the study of pronunciation, phonetic originality. Knowledge of phonetic phenomena and patterns of their functioning is a prerequisite for a better ability to form and express their thoughts in a foreign language. After all, with the incorrect use of sounds, the meaning of the word can change and, accordingly, there may be problems with communication. A comparative study of the vowels of the Crimean Tatar and Turkish languages is directly related to the development of effective methods of teaching people pronunciation. This study makes it possible to take into account the typological differences between the two languages. The study is based on the material of the literary norms of the modern middle version of the Crimean Tatar language and the Istanbul version of the Turkish language. The objectives of the study are to compare the systems of vowel phonemes of the Crimean Tatar and Turkish languages, their differences. One of the most important tasks is to contribute to the construction of a more effective method of learning the phonetic norms of the studied Turkic languages by consistently and as completely as possible fully identifying typologically similar and specific phenomena in the sound system of the compared languages. The scientific novelty of the work is that it considers modern literary norms of both languages, as well as indicates the specifics of the pronunciation of individual sounds. The reasons for the appearance of long vowels are indicated. The results of the article have theoretical significance, as they make a certain contribution to the typological study of languages, to the theory of language and to the development of relevant problems of phonology. Regarding the practical significance, the results of the work can be used both in subjects for language study and in special courses.

Gonchar. In the focus of this research, diary entries are established as the projection and reflection of the linguistic personality of the writer. The process of keeping a diary is considered as the communicative value of text writing.\u0000\u0000Therefore, the entries reflect the results and characteristics of Gonchar’s communicative activity. The reflection of the word appears as a writer’s artistic work that absorbs the philosophy of his time,\u0000\u0000his aspiration and cultural experience. Moreover, the linguistic reading of the diary discourse reveals the axiсological perception of the reality, verbalized in the word. As noted by I. Sirko, in the Ukrainian linguistic culture only in the second half of the 20th century – at the beginning of the XXI century dia- ries became a form of personal expression.\u0000\u0000Due to the philological achievements, it is known that diary and diary activity form the discourse. If to quote the definition of discourse by N. Arutyunova, then discourse is a text immersed in life. Ac- cording to Y. Stepanov, the phenomenon of discourse is the proof of the thesis «Language is the home of the spirit» and, to some extent, the thesis «Language is the home of being». So keeping a diary is a kind of communicative activity.\u0000\u0000The concept of the diary accurately reflects the specifics of its keeping – a kind of activity that is implemented every day. Linguistic study of the diary’s discourse involves a variety of approaches, including 1) modeling of diary activity, 2) the selection of typical cases of diary writing and the main tendencies characterizing diary texts; 3) description and characterization of diary texts in the unity of language, psycholinguistic, cultural, extra-linguistic circumstances, which influenced the subject and led to creativity. In the diary discourse, we can trace the activities of the author in the role of\u0000\u0000«figure», the role of «chronicler», the role of «carrier of the psychological state», the role of «the one who writes». This is due to the wide possibilities of the diary. Naturally, in each case, these roles are individual. For example, O. Gonchar realizes himself in several different roles, which is reflected in the numerous entries. He includes all the information, such as drafts of letters, scenes of works, heard jokes or stories, interesting facts, personal or other observations, thoughts which the author consid- ered to be deserving for certain reasons to save.\u0000\u0000O. Gonchar is endowed with a degree of freedom in his communicative activity. He is free not only in the choice of lexical and syntactical means but also in the choice of topics (events) for a diary entry, as well as in measures of detail, describing a particular event.\u0000\u0000Thus, a diary is the prism of the vision of the writer’s world, the history of his experience and the formation of the author as a person. In addition, it is important to notice tha
