The creation of alternatives to encourage new philatelists is necessary in order to maintain this practice. A possible alternative for this situation, which is the core of this article, is the development of a game that may connect educational and philately's concepts. Developed for children between 8 and 10 years old, the authors expect that it might encourage the shaping of new philatelists. With an interdisciplinary approach and extrinsic motivations, the developed prototype received positive evaluations from experts and from the gamification framework Octalysis.","PeriodicalId":340408,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Latin American Conference on Learning Technologies (LACLO)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131011830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In an attempt to remedy the situation, the present study proposes an auxiliary learning object in the form of an interactive, adaptive digital game for understanding and practicing the arithmetic operations of addition, subtraction and multiplication for second grade (age 7-8) students, based on studies indicating the potential pedagogical validity of such objects. In particular, the adaptive capability of the object is focus of this investigation. This paper explores the motivations and decisions taken during development and details the implementation of the adaptive difficulty capability of the game. As the object is prepared for future tests with school children of the targeted age range, this work documents a qualitative assessment of the object through tests and validation with educators, in which 60 percent of participants agree that an adaptive game is better suited for educational use than a static one, but 40 percent present differing views.","PeriodicalId":340408,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Latin American Conference on Learning Technologies (LACLO)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130202063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the challenges presented by citizen science is the training of volunteers in the tasks required by the research project. A valid approach is through gamification strategies. Gamification is the use of game elements in contexts that were not intended to be a game. In this article, we present a study of the use of gamification in tutorials for a citizen science project of astronomy photo classification. The evaluations showed that the aesthetics, the evaluation by points, the promotion with badges and the competition have been promising elements in this type of tutorials.","PeriodicalId":340408,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Latin American Conference on Learning Technologies (LACLO)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122142592","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A didactical situation develops this kind of teaching since it produces a set of interrelations between the actors of the teaching-learning process, that is why this project proposes to develop a didactical situation to the teaching-learning of linear kinematics with the use of Tracker software, as part of a graduation project. The final objective is the complementation, articulation and support to improve the comprehension of concepts and graphs related to the rectilinear uniformly accelerated motion and that it also allows students to relate and interpret real facts with kinematics graphs through Tracker. At the same time, this proposal aims to be coherent with the curricular guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education, but significantly different to those implemented by teachers in practice.","PeriodicalId":340408,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Latin American Conference on Learning Technologies (LACLO)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122500279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These preferences are related to the learner's learning style. The identification of these styles helps students and teachers to choosing the most appropriate way to present the content to be studied. Typically, the learning styles identification are made through questionnaires. However, to fill a questionnaire is considered a tedious activity. The use of games could turn the students' learning styles identification more attractive and playful. Therefore, this paper describes the development of a mobile device game for clustering and identification of Absorption students' styles (Felder-Silverman model). Through the proposed approach, a teacher could apply the game to a group of students in order to check, through an online system, the relationship of students grouped by different learning styles. With this information, the teacher could apply the appropriate didactics for each group.","PeriodicalId":340408,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Latin American Conference on Learning Technologies (LACLO)","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116310096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are responsible for processing images that we see on computers, televisions, cell phones and games. It is a fact that parallel processing is a reality, so computer professionals need to know the peculiarities of this form of programming. However, teaching parallel computing is not a simple task, the computational thinking parallel is quite different from that for the sequential processing. This work, then proposes a new methodology for teaching parallel computing for young beginners in programming. Our technique is based on principles of unplugged computing, like to learn doing and playing. We believe that unplugged computing can be very useful in teaching the difficult concepts of parallel computing 1","PeriodicalId":340408,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Latin American Conference on Learning Technologies (LACLO)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115772813","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim tries to identify the exchanges that emerge between the connections of the students through the written communication in the forums. In order to do so, we analyzed students' posts in the discussion spaces of the MOOC - Learning to Learn, from California University in San Diego. The methodology is configured as a qualitative research, which had as a scenario for data collection approximately 4,000 students enrolled. Social network analysis (ARS) and data mining were performed. The course lasted 4 weeks, followed for four consecutive months. This allowed us to discover the social role and the role assumed by the students. The result of this research allows to believe that the connected society the MOOC is more a proposal of sharing of content and consultation of study material. However, regarding the promotion of social exchanges there is evidence of the need and presence of pedagogical mediation. Education - still based on a traditional paradigm - needs to discover methodological possibilities arising from distance learning, online and hybrid. The challenge is to design spaces of learning that enable pedagogical mediation between subject and object of knowledge","PeriodicalId":340408,"journal":{"name":"2018 XIII Latin American Conference on Learning Technologies (LACLO)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134208257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
