The research material covers 186 Anglo-American borrowings extracted from articles published and videos posted in French and Canadian periodicals, websites and forums. To achieve the purpose of the study, the following methods were used: the method of continuous sampling of the material, descriptive and comparative methods of the selected material analysis, comparative analysis of dictionary definitions, the method of contextual analysis, as well as the method of statistical data analysis. The results of the study showed that, penetrating into the French language, Anglo-Americanisms undergo lexical, morphological, graphic, syntactic and semantic assimilation in the recipient language. Lexical assimilation, in which Anglicisms are used by native French speakers without adaptation to its language system, is the most frequent phenomenon. The results of an online survey of native French speakers confirmed the following fact: a number of lexically assimilated Anglo-Americanisms most commonly used in everyday life were identified. The survey also revealed a high percentage of respondents inclined to using this layer of vocabulary in their native French language. The study also provides examples of regulatory documents and the names of some public organizations that counteract the penetration of foreign language vocabulary into the French language. An attempt is made to identify extra- and intra-linguistic factors of the integration of Anglicisms into different spheres of human activity. The authors give examples of parallel use of English borrowings and their French equivalents. In the study, the authors pay attention to the etymology of the term Franglais, give a classification of Anglo-American borrowings, as well as represent the ambiguous views of leading linguists and politicians of the French-speaking space regarding the reasons for the appearance of Franglais and their influence on the purity of the French language.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135863195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By authentic materials, authors mean printed texts, videos and audio recordings that students face in everyday life – outside the classroom; at the same time, the main purpose of such materials is not to teach the language, but to transfer information and organize real communication. This kind of journalistic video material is considered in this study as a means of forming the language and socio-cultural competencies of students of the Russian language as a foreign language. The article emphasizes the specifics of this kind of educational content: the use in a large number of colloquial vocabulary, speech clichés, professional terms, words with emotional coloring, evaluative vocabulary, equivalent vocabulary, phraseological units, metaphors, quotes and reminiscences that imply knowledge of precedent texts, specific gestures, facial expressions, etc. The authors cover various approaches to the problem of using authentic texts in the practice of teaching Russian as a foreign language, determine the main criteria for selecting authentic news video materials for Russian as a foreign language lessons, depending on the level of students. The authors emphasize that it is advisable to use news videos as authentic materials in classes in Russian as a foreign language starting from the B1 level: foreign students who speak Russian at this level are able to perceive by ear and understand monological statements within the framework of current socio-cultural topics. As a practical material, the article presents an algorithm for working with news journalistic content in accordance with the level of proficiency in the Russian language, proposed samples of tasks for use in classes in Russian as a foreign language. The methodological basis of the study was the use of the following methods: a descriptive and analytical method, a method of systematization and classification, a design method, as well as a communicative methodology for teaching a foreign language.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44275829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the article is to distinguish and examine the used in implicit clickbaits manipulative means which help to cultivate the reader’s interest and make them pass to the article. The relevance of the current investigation is determined by a wide spread of clickbaits in media cyberspace, the users’ negative attitude to them and their constant evolvement for concealment and formal conformation to the criteria of non-blocked headlines. The analysed material comprises the clickbait headlines in online media whose announcements are presented on large Russian news aggregators. The material was selected within 2018-2022. The overall number of investigated materials is 3050 units. The material is analysed using such methods as introspection, conceptual modelling, unselected and purposive samplings and interpretative analysis. The analysed material shows that according to the degree of connection with the article clickbat headlines can be divided into 4 types: 1) clickbait headlines of “universal” wording applicable to texts with any content; 2) clickbait headlines which are not connected with the content of the article, 3) clickbait headlines connected with the content of the article via their non-sensational parts; 4) clickbait headlines reflecting the content of the article. Three first types are considered obvious clickbaits while the last one is an implicit clickbait. The manipulative means which give an opportunity to make a clickbait implicit include manipulation with word meanings, stylistic and grammatical manipulations, provoking logical mistakes, reticence, overstatement, neglecting the time factor, taking a statement out of context, substitution of concepts, assimilation of headlines to typical associations.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42061756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article investigates the use and choice of address forms categories used between students and administrative staff interactions. The article is focused on the socio-cultural influence on the use and choice of address forms, as well as on identifying the frequency of address forms in different contexts in academic settings. The author believes that the data collected reflect the linguistic and cultural identity of the interlocutors. The data were collected through an adapted questionnaire along with ethnographic observation, moreover, 252 responses were received from participants. The data were analyzed quantitatively using SPSS v.20 for frequency and percent and qualitative research for interpretations and observation. The results reveal honorifics, kinship terms, occupational terms, and endearments as main categories along with names and titles. The results also showed that native and English address forms were used to express desired pragmatic purposes. The article describes each category in academic discourse and how social and cultural values influence the use and choice. The author concludes that a variety of examples from addressing practices suggest that students adhere to their lingua-cultural identity despite interacting in the English language.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43953948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the article is to identify the peculiarities of language representation of the Wellness brand in the texts of media discourse, represented by printed publications (newspapers and magazines about health, fashion, beauty, psychology of family life, etc.). and audiovisual content on the Internet (podcasts about Wellness and healthy lifestyles, official English and Russian-language websites of government health programs, clinics and companies whose products and services are related to the promotion of Wellness in the service market), as well as blogs on fitness, healthy eating, meditation, psychological trainings that promote the principles of a healthy lifestyle. The goal is achieved by referring to modern scientific, both domestic and foreign research in the field of Wellness. The relevance of the presented research is determined by the need to understand which language means help to form a positive image of the Wellness brand in the open media space, which branding practices are the most successful, due to what means and speech strategies. The novelty of this study is that for the first time the Wellness brand is studied from the perspective of sociolinguistic and linguistic analysis of texts, aimed at promoting not only beauty services, but the health of the nation in the harmonization of the physical, social, spiritual, mental, emotional and intellectual aspects. The result of the research is the revealing the differences in the representation of Wellness in English- and Russian-speaking linguistic cultures of media space, effective language means of Wellness brand representation, productive appeals to stereotypes in creating advertising descriptions of Wellness products, and also the role of precedence in informing the public from different platforms - from printed media to official websites and Internet-communities.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47607541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the article is to conduct a cognitive and discursive analysis of the expressive means used by TED Talk speakers to have an impact on the cognitive and emotional sphere of the audience. Based on the method of complete text sampling, the author compiles a limited corpus of texts on the topics of “Language Learning” and “Business”, which are subjected to further cognitive and discursive analysis, revealing the features of the organization of the TED Talks media text, phonetic, lexical and grammatical units related to the lecture topic and used by the TED speaker to convey information. In particular, the author identifies the use of techniques such as pausing, intonation, vocal expression, rhetorical questions, repetition, and parallelism. The author concludes that changes in intonation and pausing are used by the speaker to enhance the expression of emotions, emphasize important points, and provide additional emphasis. Analysis of semantic and syntactic features has revealed a number of speech peculiarities of TED lecturers that are capable of influencing message perception. It has been found that the special nature of the speech pragmatics of TED Talks lectures, such as the use of repetitions, analogies, and metaphors, parallel constructions, short sentences, etc., helps the TED speaker to emphasize the key ideas or concepts in speech, inspire, tune the listener to a certain action or behavior, as well as promote the memorization of information and the retention of listeners’ attention. The author emphasizes that the motivational discourse of TED Talks lectures is extremely interesting and promising for modern linguistic research in the context of its media coverage and popularization.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46805160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Weide» in polymodal units. The study is aimed at analyzing the linguo-semiotic specifics of encoding of polycode representatives in a complex precedent phenomenon (CPP). In the course of the analysis of 480 polymodal units (Internet memes, creolized articles and news items) chosen by selective sampling method from English and Russian Internet domains, a set of precedent elements that are a part of the CPP was identified. The description of systemic modifications of the original content of polycode representatives in the CPP «Directed by Robert B. Weide» was carried out based on such methodological techniques as case studies, situational and cultural reflection, component analysis of words and phrases, intertextual, stylistic and inductive research methods. The study specifies the CPP is an integrative sign that includes elements of several semiotic codes. They are as follows: 1) visual precedent images of Larry David, the character of the Curb Your Enthusiasm series; comedian-host S. Harvey at the beauty contest ceremony; captions on a black background; 2) verbalized elements (text) «Directed by Robert B. Weide»; the names «Robert B. Weide» and «Larry David», catch phrases of the sitcom character; 3) auditory element - L. Michelini’s melody «Frolic». Systemic modifications of the original content of the polycode representatives in CPP «Directed by Robert B. Weide» are characterized in a diachronic key: starting from the formation of an associative connection of the image of the main character of the series and the difficulties of communicative interaction, to the name-representative associated with directing an absurd or embarrassing situation («Robert B. Weide») and precedent text of the caption («Directed by Robert B. Weide») with the semantics of summing up some annoying or fatal situation. The text examples demonstrate CPP encoding in four variants at different semiotic levels (visual, verbal, auditory) and in different syncretism formats (using one / two or all codes of the original CPP).","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42829532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The heterogeneous discourses resulting from these processes are characterized by a specific goal and strategic and tactical apparatus, which is of particular interest in terms of discourse studies. The article aims to identify the main communicative goals, strategies and tactics in the genre of analytical article on legal issues. The study uses the texts of English-language analytical articles on legal issues published in electronic versions of the following daily editions: The Times, Financial Times, The Guardian, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post in the period 2015–2022. The authors use philosophical, general scientific, as well as special methods and techniques: dialectical, empirical methods, description, induction, deduction, analysis, synthesis, methods of discursive and contextual analysis. The researchers identify the value dominant of the genre, which determines the goal and strategic and tactical characteristics of the analytical article on legal issues: elite legal awareness formation. In accordance with the value dominant, the main communicative goals of the genre are defined and described (informing, explaining, influencing and developing the recipient’s heuristic potential). The paper presents a general communicative media analytical strategy, which includes a set of principles involved in the implementation of this strategy (analyticity, reliability, persuasiveness, striving for objectivity, accessibility, individuality, multimediality, heuristics. The authors point out the importance of three factors that are decisive in the analysis of neologisms – time, linguistic space and the novelty of the linguistic unit. The research material includes the texts of articles in English and Russian from the socio-political online publications The New Yorker, Foreign Policy, The New York Times, The Spectator, New York Post, Gazeta.ru, Moskovsky Komsomolets, Tsargrad, RBC news portals, Ria-news. A review of theoretical sources on the research problem has shown that neologisms reflect the most relevant trends inherent in a particular period of socio-political development. The authors note that neologisms are specific to a particular language space, since they are based on the conceptual values of representatives of a particular linguistic culture. Their important characteristic is novelty, because they express concepts that had no previous names, respectively, are not recorded in lexicographic sources. The article presents a comprehensive linguistic analysis of neologisms of political mass media discourse, including word-formation, etymological and translation, during which the authors identify the most productive word-formation models and effective ways of translating English-language neologisms into Russian. The authors conclude that the most common ways of forming neologisms are affixation and telescoping. Using the example of the analysis of the research material, the authors demonstrate that the basis of neologisms are proper names and common names, to which international prefixes or suffixes are added, which makes them recognizable. Among the methods of translation, the authors note transliteration with / without explication as the most effective.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43014679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

English Military Terms Deconstruction in Mass Media Text 英语军事术语在大众传媒文本中的解构

The material for the study comprises 550 fragments of the English-language mass media texts published in electronic mass media – newspapers, in particular, The Independent, as well as on information news websites, having direct or indirect relation to military subjects, characterized by the presence of terminological units subjected to deconstructive processes. The authors emphasize the fact that the periodicals that have been analyzed are more of popular scientific genre, rather than highly specialized, since they are aimed at the mass reader who does not fully understand military topics. It is argued that highly specialized military terminological units, unlike general scientific, suprasectoral ones, are deconstructed within the framework of a mass media text according to the frame model or the scenario model. In some cases, a complex version of semantic deconstruction has been used which combines some elements of both models. The authors come to the conclusion that the English-language military terminology in the mass media text and discourse can be presented by both suprasectoral military terms of general scientific nature and having a certain degree of determinologization owing to the mass media and highly specialized terms which require a certain explanation by the author of the text. Highly specialized English-language military terminology is a characteristic feature of printed and online journalistic publications aimed at a trained reader. Due to the orientation of a mass media text to a mass audience, a significant part of highly specialized English-language terminological units of the military sphere is deconstructed in semantic terms, i.e. their meaning is revealed directly in the text to facilitate its perception and understanding by explication or definition.","PeriodicalId":34231,"journal":{"name":"Aktual''nye problemy filologii i pedagogicheskoi lingvistiki","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41583129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
