It is particularly used in the teaching of distant students for whom it is an ideal complement of their contact classes, which are fewer than in the present form of instruction. Therefore, these students welcome an opportunity to have their study materials online. In fact, online learning is becoming increasingly common nowadays. The purpose of this article is to firstly describe forms of instruction that are run at the Faculty of Informatics and Management (FIM) of the University of Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic. Secondly, the author presents and discusses data from an empirical questionnaire survey which was performed among students of FIM in order to demonstrate their preferences for the selected form of instruction. Thirdly, students' preferences are analyzed and matched to the chosen form of instruction. Finally, on the basis of the results, the author proposes relevant teaching approaches and strategies to enhance students' learning with the help of ICT.","PeriodicalId":432693,"journal":{"name":"2014 Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124345207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Exploiting its full potential opens the doors to efficient transfer of knowledge, raises awareness of the needs and interests of institutions, creates opportunities for cooperation and promotes students employability in a global market. Despite the significant added value to all stakeholders of Project/Internships and mobility in general, it remains difficult for students to become aware of Project/Internship offers beyond the network of contacts of their home institution. On the other hand, providers - institutions offering Project/Internship - also have a limited access to young talents being, in general, also limited to their own network of contacts. Assuring a European dimension to an effective and efficient platform, supported by a cluster of institutions from the worlds of work and education, will allow students and trainees to improve their Project/Internship experience, their mobility and employability and, on the other hand, will grant access to a broad recruitment base to providers and promote cooperation between the world of work and the world of education impacting economy and society in general. In this paper we present the concept supporting the Praxis European Centre for Project/Internship Excellence, its implementation and preliminary results from the beta test period that ran between October 2013 and May 2014.","PeriodicalId":432693,"journal":{"name":"2014 Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116845731","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

EAEEIE members participated in several EU projects (i.e. ELLEIEC, THEIERE) with recognized contribution to EIE education process. Its new Strategic Alignment of Electrical and Information Engineering in European Higher Education Institutions (SALEIE) EU supported project aims to provide higher education models in the EIE disciplines that can respond to the key global technical challenges. This paper deals with the last results within the SALEIE project work package WP3 (Global Challenges). After defining the global challenges that the EIE graduates may face, a survey has been conducted to identify existing models in EIE higher education and their degree of response to key global technical challenges.","PeriodicalId":432693,"journal":{"name":"2014 Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121621646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a general tendency, which has been observed in all higher educational institutions in Denmark, like vocational schools, colleges and universities. The situation seems to be the same in many other European countries, however there are different ways of handling student support across Europe. For years, Denmark did not have common rules for student support at higher educational institutions. This changed with a governmental legislation and administration law called Special Educational Support - in Danish: Special Paedagogisk Stoette (SPS). The law was introduced in order to equalize the biggest differences on this area. After the introduction of the new law, there are still some differences in the way support is provided across the institutions but these are differences in some specific aspects of the support. This paper presents in general the Danish way to support students with disabilities at higher educational institutions and describes some variations across the different institutions. Furthermore, the paper describes in detail how support is being conducted and established at the Technical University of Denmark and illustrates some of the related challenges. Finally, we share some observations and considerations on group assignments and describe five new DTU initiatives concerning students with special needs.","PeriodicalId":432693,"journal":{"name":"2014 Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128116116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It enables the identification of the right content that the students must become proficient in. This paper is based on the idea that education must impart both `knowledge' as also competence to deliver, in the work that he applies his learning on. What they must be able to do after the Education (outcomes) and the pedagogies used to impart education - all these are key inputs to the design of curricula. We find this reference to the idea of competence not reflected in literature on curricula design. This is important since employers tacitly look for is competence that derives out of knowledge. Therefore, the effectiveness of curricula derived on this basis and deployed through the defined pedagogy will be visible as good employability. Curricula design is therefore driven by these four parameters - knowledge, competence pedagogy and outcomes. This paper examines the design of curricula with employability and Competence as the key parameters. Literature has a lot of work on curricula design, most of these base the curricula on imparting related knowledge with little focus on building ability to do or Competence. This is potentially a reason for poor effectiveness and employability. Research done by the authors and the Pilot results achieved will be used to validate.","PeriodicalId":432693,"journal":{"name":"2014 Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127858778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If Higher Education (HE), as the main provider of competent graduates, is to enable employers to be able to respond to the key global challenges of the next decade, is a pure focus on technicalities sufficient? It is contended that the answer is no, graduates need to have competence in aspects of management they will face in the early stages of employment. This attitude is firmly adopted in the department of Electronics at the University of York where management is integrated into almost all in its undergraduate and some of its postgraduate programme portfolio. The paper starts with a discussion of the justification for management teaching as a legitimate subject in the Electrical and Information Education field. This is followed by a literature review that considers the skills and behaviours managers need, appropriate pedagogies to develop these and assessment methods suitable to warrant them. A case study is then described of the Electronic Engineering programmes at the University of York including, a dedicated taught Masters in Engineering Management. In the taught MSc in Engineering Management there is a consistent approach to the assessment of generic skills, a strong emphasis on curiosity-based learning and a structured individual learning log for every student. Statistics on student numbers and feedback on the programme from different student groups and the programme's external examiner are given. The overall quality assurance measures taken for the programme are also briefly discussed. The paper proposes a generic programme modular structure that provides space for technical content but also for management content and shows how managerial behaviours can be developed as an integral part of the programme. It also describes the approach taken to assessment and discusses the issues these bring, in particular scalability.","PeriodicalId":432693,"journal":{"name":"2014 Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127912636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many trials to teach and educate some theoretical and practical understanding of network and communication. In fact, however, network and communication, particularly a viewpoint of Internet, have a very huge scope and include a lot of themes to understand in a relatively short period. So we have developed a limited scope and self-learning oriented facility of application program for e-Learning tool for network/communication study. Our key topics are as follows: Web-based e-Learning tool, Focusing of IP(Internet Protocol), Easy-drawing network topology, Animation of Packet transmission, Illustration of routing mechanism, and so on. We have applied our e-Learning tool into real classroom lectures and had some questionnaires for technical course and beginning course after trial questionnaire for laboratory members. It is confirmed that our e-Learning tool has been significant for learning network/communication based on the above questionnaire.","PeriodicalId":432693,"journal":{"name":"2014 Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132496593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lecturing is still done, but recorded and allows the student to study the theory and \"vodcasts\" (video recordings of lectures) at home prior to the scheduled time in the classroom. The time in the class together with the lecturer is thus used to do what previously was called \"homework\"; work with assignments tied to the theory. This should provide opportunities for introducing reflection as a part of the classroom exercises. The goal is to prepare the students to become reflective practitioners[2-4]. So how can reflective practice be introduced in the lecture hours? It is suggested having the students write reflective journals[5-7]. In addition to academic writing which is impersonal, and in which they can argue and justify, we would like the students to be personal about their own learning process and thus write reflective journals. These journals should be mandatory, and could be a part of either weekJy or monthly assignments. One page assignments should describe what has been learned and what relevance this is to them. Also as the semester progresses, one part of these assignments should be retrospective and the students should reflect back on previous lectures. These assignments will support the process of turning the students into reflective practitioners.","PeriodicalId":432693,"journal":{"name":"2014 Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134308836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Virtual Labs are the future of education. Simulations, in which environmental measurements and data analysis can be simulated, are being created to combine real-world environments with information supplied by devices. Virtual Labs (VL) designed for educational purposes in Electrical Engineering provide tasks or problems within a virtual environment or context. Users can explore the environment and examine digital objects as they are designed to support inquiry-based learning and conceptual understanding. Online virtual labs simulate learning environments and are designed to be highly attractive. They can complement the traditional formal learning programs, providing the opportunity for an interaction across a range of learning experiences in 3D. Online learning such as virtual classrooms will become the major part of training education in the future. Virtual lab applications are an engaging and agreeable learning system. Educational virtual labs should not merely focus on the virtual environment; they are useful to help students learn to think creatively and understand the complexities of solving meaningful problems, but the support from the teacher is also important. This study presents a virtual scenario of an instrumentation and measurements laboratory. Students work with representations of electrical circuits focused on learning electrical concepts and circuit analysis, also studying and developing action procedures. The goal is to help them learn to think like engineers. While they are learning about circuit theory, they are also learning to apply the many skills of an engineer such as organizing information for writing technical reports. This work was developed to demonstrate how a desktop Virtual Reality (VR) prototype, \"Virtual Electric Manual\"VEMA, can be applied to an engineering unit and used to enhance security and resourcefulness in using electrical equipment. Several interactive scenes were developed to illustrate the idea using a measurements and instrumentation laboratory as virtual environment.","PeriodicalId":432693,"journal":{"name":"2014 Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115801373","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
