By the example of the prose by B.Y. Poplavsky, the constructive importance of the deictic shift in the narrator’s narrative is emphasized, which leads to the reader’s immersion in the processes of processing explicable information, loss of self-perception. Another approach focuses on the processes of constructing the author’s message: when perceiving the narrative, the reader is stimulated to use background knowledge necessary for comparison with the state of affairs described in the text at the moment. The relationship between these sequentially activated processes is conceptualized: the deictic shift and immersion in the narrative becomes the basis for the relevant interpretation of the narrative, which precedes its impact on the reader’s emotional and volitional sphere and imagination. It is concluded that the deictic shift observed in the narrative turns out to be one of the basic mechanisms of reader text processing, explication of the mental model of interpersonal relationships between characters, fixed by the narrator. The authors believe that the processes underlying the deictic shift and the mental reconstruction of the storyline together determine the reader’s sense of immersion in the literary text. The study establishes clear relationships between the linguistic originality of a literary text and various kinds of reactions of the reader perceiving this text. The reader’s going beyond his psychological and intellectual «Self», his immersion in the text provides an alternative experience that feels as if it unfolds in the format of real everyday life. It is established that changing the character’s point of view to the interlocutor character provides a relevant understanding of the narrative scenario, functions as a simulation controlled by the author in a recreated imaginary world. The study applies corpus methodology (Lancsbox concordance tools) and statistical analysis tools in order to analyse the interdendency between the level of linguistic expertise of learners and their ability to apply certain patterns with grammatical metaphors in academic writing. Additionally, the instances of intermediate realisations (errors) are investigated. The analysed corpus is a subset of the Russian Error-Annotated Learner English Corpus (REALEC) initiated by the National Research University Higher School of Economics. The subcorpus used in this research included opinion essays written by first year Master’s students in elective courses on arguing in English in the span of three years (2016, 2017, 2018). The corpus comprised the total of 112037 words. The results of the current study suggest that three models of grammatical metaphor inclusion into complex nominal phrases present the most prominent challenge for Russian-speaking L2 learners of English for Academic Purposes from the perspective of grammatical complexity and informational density (adjective + nominalisation, nominalisation + -ing clause, nominalisation + -ed clause). While for many languages of the Soviet Union the choice of the Latin script was intended to be a cultural and ideological weapon against the graphic monopoly of the Muslim tradition, the case of Ossetic is quite different and extremely interesting, as the graphic ‘conflict’ was about the replacement of the Russian alphabet and the abandonment of a solid literary tradition, albeit a young one. In this way, the Latinization of Ossetian became an important test case for discussions conducted because of not so much religious or linguistic, but rather identity considerations and cultural issues, as reflected in the choice of the script. The present article provides a “post-event” account of the debate between supporters and opponents of the new alphabet, given by the cultural activist Grigoriy A. Dzagurov in a short pamphlet, published in 1923. On the other side, across the Soviet border, we find a memorandum by the emigrant Georgiy Vasilievich Baev in which he expresses his critical opinion about the change of alphabet in North Ossetia and sets out the cultural-historical and practical reasons for his preference for the Cyrillic script. Fixing the relevant areas of implicit (usually socially labeled) knowledge, not always covered by traditional institutional sources, bringing this knowledge to the target audience are important discourse functions performed by comedians in their appropriate roles. It is established that the actor puts on the mask of an ordinary representative of society, against the background of a comic distortion of reality, he voices “marginal” metaphorical meanings that form the current everyday routine, expressing anger and despair about vicious and weak manifestations inherent in human nature. The comedy genre allows performers to demonstrate a personal view of the world order, to realize their place in the world around them. It is concluded that these possibilities become the central element of the identity of the actor-comedian, determine the parameters of who he objectively is, fix his finding between the internal state and the external manner of behavior that can be recognized by the audience. The comedian is like a creative “persona”, a psychological entity with special characteristics that can be publicly noticed, recognized and used by representatives of a certain culture as a whole. The scenarios generated by the comedian are investigated, which can be traditional or situational (specific to the current communication environment). Their switching in the actor’s discourse determines the nature of the relationship with the audience from complete collusion to confrontation with it.The humorous potential of the actor’s judgments programs a sudden cognitive shift in the audience’s consciousness, which is generated by the discrepancy between perceived meanings and generally accepted mental models of explication of meanings from linguistic units, the effect of deceived expectations. The viewer experiences an unexpected change of psychological state due to spontaneous changes in the interpretation of individual words, phrases or the actor’s narrative as a whole. The purpose of the article is to examine the internal destruction of the linking function of a single official language, to analyze the discriminatory status of the Spanish language in modern Spain, to predict the consequences of such a language policy and to carry out a comparative analysis of the language situation in Spain and Russia. The object of the study is the Spanish language as the official language of the Kingdom of Spain and its role, significance and functions in the regions of the country, reflecting the political processes of recent decades. Comparative, historical and typological approaches are used, as well as the methods of observation, analysis and modeling. The author investigates the causes of the linguistic inequality in Spain and states the negative consequences of the language policy pursued by the government. The relevance of the study is due to the fact that the increased interest in the first topic is timeless due to the belittling of the significance of the second, so this study is not aimed at entering into a discussion about the ideological attitudes of the writer, but rather at identifying in this regard some recurring details, motifs and metaphorical constructions generated by the text of the novel. Thus, the aim of the paper is to study the poetic elements of certain fragments of the text of Tolstoy’s novel “Resurrection”, which are created contrary to the ideological interpretation and debunking of the language of the church. Regarding the method of research: for analysis, on the one hand, narrative techniques are highlighted, with the help of which religious rites and language in the “Resurrection” are ridiculed, and on the other, methods of linguapoetic analysis are used. The main conclusions of the study are that while the words, objects, elements and acts of action of Easter praise and communion are exposed in narration, the true spiritual resurrection is presented with the help of natural and sound motifs and the implementation of metaphors at the level of the author’s idiostylistics. As a result of this analysis, it can be argued that in Tolstoy’s novel, closed institutions of power are replaced by a genuine road to enlightenment. The method of linguistic argumentation was used when comparing the ways to implement a communicative goal by the producers at the verbal level; the methods of linguistic observation were used to identify the specificity of communicative and pragmatic layers of text units semantics. On the basis of cognitive and discursive, pragmatic and communicative approaches to the object of research, the ways of propositional structuring such purpose semantics in a text as topicalization, segmentation, contrast provided by the body of prosodic means, as well as a set of lexical and grammatical means built on the principle of pragmatic significance, including dissected ways of communicating the goal (antecedent-anaphoric complexes) were identified. The interaction of the propositional and pragmatic layers of the text that verbalize the semantics of the goal was investigated. Linguistic markers used in political leaders discursive form of interviews were presented. Linguistic markers used in the political leaders discourse in the genre of interview were presented. Original canons and akathists written by English native speakers are used for the research. These texts are chosen because they are considered to be a specific medium where elements of the scope of religious (Orthodox) concepts are represented. Hymnographic texts are written according to specific genre modals which imply the usage of a significant number of linguistic and stylistic means. Not only do these means determine the outer form of such texts, but they also relate to the transferred message. The meanings conveyed in hymnographic texts are closely connected with religious experience. The cognitive approach to linguistic and stylistic means of church text makes it possible to describe the metaphorical patterns of the mental processing of religious experience. It is concluded in the article that the most frequent linguistic and stylistic means in the researched hymnography are metaphors based on epithets and antitheses. The results of the analysis demonstrate that the following source domains are used to create conceptual metaphors: water and water current, nature phenomena, light phenomena, warfare, construction (as a particular type of building). The images of saints are also represented with the help of image schema “container” which is connected with how the outcome of pious lifestyle is mentally represented. The antithesis underlines contrast between religious and lay lifestyles. The purpose of the article is to establish the semantic and linguocultural characteristics of the concept “culture code” and to identify the functions of its units – symbols in verbal descriptions of national heraldry. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to understand the essence and lingocultural features of the verbalization of national heraldry symbols. The study was conducted on the material of blazoning of the coats of arms of the former USSR republics, the states of the former colonies of Great Britain, France, Spain and Portugal, which once had a common joint past and a common language of interethnic communication. The novelty of this study lies in the fact that for the first time blazonization is the object of a linguistic description. It is established that a linguocultural code differs from a simple code by the unconsciousness and unintentionality of its creation; it “inherited” the password property from the symbol: possession of this code opens access to a certain culture for its “users”. The linguocultural code is defined in the most general form as a system of images referring to the verbalized concepts of spiritual culture, it is always a set of symbols of a particular ethnic or national culture that can refer to different semantic content. The study showed that the in the creation of the coat of arms the verbal description of the heraldic image is primary – the blazon obtained as a result of blazonig, which consists in explaining the symbols present on the coats of arms. The author came to the conclusion that the figurative embodiment of the basic linguocultural concepts of the national idea in the heraldry of countries united by the common language of blazonization indicates the use of units of the most diverse cultural codes, distinguished by thematic feature. In the heraldic symbolization of power, sovereignty, unity of the nation, the struggle for independence and the positive personal qualities of the inhabitants of the country, units of subject, animalistic, plant, astronomical, “weaponry” and chromatic cultural codes are used. Filatov","doi":"10.29025/2079-6021-2023-3-192-206","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.29025/2079-6021-2023-3-192-206","url":null,"abstract":"The article contains a general substantiation of theoretical and applied literary criticism as a course of study within the framework of higher philological education, which is focused on the critical and analytical examination of literary texts from the point of view of the argumentation system, linguistic and compositional features presented in them, and at the same time on the assimilation of the genre “rules” of the final qualification work. The relevance of this discipline is determined by the need to bridge the gap between the teaching of fundamental aspects of the literary criticism and the development of practical skills in analyzing not only artistic, but also scholar and critical-literary text, as well as the increasing applied importance of philology in the modern world. The directions of coordination of various perspectives of work with a literary text, taking into account the achievements of related fields of knowledge: linguistic stylistics, rhetoric and academic writing, are outlined. The methodological pluralism underlying the course makes it possible to correlate historical and scientific retrospective and current state of literary studies; principles of immanent and contextual analysis; specialized and interdisciplinary approaches. The clarification of the constitutive components of qualification research is achieved indirectly, through the analysis and convincing interpretation of the precedent text for literary criticism, which implies the differentiation of manifest and conceptual levels, typical and unique features in it.
