The purpose of the study is to determine the perfect mother tongue of students and to evaluate the efficacy of translanguaging methods in the teaching of English as foreign language. The research used three types of data, including quantitative, qualitative, and test data, as well as a survey conducted among 250 students at the Faculty of Arts. The results of the study suggest that translanguaging methods should be adopted to meet the needs of the country, particularly when English is combined with one of the local languages or French, in order to improve the understanding of students and their academic performance, particularly for those Congolese Learners of English who are not exposed to English often. The main problem in this study is that the learners at the University are learning English as an academic subject and a medium of instruction that they do not understand very well. However, the concept of’mother tongue’ (MT) is very important in learning other languages including a foreign language. This is especially true for students who live in a multilingual environment like DRC who have to follow and understand certain subjects taught in English. Most of them do not have their own unique and same mother tongue. For example, there are situations where a person speaks two basic languages, one is Congolese and the other is a second language. For example, someone who has been extensively exposed to a non-Congolese language like French since birth in addition to their Congolese language.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135863328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Emergence of this theoretical paradigm was facilitated by the research of languages from the standpoint of their complexity and the development of methods for quantifying the complexity of texts. Based on the analysis of approaches to the study of language complexity and text complexity, the author suggests a possible adaptation of methodological techniques of discourse complexology to the analysis of not only inter-linguistic, but also intra-linguistic comparisons, for example, to the analysis of professional types of discourse. It is stated that, by analogy with the existence of different levels of complexity among different languages, different types of professional discourse can also be characterized by different degrees of complexity. The scientific novelty of the research lies in initiating the analysis of legal discourse from the standpoint of discourse complexology. Considering the complex nature of communication within legal discourse, the author applies a research concept that describes three models of interaction within a certain type of discourse: “language–communicant”, “language–language”, “language–discourse”. Based on the analysis of the research material, as well as taking into account the theoretical developments of discourse complexology, the author develops a preliminary classification of the parameters of legal discourse complexity, which includes phonetic, morphological, syntactic and lexical and semantic parameters. It is concluded that further study of legal discourse and other professional types of discourse, taking into account the latest achievements of discourse complexology, will contribute to the development of a typology of professional types of discourse from the standpoint of their complexity, as well as the practical application of the results obtained in various linguistic and pragmatic conditions.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135817787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Linguistic landscape forms the material for the research as it reflects the developing language. The aim of the investigation was to analyze visualization-based ergonyms. The first stage of the research was to collect ergonyms on busy streets of central Moscow using continuous sampling method. 2700 units were found and sorted out according to the visualization means, such as pictograms, bright font, supragraphemic, capitalization, syntactic game, codographisation, paragraphemic signs, numerals. Besides it was found out what commercial enterprises’ nominations are mostly attractive to the citizens and which of them evoke positive, neutral or negative attitude. To meet the goal 90 respondents from various age groups were surveyed. The results obtained were systemized with the help of statistical analysis’ elements. It was stated that the most positive estimations were given to ergonyms with pictograms, the same units were claimed to be the most attractive. Bright signboards especially in yellow colour gained more positive remarks. Young people prefer laconic signboards more than the seniors do. Respondents of elder age tend to estimate ergonyms with codographisation rather negatively. Results obtained can be the base for signboards’ authors’ recommendations aimed at different age groups of potential consumers. Moreover, the data has some potential to be used in teaching several theoretical and practical disciplines, such as sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, linguaculturology, fundamentals of cross-cultural communication, professional and cross-cultural communication practicums, etc.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135817623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relevance of the study is due to the close attention of the whole world to environmental problems and the search for their solutions through the formation of the ecological consciousness of the population. One of the ways to influence the behavior of society is social advertising. The purpose of the article is to identify ways to implement the pragmatic setting of the English ecological advertisement texts. The article was carried out within the framework of an interdisciplinary approach using the methods of discursive, contextual and semantic analysis, elements of interpretation. The material of the study is the English texts of banner and video advertisements posted on the Internet on the sites “Greenpeace”, “World Wide Fund for Nature” in the amount of 202 examples. The authors of the article believe that the main strategies implemented in English ecological advertisement are the strategy of managing the criticality of perception and the frustration strategy. The cognitive and discursive model of ecological advertisement will include obligatory participants, i.e. the subject (on whose behalf the material is presented), the subject (explicated along with the person through the personification of the animal and the object), the object (the current problematic environmental topics) and the predicate. The type of informing as an optional member of the cognitive and discursive model in ecological advertisement allows you to convey to the addressee information about the current environmental situation, a message about an interesting fact, environmental forecasting. According to the authors, the characteristic linguistic means presented in environmental advertising are wordplay, rhyme, symbolism of color terms, and allusions. These tools, combined with audiovisual effects, make ecological advertisement memorable and have the right impact on the addressee.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135817634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cognitive style itself can be defined as a dynamic “scheme of action” that facilitates the structuring of the communicative process. The algorithm for creating and translating the results of discursivization in scientific communication contains a flexible sequence of cognitive and verbal actions to solve problems determined by situational and contextual conditions. As a result of discourse, modus and conversational analysis, the authors determine the illocutionary readiness of producers for generation and verbalization, and recipients for apperception and interpretation of “anchor” concepts as cognitive style markers and elements of structuring cognitive and communicative activity. The empirical material was microcontexts from the collective monograph “Introduction to the Synergetics of Translation”, containing both markers of the generation of cognitive components and their translation and conventionalization. An analysis of cognitive styles that are combined in academic discourse into a synergistic unity, a cognitive strategy, revealed the dominance of the right-handed characteristics of the Myers-Briggs type indicator: analyticism, field independence, focusing flexibility, reflectivity, and detailing. Compliance with the identified criteria involves the use of soft patterns as components of dynamic “schemes of action”, which leads to the flexibility of algorithms and modification of the sequence of acts of cognition and verbalization. The authors conclude that the potential acceptability of the cognitive styles of various participants in academic communication and the adaptive possibilities of style characteristics make it possible to create a cognitive strategy as a general direction of generative- and interpretative activity. The apperceptive type of cognitive activity, the “anchoring” of individual concepts in the space of scientific reception, the possibility of delayed harmonization of cognitive styles in the “downtime” situation are the conditions for identifying correspondences of the academic discourse macroproposition in the text.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135817336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basis for creating a common sphere of goal-setting is not only the intention of agents and clients to ensure the realization of the dominant goal, but also the presence of a conventionalizing “tertiary agent” (tertiariis agens), which contributes to the constant comparison of their own communicative actions with model samples. As part of the description of the strategies and tactics of consolidation, based on the discursive-modus analysis, not only the key speech-actual characteristics of the harmonization of communication are revealed, but also the interpretive potential of verbalizers of personal illocution elements that do not correspond to the situation of normalized semiosis. For the formation of the card index, the most representative, in terms of the constant change of the coding register, the borderline discourse of social work was chosen. The result of the analysis is a list of the most effective speech acts of direct and hidden implementation of access to the control of discourse development vectors: commissives, promises, declaratives, metacommunicative phatic markers, as well as menasives with a modified illocution as causatives. The contamination of illocutionary spaces occurs on the basis of conditional institutionality with a priori acceptance of the criterion of “equalizing” agents and clients. Agent-client interaction is implemented in similar strategies and tactics for initiating key values; harmonization is achieved by reducing conflict potential during the transformation of the usual functional load. The regulatory potential of tertiariis agens, provided by the presence of conventionalization prototexts, contributes to the reduction of intimization entropy by creating a synergistic goal-setting vector and transforming the countercommunicator’s illocution.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135817341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the study is to identify and describe the properties and means of overstatement actualization. An interdisciplinary approach and the method of psycholinguistic analysis of the communicants’ speech output are used. The material for the analysis was the statements of the participants from the 2013-2022 television interviews. It is established that at present overstatement, the property of communicative demonstrativeness, is widely used as a means of the speakers’ attractive verbal behavior, caused by the need to obtain recognition of the personality identity that the speech producer presents from other people and its consolidation in the consciousness of the recipients. It is emphasized that the semantic basis of overstatement is the expression of the worldview possessed by a manipulative linguistic personality. Demonstrative overstatement, used to highlight a significant message, may have involuntary, intentional and periodic types and perform expressive, conative, aesthetic, pragmatic, denotative and contact functions. The study shows that overstatement in communicative demonstrativeness is realized in speech strategies of bragging, dramatization, false complaint, compliment, praise, condemnation, and humiliation as a way of self-promotion, over-evaluation and double over-evaluation, consisting of the adverb «absolutely» and an adjective. The linguistic means of actualization of overstatement are revealed: hyperbole, hyperbolic form of tropes (metaphors, epithets, comparisons), phraseological units, superlative adjectives, emotionally marked verbs, semantic and grammatical superlatives conveying the maximum degree of quality, intensifiers «very», «quite», exclamation sentences, shortened quotations, modified sayings and imperative suggestions. The results obtained can be used in the course of semiotics and psycholinguistics.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135817351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Translation strategies are identified which allow achieving accuracy in the translation of legal texts. The paper uses such research methods as contextual analysis, descriptive analysis, comparative analysis, definition analysis, distributive analysis. The factors that complicate the translation of legal texts are identified, including replenishment of the legal terminology system with neologisms and abundance of specialized legal terminology and terminology of related fields of knowledge. It is pointed out that the translator must possess specialized knowledge, as well as a high level of translation and linguacultural competence, which will help to avoid distortion of meaning and violation of the logic when translating from English into Russian. The author identifies the translation techniques used in the translation of legal texts, the choice of which is determined by the analyzed principles and strategies. The research material is the English-language texts of the declarations of BRICS summits and their official translated Russian-language versions. As a result of the research, it was found that the principles of translation of international legal documents correspond to the classical principles of translation, since they require the translator to have a good understanding of the text content, a high level of proficiency in both the source and target languages, preservation of the author’s communicative intention in translation. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the identification of another principle of translation, which a translator should focus on when choosing strategies and techniques for translating international legal texts, in particular, the principle of interdisciplinarity. The author also identifies the main translation techniques, the use of which allows to achieve equivalence and adequacy in translation of legal texts. The research contributes to the development of the theory and practice of translation in general and specialized translation, in particular. In the future, it is planned to conduct comparative studies aimed at identifying the principles, strategies and techniques of translating civil and criminal law documents.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135817485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
