Wind has been shown to be an important factor that must be considered when investigating HDVs rollover. In order to address these concerns, this research built an aerodynamic and vehicle dynamic model. In addition, the vehicle dynamic model, wind model and road model were simulated by TruckSim. The results of the analysis showed that wind speed had an influence on the rollover stability experienced by a bus. The simulation results were based on both wind speed and vehicle speed. It has been shown that as wind speed increased, the roll angle and yaw angle experienced by the bus increased, and the peak roll angle showed increases as wind direction increased. The contribution of this paper could help in implementing design standards for highways or wind barriers, and in the design of vehicles themselves.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130520918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Measurement of treatment effectiveness is a complex task that requires historical records of treatments with observations of before and after performance trends. Lack of data is often an obstacle that impedes development and incorporation of surface maintenance treatments into pavement management. This paper analyzes the effect of surface treatments on asphalt paved arterial roads for several control sections of New Brunswick. The method uses a Transition Probability Matrix to capture main effects by mapping mean trends of surface improvement and pavement structure decay. It was found that surface treatments have an immediate effect reducing the rate of loss of structural capacity. Pavements with international roughness index (IRI) smaller than 1.4 m/km did not seem to benefit from surface treatments. Those with IRI higher than 1.66 m/km gained from 6 to 8 years of additional life. Reset value for surface treatments fall between 1.18 and 1.29 m/km. This paper aims to serve to practitioners seeking to capture and incorporate effectiveness of surface treatments (i.e., crack-sealing) into Pavement Management.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130795546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, an integrated chemical supply chain risk management (CSCRM) framework is proposed that combines scientific review and system dynamics (SD) modelling method to investigate the various CSC risks. Whereby, a hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk mitigation are carried out as sequential steps to manage the actual and potential risks in CSC. The proposed approach uses a SD model to investigate the causal interdependencies between the CSC performance and risk factors. Running the built SD model in various risk scenarios, the effects of risks are addressed taken into consideration the causal relationships and feedback effects. Furthermore, the formalization of such SD model can be modified both in design and operation phases provides a faithful and transparent decision support tool to investigate the outcomes of the substantial risks mitigation methods, so as to make the optimal decisions in CSCRM.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132154856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the dry season of waterway, some ships exceed the maximum draft and take a risk to pass through the shallow channel, which may easily lead to the ship grounding. Aiming at this problem, relative research situation at home and abroad and the present underwater measurement technologies are analyzed, and a design of dynamic measurement system of inland ship draft based on multi-beam Sonar system is proposed. Based on the data obtained from the multi-beam Sonar positioned under water, the real-time image and value of ship draft can be shown in software interface. From the aspect of hardware structure and software algorithm, its measurement principle and configuration scheme are presented. And cost-effectiveness analysis was carried out on the traveling choice of bus, with the benefit cost ratio instead of the benefit function in traditional logit model. Taking Beijing for case study, the paper calculates Beijing's current situation both with the unmodified and modified logit model, with the probability of residents choosing bus travel increasing from 31.52% to 41.95%. It shows that modified logit model is more accurately described the actual residents travel choice, other than that, to improve the benefit cost ratio of traveling by bus through subsidies. The finding can be used to increase the probability of residents choosing bus travel by using the way of fiance subsidies, and finally to ease the city's public transportation problem.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114509096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are numerous factors that affect access safety such as road environment, land use, network accessibility, access density, access lane channelization, sight distance etc. This article presented an intergrated model to fully evaluate access safety from macro-, meso-and micro-levels. The resarch methodology had two steps. The first step: latent clustering analysis method was used to tease out key factors from numerous factors that affect access safety. The second step: the weight of key factors was obtained by structural equation modeling (SEM) that establish the relationship between highway access related crash date variables and key factors of access safety. Crash data provided by highway bureau of Jiangsu province, China was utilized for analysis. In total 3,483 access related crashes at national highway numbered G205 (occurring between 2008 and 2011) were considered in the SEM models. The proposed access safety evaluation model was then compared with the existing model by analyzing their correlation with crash rate on another national highway numbered G204 in Jiangsu province, China. The comparison result demonstrated that highway access related crash rate was more correlated with the proposed access safety evaluation model than that in the existing model. The proposed access safety evaluation model is promising in the usage of access design, renovation and management by highway administration and transportation consulting agencies.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114782051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence people naturally think that the simulation is a good method to mimic behaviors of the vessels. This paper puts forward simulation models for simulating vessel traffic in the inland multi-bridge waterway. Main contents of this paper are as follows: probability distribution models of vessel traffic flow are obtained through the analysis of historical data of vessel traffic flow in the bridge area waterway; vessel generation model and route model is setup using the Monte Carlo method; the navigation behavior simulation model is present using the Multi-Agent method and the vessel agents are with the perception, interaction and reasoning ability, obey the traffic rules in different legs, and can finish the overtaking, following and obstacle avoidance behavior during the voyage. This research can quantitatively or visually analyzes behavior characteristics of the vessel, and offer means and methods for the evaluation of channel transit capacity, navigation risk, and organization and management ability.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114711626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A series of fire tests were conducted in a test chamber to study the fire behavior of lithium-ion batteries and judge the effective extinguishing agent. Lithium iron phosphate power batteries for ships were selected as the test specimen, and ignition was achieved by using an external fire. Firstly, in burning test series, the characteristics of fire growth and flame spread under a free-burn fire condition were observed. And then in fire suppression test series, the effects of three selected extinguishing agents were compared. The test results indicated that the battery fire exhibited a rapid increase when the electrolyte became involved in it, large amount of white smoke released in the process of battery thermal runaway until all the reactants had been consumed, and heptafluoropropane was verified to be most effective for suppressing fires and thermal runaway reactions. Finally, several fire safety measures for the lithium battery room were put forward, which were available for the ship design, construction and safety technical standard establishment.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126633867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
