David Norris as the main character in the movie is believed to construe individualism. Therefore, this study aims to: (1) reveal the delineation of individualism in the movie through its linguistic data, (2) convey the interpretation of the relation between linguistic data and the discourse practice to reveal individualism in The Adjustment Bureau movie, and (3) explain why individualism exists in the movie. Further, this study applies qualitative method since the data are in form of clauses taken from the clauses of David Norris and the members of The Adjustment Bureau in the movie. In analyzing the data, it is used Fairclough three stages in critical discourse analysis; describing the text, interpreting the discursive practice, and explaining the sociocultural context. From the analysis, it reveals that David using his power through the use of linguistic choice succeed to defend his ideology.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84220852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On top of teaching styles, the role of motivation in mediating teaching dimensions and social behaviour is also a great concern. Ames (1992) mentions factors that need to be considered in relation to the motivational patterns namely achievement goals, classroom structures, tasks, evaluation and recognition, and authority. This paper aims at determining teaching styles and motivation strategies performed by teachers both in Frank McCourt’s Teacher Man (McCourt, 2005) and School of Rock , a film (Linklater, 2003).  It is a comparative study on McCourt’s Teacher Man and Linklater’s School of Rock film to examine the teaching styles and motivation strategies used by teachers in both literary works. It is found that McCourt was indeed a successful teacher dealing with various kinds of students with his persistent teaching style from time to time. In terms of motivation, Dewey had the leadership trait of creativity, the ability to think differently to find solutions.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"85 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77663324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study functions as a source of knowledge for everyone who wishes to comprehend the deeper issue of a secondary character existence in a movie who does not get enough recognition, unlike the main character. This study used collecting and observing methods to acquire the data, Black Panther movie along with the movie script. A Qualitative research method is used to answer the problems of the study. It examined Killmonger’s characterization by using three theories; tridimensional aspects, Black Nationalism, and Machiavellianism. Discussion of Black History counts as a great necessity to give a clearer sense of the character’s background who described as an African-American male. Lastly, a descriptive method to analyze the problems and present the analysis is chosen to complete this study. The results of this study found innovative discussions on a Machiavellian character on the parameters of self-determination, nationalism, and racial prejudice. Killmonger’s Machiavellian character is categorized to have “cold” emotionality, lack of empathy, and manipulative. The study results also delivered fundamental truths about the current political and cultural situation in the United States, in which people still seek persistence in their everyday lives based on racial boundaries reflected by Killmonger’s mission as an African-American.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"11 1","pages":"1-23"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84263933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study is a psychological study of literature, focusing on the psychological aspects and patterns of action of the revenge in the two detective novels entitled The Unexpected Guest and Five Little Pigs. The purposes of the study are: 1) to describe and to know the patterns of action of the revenge in Agatha Christie’s The Unexpected Guest and Five Little Pigs, 2) to find and describe psychological factors which are shaping the act of revenge in the two detective novels. Therefore the psychological approach is used to do the analysis in this study. The main data in this study were taken from the two detective novels. The theories applied include theory of formula of classic detective fiction (patterns of action) in detective story, theory of psychology especially Sigmund Freud personality theory, theory of plot structure in Dorothy L. Sayers’ Strong Poison and theory of pattern in Ten Little Indians. This study is written scientifically and used qualitative approach with psychology as the focus. The analysis was done by using the theories as the basis source to compare with findings. The use of theories in the analysis of the two detective novels shown that both analysis and the theories are matched. After doing the analysis based on the findings in this study, it reveals that both The Unexpected Guest and Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie share the same case of psychological revenge that is raised for the unfair treatments experienced by Laura Warwick and Caroline Crale as the murderer characters in the two detective novels. The result of the analysis shows that both detective novels contain five patterns of action of the revenge namely introduction of the detective, crime and clues, investigation, solution of the crime and denouement. As Freud’s personality theory reveals that Laura Warwick in The Unexpected Guest had five characteristics as psychological factors which are shaping her action of revenge to Richard Warwick. Those characteristics are depressing, grudge, greedy, submissive and brilliant. Meanhwile in Five Little Pigs, Caroline Crale also had five characteristics as psychological factors which are shaping her action of revenge to Amyas Crale. Those characteristics covered jealous, hurtful, betrayed, ill-tempered and desperate. In the end of this study, hopefully there are some other aspects that need to be investigated in Agatha Christie’s The Unexpected Guest and Five Little Pigs, such as the use of “may have, must have, could have and would have” in the two detective novels mentioned above.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83827289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It follows my field research trajectory on the island over a period of 34 years and analyzes the efforts of government interventions, non-government actors, and teachers and educational institutions in the transmission and sustainability of the arts. Interpretations indicate that a combination of globalization, urbanization, social media, everyday mediatization, and Islamization over recent decades negatively impacted traditional musics in specific ways, by problematizing sustainability. However, several agents–individuals inside and outside the government who understood the situation and had the foresight to take appropriate action–developed programs and organizations to maintain or aestheticize the performing arts, sustain musician livelihoods, and engage a new generation of male youth in music and dance. These efforts, supplemented by the formation of groups of leaders dedicated to the study of early culture on Lombok and fresh initiatives in music education, have ushered in new opportunities and visibility for traditional music and performing arts and performing artists.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44549590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
