Ambon is one example of a plural community that has experienced several horizontal conflicts, especially in 1999-2001. The stereotypical view of a religious group against another group, usually followed by the emergence of hostilities, attempts to attack each other, kill each other, burn each other houses of worship, and so on. Although the situation in Ambon is quite peaceful today, but the latent potential for further conflicts is still very likely. Efforts to revive local wisdom and an inventory of customary symbols began. The Customary Symbols owned by the Indigenous People have a strong emotional value for the Ambonese community. This is considered capable of reducing conflict. The problems that exist, are those who at the time of conflict are still children and they are presently very likely to still experience trauma; the existence of segregation of religion-based settlements as one of the post-conflict resolution efforts; as well as the widespread understanding of local wisdom values by young people because of the lack of cultivation of these values by parents to their children, enabling this condition to be a potential for continued conflict. Means for the transfer of knowledge about sustainable local wisdom and conservation of indigenous symbols are needed to overcome this problem. This can also be used as a means to build peace. Public space as a meeting point and cross cutting affiliation and conservation of custom symbols becomes important to establish resilience to the possibility of further conflict","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78503487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study used descriptive qualitative to describe the information from the lecturers about the strategies they used in providing materials for the learners. Purposive sampling technique is used to collect the data through a semi-structured interview with six lecturers of reading courses. The result of the data was analysed with coding. Research findings revealed that the lecturers firstly evaluated the material to select the most appropriate materials by considering some factors linked to the student needs, student interests, and student level. Then, other factors associated with the text, content, and syllabus. The meaning of new words is very often emphasised, both in books and in verbal communication. Vocabulary is considered a centre of language teaching and is very important for language learners. This study found a daily code-mixing strategy in learning English vocabulary in the second grade of secondary school. The method used is qualitative and quantitative. The research phase includes pre-test and post-test, questionnaire and interview. The findings show that there is an influence on the level of student skills in using the strategy. Furthermore, it also found that students with higher vocabulary levels tended to take lessons in class interactively, this became fun, and students could motivate themselves they usually succeeded in learning by asking, monitoring and evaluating their learning habits. The findings also show that students with low vocabulary levels tend to choose to ignore direction and lack of participation, which means that they do not care about the course of the teacher and still carry unfavourable habits in the classroom. The findings of this study contribute to the further development of existing code-mixing theory and about vocabulary students and strategies. The more transparent and invisible the translator is, the better the quality of translation becomes. However, many experts argued that it is actually impossible for the translators to translate without leaving their thumbprints behind. Thus, the notion of translator style appeared. Studying and exploring the topic of translator style would provide more corroborative support on the view that translators are not merely a mirror of the original author; in fact, they are creative individuals with distinct linguistic characteristics and behaviors, and that translation is not inferior to writing. The objective of this study is to analyze the style of two Indonesian translators of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “A Scandal in Bohemia.” Moreover, this research also aims to enrich the literature of translator style in the Indonesian context since there are only a few studies about this particular topic in the Indonesian context. This research is qualitative in nature and utilized both corpus-assisted methodology and manual text analysis to gain the data. The findings show that the two Indonesian translators had fundamental differences in their translation. Translator A’s style in translating is more oriented to target text and target readers whereas Translators B are more inclined to adhere to the style of the original author and the source text.Key words: translator style, literary work, short storyAbstrak: Selama bertahun-tahun, banyak pihak yang meyakini bahwa seorang penerjemah yang baik seharusnya transparan dalam melakukan pekerjaannya. Oleh karena itu, gagasan mengenai gaya penerjemah muncul. Mempelajari dan mengeksplorasi topik mengenai gaya penerjemah akan memberikan dukungan yang lebih kuat pada pandangan bahwa penerjemah bukan sekadar cermin dari penulis asli; pada kenyataannya, mereka adalah individu yang kreatif dengan karakteristik dan perilaku linguistik yang berbeda, dan kegiatan penerjemahan itu tidak kalah penting dengan kegiatan menulis. There was also a lead to confusion of their ethnic identities, for those few who can't speak any local language. These youths are proud Indonesians, with their Indonesian languages. In this skill students have to master the text by recognizing the written words and understanding the meaning. In a reading session, students felt it was difficult to find information of the texts. It was because the texts are too long and complex to be understood, and the media used or the text is also not interesting. Their reading comprehension skill was still low. The average score of reading comprehension task was only 68.19%. in fact, there were 18 students out of 23 or 78,26% students were not able to achieve the minimum passing grade 75. To overcome this problem this research was conducted by employing comic strips as a media to improve students reading comprehension skill. The research questions are (1). How is the implementation of comic strips in the reading comprehension skill of narrative text to the 8th graders Junior High School? (2). How can comic strips improve the reading comprehension skill of the 8th graders Junior High School? The research is designed in Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects were the 23 students of the 8th graders Al-Hidayah Junior High School. There were two kinds of data gained; First teacher and students activities in the teaching and learning process, and students reflection on the use of comic strips in the class. Second is students score on reading comprehension task on the implementation of comic strips. A collaborator helped the researcher to observe the class and collect the data. The data were collected by observation and reading comprehension task. The implementation of comic strips was running well as on the planning stage. The observation showed that the students were easier on comprehending the text, so they could do their work and discuss their reading comprehension task. They got motivated and enjoyed the teaching learning process, and interest in reading was increased. The students reading comprehension skill was also improved. It can be seen by looking at the students score on the first meeting around 86.96% pass the minimum criteria with the mean score 78.48. Than on the second meeting all of the students or 100% got score more than 75 with the mean score 85.65. It means that all of them pass the minimum criterion that is 75. The result of this study showed that comic strips is applicable and practical to be applied in teaching reading comprehension.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"1941 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87756237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
