Palahniuk’s novel «Fight Club», the article examines the nihilistic predestination of the antihero’s split personality, taking into account F. Nietzsche’s conception. The aim of the study is to prove that the anonymous narrator and the character of Tyler Durden’s images, symbolizing two fragments of the antihero’s personality, manifest the passive and active nihilistic position, respectively. The research is carried out in the format of the comparative approach, which is aimed at identifying the features of Ch. Palahniuk’s creative reception of Nietzsche’s nihilistic ideas, parallels in their metaphysical worlds. The study showed that in order to highlight the process of disintegration of postmodern reality, Ch. Palahniuk uses the main provisions of Nietzsche’s philosophy of nihilism. The novel is interpreted in terms of F. Nietzsche’s philosophy, since it systematically reveals all aspects of nihilism. The characters’ images are based on the theory of religious, radical and complete nihilism. The concept of nihilism is explicated at the personal, psychological and sociological level of the narrative. Personal and psychological levels are combined in order to create images of religious, radical (active and passive) and complete nihilists. The narrator is a religious nihilist, and as the narrative unfolds, his passive nihilistic position increases. Tyler Durden, the antipode of the narrator’s split personality, turns out to be a complete nihilist. It is concluded that the combination of both fragments of the antihero’s personality forms the image of a radical nihilist who does not reach the stage of complete denial of higher values. The society reproduced in the text of the novel, based on the Christian-Platonic cultural tradition, suffers from religious nihilism. The narrative explicates Nietzsche’s principle of deconstruction in the direction of reconstruction. F. Nietzsche’s views of the complete nihilism as a project of superman are being realized. {"title":"Hermeneutics of the Avant-Garde Text: Experiment with Genre Exposition in I.M. Zdanevich’s “Admiration”","authors":"E. S. Shevchenko, V.S. Simakova","doi":"10.29025/2079-6021-2022-4-217-227","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.29025/2079-6021-2022-4-217-227","url":null,"abstract":"The article is devoted to the actual problem of interpreting the avant-garde text in the literature of the Russian diaspora, as well as the search for relevant methodological approaches and techniques for its analysis. The texts of one of the most radical representatives of the Russian avant-garde of the first wave of emigration, I.M. Zdanevich (Ilyazd). The purpose of the work is to study the features of poetics and the construction of the novel “Admiration” by I.M. Zdanevich as an experimental text, as well as revealing its relationship with the literature of the era under consideration. The study uses comparative historical and typological methods, motivational analysis and discourse analysis, as well as deconstruction strategies that reveal the internal inconsistency of the avant-garde text and the meanings hidden in it. We have established that “Admiration” is the embodiment of the principles of “all-ness” – an artistic criterion developed by Ilyazd, which is characterized by the leveling of the concept of “original”, the absence of frames and the optionality of such creative categories as inspiration and talent. In this regard, the authors of the article propose an innovative approach to the avant-garde text, which consists in the widest possible range of its interpretations in the spirit of “all-ness”: from a traditional novel with its own original plot and characters to a philosophical novel, a novel-myth and a novel about an artist and the problem of creativity (metanovel). We came to the conclusion that “Admiration” by I.M. Zdanevich is a novel in which the writer uses the experiment as a set of aesthetic principles and artistic techniques that allow him to realize his own original concept of new art. Using the limitless possibilities of the novel genre and combining in the novel as a whole the features of its various modifications – adventure, philosophical, sentimental, symbolist, futuristic novels, myth-novel, poetological novel, I.M. Zdanevich was able to conduct an experiment on the destruction of genre boundaries. We also found that “Admiration” by I.M. The effect of playing with words, as a special form of linguistic creativity, creates a sense of intellectual obstacle, the overcoming of which gives great pleasure. Language play is not only an opportunity to realize linguistic meanings, but also a form of comprehension and cognition of the world. The study of the linguistic and cognitive mechanism, modeling reality, is promising in terms of the study of linguistic means, determining communicative situations. The aim of the article is to identify and comprehensively analyze the linguistic means involved in modeling real and imagined reality. The material of the research is examples of wordplay of L. Carroll's work fragment. Basic methods of research are analysis, synthesis, method of linguistic description. The methods of observation, contextual and stylistic analysis revealed the types of language play that give a special expressiveness, comic effect, created consciously and paradoxically. Using the system-descriptive method, the method of lexico-semantic analysis, the author identified linguistic means of reality modeling: verbs of orientation in space, verbs of cognition, intellectual activity, modal verbs expressing emotional state; comparative constructions, idioms, containing basic axiomatics of language consciousness, leading to ambiguity with simultaneous realization of literal and figurative meanings. Semantic analysis of phrasal verbs with post-verbs showed the results of their meanings reinterpretation in the context of communicative situations. Within the framework of polysemy a choice of meanings associated with the parameters of a given situation is provided. A special role is played by metaphors, in which the play of words is enclosed. They create new meanings from fragments of subjective experience. The focus is made on three royal documents, namely the capitulary of Charlemagne “Letter on Promotion of Literary Culture” (“Epistola de litteris colendis”, 787), the ordinance of Villers-Cotterêts (“Ordonnance de Villers-Cotterêts”, 1539), issued by Francis I, king of France, and letters patent of Louis XIV, regulating the activities of publishing houses (“Lettres patentes et arrêt du conseil d’État du Roi portant règlement pour la librairie”, 1702). The study aims to reveal formal and content-related features of regulatory documents of the historic period under consideration. Another purpose is to identify the degree of their variability and similarity. The main methods employed in the research were textual and interpretative types of analysis. The fact that the documents compiled on behalf of French monarchs made the focus of our research defines its novelty. The findings showed that this documentation evidences the dawn and further shaping of the French national language, cultural and educational policy. The authors show that these institutional genres were designed to strengthen the royal power in France during the period between the 8th and 18th centuries. The purpose of this study is to establish the role of color nominations in the poet’s work. To achieve the stated purpose, the following tasks were required: identification of the main trends in using color nominations in the texts of E. Pound’s poems, disclosure of primary color symbols, observation of the process of increasing connotative meanings of various shades and their analysis, determination of the functions performed by color nominations in landscape descriptions, establishing links between the color nominations appearing in the texts and the personality of the poet, the peculiarities of his creation method. As the research material, landscape descriptions in the poems of E. Pound were selected and analyzed. To fulfill the tasks set, such methods as structural, comparative and typological, as well as linguistic and etymological analysis of color nominations were used. As the result of the study, it was possible to establish that the color nominations perform in the poems of E. Poe’s poem «The Raven». The relevance of the study is determined by the anthropocentric perspective of modern linguistics, which focuses on the problem of the implementation of «a person within a language». Being one of the most relevant objects for research, literary discourse is regarded in terms of identifying the specifics of the idiolect and idiostyle of a creative linguistic personality. In this respect, the author’s modality, based on the implementation of modal and evaluative meanings in the text, is verbalized by means of semantic dominants of the author’s individual worldview. The article is aimed at studying multi-level linguistic means of representing the category of author’s modality in the poetic discourse of a narrative poem. A complex set of methods has been applied in the course of the study, including those of linguapoetic, component, stylistic analyses as well as certain elements of the structural and semantic, communicative and pragmatic, and interpretative approaches. It has been found that the specific features of E.A. Poe’s idiostyle are manifested within the framework of the author’s modality, while the modal dominants of the author’s idiolect can be spotted based on the analysis of the author’s choice of modal means. The study has also revealed that textual (author’s) modality is implemented on all the levels of poetic text organization. Alliteration and assonance, the internal rhyme and the rhymes at the end of the lines being the phonetic means of textual modality; lexical means of verbalizing the author’s modality are represented by the frequently used emotionally colored verbs, adjectives and adverbs (including those with negative connotations), as well as verbs with voluntative semantics, alongside with a very limited use of explicit grammatical means (e.g., the imperative). Syntactic means of the author’s modality are characterized by the use of a variety of syntactic repetitions. The author’s subjective worldview is explicated by the frequent use of the first person singular pronoun within the modal sphere of E.A. Laskova","doi":"10.29025/2079-6021-2022-3-18-30","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.29025/2079-6021-2022-3-18-30","url":null,"abstract":"The purpose of the study is to prove that the coordination of criteria for the effectiveness of judgments put forward in the genre of political interview is observed not only between the journalist and the respondent («in the first frame»), but also between the actual participants of the conversation and the target audience («in the second frame»). It is proved that the interviewer and the respondent postulate and ratify the criteria for the effectiveness of the initiated points of view not only among themselves, but also for the third participant of the conversation – the audience, which is regarded as the most important arbiter, accepting or rejecting the propositional content of the dialogical replicas that construct the conversation. Based on Yu. Habermas’ theory of communicative action it is stated that due to the media specifics of the implementation of a political interview, the audience is not able to coordinate the status of the criteria for the truth of the judgments of the interviewer and the respondent directly «in the first frame». The public discuss these criteria among themselves or with other audiences. Taking into account the methods developed in the conversational analysis, the political interview is investigated as a discursive phenomenon with a dual status, namely as a process of publishing relevant information about the current situation by the interviewer and the respondent and the product of formation and decision-making about the situation in the country and the world by representatives of society. Impartial expression of opinions is carried out in a political interview not only based on a system of regulated exchange of remarks, but also as a result of contextual production and interpretation of linguistic phenomena that implement explicit and implicit semantics. It is indicated that the differentiation between surface language forms and deep semantic content, explicit meanings and implicit meanings is relevant. The necessity of using pragmatic principles for the analysis of media discourse based on such concepts as implicatures of meaning, communicative intentionality is substantiated. Klemenova","doi":"10.29025/2079-6021-2022-3-31-43","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.29025/2079-6021-2022-3-31-43","url":null,"abstract":"Within the framework of this study – based on the texts of informal interviews published in English-language tabloids – the illocution of reactive disagreement is defined as an effective pragmatic mechanism for the coherent unfolding of the text, jointly generated by the interlocutors. Based on the method of conversational analysis, the constructive potential of a negative response to the propositional content and assessments that form a stimulating assertive message of the interviewer is revealed. Attention is focused on the form and content of the responses, explicitly/implicitly expressing disagreement, their pragmatic functions and role in ensuring the coherence of dialogical unity, reflecting the discussion of a specific topic by the interlocutors. It is established that in order to minimize discursive confrontation, the respondent can react with disagreement, which has a delayed character, with a preliminary expression of concession in favor of the effectiveness of the interviewer’s point of view. At the same time, in order to create relevant conditions for the implementation of a relaxed / partial disagreement, the respondent can initiate several dialogical moves. As a result, the stimulating judgments of the interviewer are interpreted as one of the alternative versions of the interpretation of the event or fact being discussed, and an informal conversation produces a pragmatic effect of intrigue. A softened form of disagreement can also be implemented by reacting replicas with blurred semantics due to hedging and markers of epistemic modality, a detailed explanation of the facts associated with the topic under discussion, activation of the shift of the current attention of the interviewer and the target audience. The motives underlying the reactive implementation of direct/implicit disagreement are revealed: the respondent’s desire to hide information about the prospects of his creative activity, which is requested by the interviewer, to avoid disharmony in interpersonal interaction, the gap between the interlocutors’ background knowledge, the dissimilarity of their axiological positions regarding the topic of discussion. A pragmatic justification of these motives is given. The empirical basis of the work is fiction, descriptive texts are selected from the works of Russian classics of the 19th-20th centuries. The work uses a functional-semantic approach and the method of contextual analysis. The genre description paradigm is formed by a description-landscape, a description-interior, a description-portrait and a description of a thing (displaying the external properties of an object). In all genre varieties of description, the contours of the spatial arrangement of objects are outlined: through actants and predicates, the referential space is transmitted, in addition to which the receptive space associated with pragmatic meanings and subjective navigation can be explored. The greatest variety of groups of predicates, is observed in the description-landscape. A more limited set of lexical-semantic groups of predicates is presented in the description-interior. The most limited set of groups of predicates is fixed in the description-portrait due to the limited set of elements that make up the external image of a person. The relevance of this study is due, on the one hand, to the significant growth and development of information technology and the significant role of modern media that influence all areas of society life, and on the other hand, the popularity of ideas and principles of proper nutrition. The purpose of this article is to consider the specifics of the genre space of the English mass media nutritional discourse, as well as to analyze the linguistic features of texts on healthy nutrition. The research material is texts on healthy nutrition published in English journals and posted on the Internet. Based on the results of the analysis of 1,500 mass media texts, and taking into account the subject of discussion, the pragmatics of messages, as well as the way information is represented, the author speaks about the existence of analytical and imperative genres within the mass media nutritional discourse. Analytical genres, which include reviews (food and dishes, cooking methods, etc.) and reports (results of scientific research, experiments, etc.) make up 43.5% of the sample material, they contain an analysis of a phenomenon, its justification and commentary. In turn, imperative genres represented by instructions, primarily culinary recipes, which account for 56.5% of the sample material, are characterized by a special nature and contain a clear algorithm of certain actions necessary for implementation.
