Some recipes are used once, and some are thrown in the trash. The ones that are in focus are those that reap the largest benefits to the stakeholders. In practice, leadership is a set of roles that inspire employees and become role models for them. A leader’s personality must be also continuously discerned. This requires outside evaluation and suggestions. In this article, we explore leadership through a more detailed lens to define the roles of leaders for the future.","PeriodicalId":39735,"journal":{"name":"Business Information Review","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139270861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article delves into the potential applications of the metaverse within libraries. To explore this subject, the researchers conducted a systematic literature review, collecting secondary data that aligns with the study’s objectives. The findings emphasize the significance of developing metaliteracy among librarians and library users in the context of the metaverse. Metaliteracy encompasses a diverse set of skills that are essential for thriving in the digital age. Nevertheless, it also presents challenges, such as rapid technological advancements and disparities in accessibility. In response to these challenges, libraries and librarians must adapt by harnessing the power of metaliteracy to unlock the metaverse's potential fully. The article proposes that libraries should provide ongoing training and support for digital librarians and library users to ensure the relevance of their metaliteracy skills. Furthermore, libraries should actively foster collaborative partnerships with entities within the metaverse, including virtual museums and galleries. This collaborative approach enriches the pool of information and resources available to library users, ultimately enhancing their overall experience.","PeriodicalId":39735,"journal":{"name":"Business Information Review","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135616549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lean principles have the potential of improving the process in the operation of organisations. The application of lean principles in many organisations, including academic libraries, seems to be limited. Although there is much scholarly communication on the successful implementation of lean principles, no research could be found on the implementation of lean principles in the processes and workflows of creating access to e-resources in academic libraries. An exploratory qualitative case study design within an interpretive paradigm informed this study. A purposive sample of 12 participants was interviewed and the data were analysed, using the reflexive thematic analysis supported by ATLAS.ti 22. The participants were not familiar with lean principles. However, they could articulate their responsibilities of the processes and workflows in creating and managing access to e-resources in their workspaces. The empirical data from the lean waste exercises affirmed that should lean principles be implemented in the processes, and workflows to streamline access to e-resources at the academic library it will enhance the delivery of an excellent customer service. The findings of this study can inform policymakers and librarians on how the implementation of lean principles to the processes and workflows can enhance and streamline access to e-resources.","PeriodicalId":39735,"journal":{"name":"Business Information Review","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48668903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper contest on who best fits the helms of affairs of libraries in the 21st century between managers and leaders. It explains that managers are always designed around current realities by serving as instruments of planning, controlling and measuring, while leaders are adaptive, flexible, responsive and adopt evolutionary approaches to drive changes. Some leadership patterns, such as purposeful leadership, visionary, transformational, transactional, autocratic, distributed, laissez-faire and servant are suggested as for librarians to adopt to position libraries for reckoning. It concludes that library managers need to elevate their games to become leaders because libraries will be limited and stagnated if management is prioritized over leadership. One of the recommendations of this paper is that library schools and other library-related institutions should be teaching leadership training to students.","PeriodicalId":39735,"journal":{"name":"Business Information Review","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44241780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As we have explored in Business Information Review over recent years, new technologies promise to transform existing workplace routines, encroaching on professional roles just as it has already encroached on routine occupations (Kirkwood, 2018; Richardson, 2020; Tredinnick, 2017). Artificial Intelligence (AI) poses new problems in the evaluation of information and news, and in understanding the role of disinformation in social discourse (Tredinnick and Laybats, 2023). Artifical Intelligence facilitates new forms of cybercrime (Tredinnick and Laybats, 2023) and poses new ethical dilemmas about the use of technology (Carter, 2018; 2020). But while we have tended to focus on the ways in which technology may transform the contexts within which we live and work, generative artificial intelligence has also been silently rewiring how we conceptualise the human voice, agency, and creativity. This more subtle challenge is in many ways of greater profundity. Creativity has been widely understood as a distinctly human characteristic (Carruthers, 2012); other species can be said to engage in creative behaviour but none of this behaviour approaches the complexity and productivity of human creativity (Gabora and Kaufman, 2010). Yet as we move into an era where creative acts fall ever more comfortably within the province of generative AI, the ways in which we think about creativity and its relationship to the human mind is bound to shift. It is a truism that emergent technologies are generally met with a mixture of enthusiasm about their transformative potential, and apprehension about their negative social effects. The expansion of printing and literacy in the 18th century and steam press of the 19th were met by widespread misgivings about the impact of popular literature on the morals and behaviour of a newly literate mass public. Brantlinger for example has written that for many lateVictorian intellectuals:","PeriodicalId":39735,"journal":{"name":"Business Information Review","volume":"40 1","pages":"98 - 102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43657109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
