Fake news is understood as an umbrella term, including misinformation, disinformation and malinformation. False news can be found as inaccurate, unsupported, half true, misleading or false. The problem of COVID-19 is global and the consequences of COVID-19-related infordemic may have consequences that go far beyond public health. Van Dijk’s Sociocognitive discourse analysis framework is used for the Internet news which were proven as fakes by factchecking sites, such as VoxCheck, Full Fact, Health Feedback and FactCheck.org. Discourse production is viewed as a complex cognitive process. The article aims to describe structures of discourse in terms of explicit psychological theories of mental representations, which are mental models. These mental models, which are subjective representation of events, control the main topics and local coherence of fake news discourse. The macrostructure or the main topics that are being discusses and on which the whole story is based are “lab leak theory”, the origin of the virus, nature of the virus, whether people in power have good or ill intent, vaccination, wearing masks, false cures, emergency responses, reinfections. Local coherence is analyzed in terms of meaning relations between propositions. Fake news about COVID-19 are predominantly based on contrast/comparison and cause-and-effect relations. The results show that mental models are based on the intention of the author, the type(s) of the author, the global topic and relations between propositions of the discourse. Knowledge of mental models can discourage the proliferation of fake news. This may as well help to slow the spread of the disease.","PeriodicalId":443655,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic and Conceptual Views of the World","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115490588","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It allows to realise the two major requirements to the target text – equivalent regulatory effect of source and target texts and maximum possible semantic and structural similarity of source and target texts. A faithful translation should be made in keeping with the three principles determining the adequate measure of transformations in translation: the motivation principle, the minimalism principle and the boundedness principle. A particular research interest is taken in the degree of translation transformations in the science text in conformity with these principles. To produce a quality translation with (an) identical pragmatic effect, the translator should clearly define the measure of translation transformations – when certain translation modifications are necessary and admissible. It is important for translators to be knowledgeable about the functions of each determinant principle and avoid unmotivated transformations, reasonable but excessive modifications, and motivated transformations that go beyond the admissible translation limits. The translator should also avoid extremes – literal and free translations, which hamper the perception of the text. The adequate measure of translation transformations is in the middle between literal and loose translations. To take an appropriate translation solution, the translator of a science text should be trained in using translation techniques and bring the source text in conformity with the norms of the language of science. A specific admissible measure of transformations in translation is impossible to determine as it varies in different text genres and different contexts. The translator should be competent enough in the branch of knowledge the translation text belongs to. Our analysis of the Ukrainian translation of the history (historical) monograph “The Celts: A Chronological History” by Dáithí Ó hÓgáin, aims to establish the degree of semantic and structural divergences between the source and target texts and to evaluate the translation solutions that were used to achieve the pragmatically equivalent translation.","PeriodicalId":443655,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic and Conceptual Views of the World","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124251047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Коли у 80-і роки ХХ ст. увага лінгвістів спрямувалася на комплексне дослідження словотвору, проф. Сахарчук звернулася до цієї важливої теми. В своїх дослідженнях вона підкреслювала, що методологія лінгвістики не повинна розроблятися лише на основі глобального підходу до мови, а має розглядати окремі підсистеми мови та механізми їхньої взаємодії. Новою була вимога застосування системно-діяльнісного підходу до мови, зокрема, розгляд словотвору в аспекті його участі в комунікативній діяльності, з урахуванням специфіки процесів словотворення та результатів цих процесів у номінативних актах. While English has a strong tendency to use inanimate subject on a daily basis, Japanese language has a lot of restrictions for this type of construction. As these restrictions seem to appear both in subjects and predicates of the sentences, the two approaches – nominal and verbal – were elaborated in order to account for the phenomena. Nominal approach accounts for the nouns, that tend to appear in the subject or object position, while verbal approach tries to find out which verbs can be used in the sentences with an inanimate subject. This article outlines the nominal approach and explains two theories that were elaborated in Japanese studies. The first theory developed by T. Tsunoda adopts referential hierarchy of Silverstein and states that although personal pronouns and nouns that indicate animate objects have a stronger tendency to become a subject of the sentence, there is a hierarchy between the nouns that name inanimate objects. For example, the nouns that indicate natural forces are more likely to become the subject of the sentence than nouns that indicate abstract notions and territory names. The second theory developed by S. Saito adopts the empathy hierarchy (hierarchy of the positions) of S. Kuno in order to account for the extending acceptance of the sentences with inanimate subject that include auxiliary verb ‘kureru’. The theory states that ‘kureru’ in such types of sentences manages to balance empathy on the non-subject participant (which is an animated entity) rather than the subject, that results into an acceptance of the type of sentences. The article also suggests that there are some similarities in the way Ukrainian and Japanese speakers tend to translate English sentences that have an inanimate subject. The article also points out the necessity for Ukrainian studies to develop its own approach to the sentences with inanimate subject, because it seems that Ukrainian language has its own restrictions on such sentences.","PeriodicalId":443655,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic and Conceptual Views of the World","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122947643","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Marías y J. Cercas for the Sunday supplement of Spanish national quality paper «El País» and one of its main strategies which can be defined as negative focus or a negative frame for presenting their articles. The aim of our investigation was to confirm our hypothesis by analyzing a significant corpus of publications (since 2010 till now) that the negative markedness turns to be a distinctive sigh of this type of analytical writings mostly due to relevant position of its authors in the Spanish literature world and its huge experience as journalists. Being determined by the actual social totally extralinguistic conditions, the preliminary negative evaluation influences on the author election of all language levels means such as lexical, syntactical, first of all, and by combining them in order to increase the pragmatic value of the publication. The author´s idea is expressed by integrating all possible means to transmit the main strategy which intention is to attract the readers´ attention to that particular part of the Spanish reality, to make him/her get interested and involved in the information and, if possible, to influence on his/her attitude to it by the unique interpretation methods used by Marías y Cercas. The negative evaluativity of author column detected even at first glance on semantic level is able to transform into powerful pragmatic tool. The examined material has widely proved that negative evaluative perspective of columns reveals the author´s intention to touch the reader and reach the efficiency by appealing to his emotions and evaluating criteria.","PeriodicalId":443655,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic and Conceptual Views of the World","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126713787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Language learning begins with the acquaintance with its phonetic system. So properly presented phonetics makes the process of language understanding not only possible but more available during studies. While considered from this point, phonetics is described a constituent part of a language system. For this system to take in use easier, language materials aimed at foreigners have to describe phonetics with the help of audio records and visual schemes. Visualization of a language apparatus work along with voice records helps to de- velop typical Ukrainian pronunciation. The point is that quite a few of sources give the opportunity to\u0000\u0000understand the phonetics through these methods. The language learning sources mostly do not provide a foreigner with audio-visual explanations. If the materials contain physiological pictures of language organs’ positions and voice records, a learner becomes able to understand the difference between their native phonetic system and the foreign (Ukrainian) one. The author of the article proves that for completing representative schemes, findings from the experimental phonetics have to be included. So using audio-visual additions is made possible due to researches in this branch. Moreover, it is proven that incompletely presented sound system causes accent development. Argumentatively the necessity of forming new materials is described as well as a renovation of those that already exist. Conclusions are made on the basis of comparative analysis of available sources for language learning.","PeriodicalId":443655,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic and Conceptual Views of the World","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127016229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The material of the research showed that the mass media welcomed the introduction of a new rule on writing common names with ex-, as evidenced by a large number of innovations. Neologisms with the ex- component most often appear in the headlines of news items. Their number is constantly increasing. Obviously, the productivity of this type of word-formation comes from the need to save “newspaper space” in order to convey the content of the message as compactly and concisely as possible. The analysis of more than 100 units allowed us to conclude that many innovations do not correspond to the nature of the Ukrainian language, its melodiousness, the structure of phonemic chains, the rules of composition, accentuation, etc. The absence of a hyphen in the new words, which used to be a kind of marker between the prefixoid and the root, leads to the unrecognizability of a word, misreading and, consequently, unwanted homonymy (експрессекретар, експре- саташе). Due to the spelling of common names with ex- without a hyphen, the number of words with the accumulation of consonants and their uncharacteristic for the Ukrainian language combination increased. This makes them difficult to pronounce. From the point of view of the structure of the Ukrainian language, its melodiousness words like ексчленкиня, ексміськголова, екстопменеджер are unacceptable. All this gives grounds to conclude that the rule of writing common names with extogether needs to be revised. Moreover, there are exceptions to this rule, which envisage writing ex- with proper names and abbreviations with a hyphen. Returning to the old norm will uniformize the spelling of all words with ex- and reduce the number of exceptions in spelling.","PeriodicalId":443655,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic and Conceptual Views of the World","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132250937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The works are analyzed and the main views of domestic, Russian and American scientists on the essence and the concep of “Hybrid war” are highlighted. It was determined that the phenomenon of hybrid warfare was also traced in the history of domestic state formation at the beginning of the last century. To seize power in Ukraine, the Russian Bolsheviks used many tricks and political maneuvers that had a hybrid component. In particular, one of such methods was the formation of quasi-state formations, such as: Donetsk-Kryvyi Rih Soviet Republic (1918) and others. In addition, the methods used by the Bolsheviks to spread misinformation were analyzed, such as the distribution of free leaflets at the front, which carried a propaganda content. Special attention is paid to the hybrid aggression of the Russian Federation in the XXI century, in particular against Ukraine. The main views of Russian researchers on hybrid warfare are highlighted. They emphasize that the main components of a hybrid war are information warfare, as well as covert involvement of outside armed groups and organizations to solve the problems of interstate confrontation. Also, various definitions of “hybrid war” in terminological dictionaries were analyzed, such as: Dictionary of the Ukrainian language, Cambridge Dictionary, Collins Dictionary. Thanks to a comprehensive study of views on the concept of “hybrid war”, its basic definition was formed, which comprehensively characterizes both historical and contemporary aspects of this phenomenon.","PeriodicalId":443655,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic and Conceptual Views of the World","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129276994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, an attempt is made to take into account different approaches to structuring the concept, in particular, the linguistic and cultural concept. The following research methods are used in the work: etymological analysis, definition analysis, conceptual analysis. The structure of the English hyperconcept OCCULTISM contains three components: ALCHEMY, MAGIC, ASTROLOGY. The paper analyzes their motivational and conceptual features. We believe that motivational and notional features are primary or basic, other features are secondary and may vary in their number and methods of nomination. The definition analysis showed that the notional features of the concept ALCHEMY are “unscientific, search, transformation, eternal life, universal medicine, mysticism, secrecy, purity of thought, durability, versatility”. The motivational features of the concept ALCHEMY are determined by the etymology of the English lexical unit “alchemy” and are verbalized as follows: “occultism, search, unscientific”. The notional features of the concept MAGIC are “power, supernatural, extraordinary, use of means, influencing or predicting events, hidden, controlling, spiritual, superhuman”. The motivational features of the concept are determined by the etymology of the English lexical unit “magic” and are verbalized as follows: “to be able, have power”. Based on the definition analysis, we conclude that the definitions of these units contain the following significant components: (1) SUBJECT (PHENOMENON), (2) PROPERTY OF THE SUBJECT (PHENOMENON) – power to influence, control, (3) OBJECT – people, events, (4) ATTRIBUTE – spiritual, supernatural, hidden. The notional and motivational features of the concept ASTROLOGY are “foretelling, stars, influence”. The perspective of this study is the analysis of verbalization of the components of the hyperconcept OCCULTISM in English discourse and the identification of their figurative and associative features.","PeriodicalId":443655,"journal":{"name":"Linguistic and Conceptual Views of the World","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130986430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
