Compared to a rigid vehicle, an articulated vehicle such as a tractor-semitrailer is a more complicated dynamic system with coupling effect between the tractor and the semitrailer. Mismatch of system parameters, incorrect design or improper operation may lead to a tractor-semitrailer into instable situations such as jack-knifing, tail-snaking, rollover and sharp-turning. The instability may easily lead to terrible vehicle accidents. In order to analyze the handling stability of a tractor-semitrailer, a dynamic model is established. Based on single lane-change test, the influence of main factors on safety property is analyzed. Research results show that it could improve the handling stability of tractor-semitrailer by reducing the mass of semitrailer, vehicle speed and the distance between tractor centroid and front axle, and by increasing fifth wheel lead and damping coefficient of fifth wheel.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132944553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering its complexity, component hardware failures are no longer the only reason for flight testing accidents, and a comprehensive approach is needed for hazard analysis. Systems-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) is a novel technique based on systems theory rather than traditional reliability theories. It addresses safety of complex systems as a control problem rather than a failure problem. In this paper, we adopt STPA on a subscale Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system take-off hazard analysis and the potential feasibility of STPA for complex UAV system is demonstrated. Unsafe control actions during take-off and their relevant control flaws are identified and safety constrains at different levels are specified. In addition to component failures, we discover that component interactions and flawed human decision making might also lead to violation of safety constrains by using STPA.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132622696","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model fully considers the channel dimensions, natural environment and ship maneuverability that impact on the ship safe speed. Finally a case study is given by combining with the specific channel and taking the bulk carrier as the research object. Therefore the ship safe speed varying with each influence factor is analyzed, and the safe speed's range of vessels passing access channel of port is determined. The primary function of a ship shafting system is to carry out energy transfer from marine engine to propeller, transmit axial thrust produced by the rotation of propeller to the hull, and drive the ship ahead. Vibrational power flow combines the effects of force and velocity amplitudes as well as the irrelative phase angle in a single quantity, and thus can better reflect the transmission of vibration energy between various sub-systems of an integrated structure. In this paper, the nonlinear and linear simplified physical model of shaft system is established. The control equations of hull-bearing-oil film-shafting systems are derived. Power flow transfer characteristics of the coupling model are analyzed. Condition monitoring theory of large ship propulsion shafting energy flow distribution is proposed to provide methods and technical supports for optimal design, installation, performance monitoring and maintenance of large ship propulsion shafting, which can also be provided as a reasonable basis for extending the service life of the ship.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131156478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to provide an effective detection of angry driving behavior, it is necessary to provide a method for discriminating angry driving from normal. Thirty professional drivers were recruited for conducting on-road experiments in Wuhan, China. The drivers were required to finish the experiment within 110 minutes and their anger was induced by various stimulating events, e.g., jaywalking and weaving/cut-into of other vehicles. The electroencephalography (EEG) and blood volume pulse (BVP) signals of drivers were collected in the normal and angry states from the field experiments. Statistical analysis shows that the sample entropy of EEG and BVP signals was viable to be used as the index for identifying angry driving. Based on the obtained EEG and BVP sample entropy, a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was introduced to determine the discriminating threshold of driving anger. The results indicate that, when the EEG sample entropy is between (0.2717, 0.6867) and the BVP sample entropy is between (0.4816, 0.7056), the driver is in the transitional period, which means that the driver can become angry easily when facing the stimulating events. When the EEG sample entropy is smaller than 0.5817 and the BVP sample entropy is bigger than 0.6037, the driver is likely to be in an angry state, with an average accuracy of 80.41%. Therefore, it appears reasonable to use the EEG sample entropy of 0.5817 and the BVP sample entropy of 0.6037 as the threshold for identify driving anger. It is believed that the study results can provide a theoretical foundation for developing EEG and BVP sample entropy-based driving anger recognition and warning devices.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130770822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The environmental factors such as solar irradiation, temperature, humidity and dust can directly affect the power output characteristics of solar cells that applied in the different area. Compared with the terrestrial environment, the marine environment is more severe, and the power output characteristics of solar cell in this environment have not been studied with all environmental factors considered. This study aims to establish an appropriate approach on this issue from three aspects, including classical equation, environmental factors and theoretical model. Firstly, the classical equation of I-V characteristics of solar cell is introduced and the limitation of its computational boundary condition is expressed by taking the real environment into consideration. Then, the environmental factors analysis is mainly focused on the difference between terrestrial environment and marine environment, especially the effect factors that can change I-V characteristic of solar cell. Thirdly, two theoretical models (Energy Conservation Model and Parameter Correlation Model) are respectively established to represent the interrelationship between I-V equation and five feature parameters, such as humidity, wind velocity, liquid immersion, particulate matters and ship movement. In the energy conservation model, a control surface is introduced to explain the heat convection, heat conduction and heat radiation process within a typical solar cell module. Based on the universality of cause-effect connection, a decoupling function is introduced in the parameter correlation model for representing the relationship between multiply environmental factors and cell temperature during the photovoltaic conversion process. These two models can be definitely used to study the efficiency and reliability problem of solar cell that applied in other severe environments.","PeriodicalId":389628,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122717374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
