Such kind of test brings serious consequence (impact) to some related parties like teachers, students, school systems, and society. This article is intended to highlight how different type of testing affects the teachers’ teaching practices in the classrooms. In Indonesian secondary schools, two types of tests, National Examination (NE) and School Examination (SE) are administered to measure students’ achievement in a particular level as well as to decide students’ graduation. The two tests are different at some points. First, the test for NE was developed and administered by the government through the Board of National Education Standard. Meanwhile, the preparation and administration of the test for SE were done by the English teachers at every school. Second, the test of NE was objective, whereas, the test of SE is subjective in which the students should perform speaking and writing. Using descriptive qualitative research design, the findings of this study revealed that the administration of the different types of tests brings different impacts on the preparation and classrooms practices in which the teachers were more enthusiastic and serious to prepare for the School Examination. It can also be concluded that a particular type of test which requires full involvement of the teachers either in the preparation or the administration brings positive impact on their classroom practices.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"8 1","pages":"222-243"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76664992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Female writers of dystopian literary works have increased in the past current years. The fact that the story of The Selection Series by Kiera Cass is narrated from a female perspective in a patriarchal country has drawn a connection to feminist study. This research used descriptive qualitative method and textual analysis that employed the theory of Ecriture feminine by Helene Cixous (1976) and patriarchy by Gerda Lerner (1986). It is found that two primary features of ecriture feminine , namely patriarchy and bisexual writing, are depicted in the novel as being interrelated. Patriarchy in the novel is mostly found in public sphere; therefore, a large amount of evidence of bisexual writing is found as responses to the patriarchal system. Three main forms of bisexual writing are found in the novel: negotiation, empowerment, and plurality. It seems that Kiera Cass successfully adapts ecriture feminine in her novel. However, the end of the story of The One (2014) also implies that the deconstruction of patriarchy occurs when there are acceptance and willingness, not only from women but also from men.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81381327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Coming to America during the great migration,  mostly from Eastern Europe, this Azkenazic Jews then contributed to the building and transformation of the Hollywood movies as a world icon.  Though quite dominant, Jews are quite careful in this industry. Anti-Semitism, the World War and the Great Depression are some of the things that make Jews uncomfortable about being in the spotlight or talking about their identity among the Christian audience of the movies. However, the condition changed after the Second World War and the civil rights movement in the 1960s. Jews and Judaism later appeared in various representations, which does not only change their image in Hollywood, but also the acceptance of American society broadly. Focusing on the movie, Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1959) as the object of research, the study explores how Jewish people represent themselves through films produced, including the negotiations and changes made as part of the American Jews. Using the theory of Stuart Hall’s Politics of Representation and Critical Discourse Analysis from Fairclough and Leuween as an approach, this work focuses on the analysis of text and images as a sign that represents the Jews and Judaism in the movie. Related to movie as a media construction, the filmmakers are able to reconstruct Jews in different image. Through the movie, the represented Jews are found to have conveyed various messages to the audience about their cultural and religious identity.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"50 4 1","pages":"202-221"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91062874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cyber language is replete with writing errors that are not conventionally acceptable in academic writing and which can impede comprehension in some cases. As teenage participation in this new media increases, this study investigated the impact of chat language on the written composition of senior secondary school students who are prospective candidates for O’level and or A’level examinations. Data were generated from the students’ written essay scripts and analysed using Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar as the theoretical framework. The study adopted the quantitative and qualitative research methods in which 842 senior secondary 2 and 3 (SS2 and SS3) students of selected schools in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, are the population. The result revealed that online chat language and text-based messages mostly affect students’ writings in mechanical accuracy and expression. The study therefore recommended that the negative effects of the social media on the students’ writings should be checked in schools.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"21 1","pages":"316-336"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83030475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The activities which can be implemented in PBL are discussion, conversation, presentation (individual or group), role-play, and others.  It also can be an aid in studying and teaching. Based on previous research, using PBL technique can improve students’ speaking ability for second graders of SMPN 1 Kawedanan, Magetan by Permatasari (2013). Because of that, the researcher implements the teaching of speaking using PBL at SMK Dian Indonesia, Sidoarjo. The descriptive qualitative is used as a design of this research. The subject of the research is 20 first-grade students of nursery class, from the academic year 2015/2016. There are three instruments used to collect the data. First is the documentation of related lesson plan and syllabus, second is the observation of field-notes, third is a questionnaire for the students. PBL in teaching speaking is found helpful to regulate students’ ideas and stimulates the group presenter to extend the statement using their own words. PBL was interesting for them, because the researcher gives occasion for them to choose their own topics. They found themselves interested, happy, joyful, and comfortable during the implementation of the PBL because the process of teaching and learning is designed appropriately with the students’ ideas. To gain an effective teaching speaking using PBL, students needed to be active in making collaborative discussions, and giving feedbacks to each other, so that they can build social relationship. The PBL activities have made students build knowledge and think critically.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46468019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both novels carry the same issues; they portray African struggle to escape from exploitation of capitalism and neo-colonialism. Thus, the objectives of this study are: 1) analyzing the class exploitations described in Ngugi wa Thiong’O’s Petals of Blood and Devil on the Cross, 2) analyzing the struggles of proletariat against neo-colonialism and imperialism described in Ngugi wa Thiong’O’s Petals of Blood and Devil on the Cross, and 3) analyzing the final result of proletariat struggle in both novels based on the concept of Marxism. The theory used in this study was theory of class exploitation and class struggle of Marxism. Hence, the collected data were analyzed qualitatively by focusing on the Marxist perspectives. The findings of this study were elaborated into three points, consisted of class exploitation, proletariat struggle and the final result of proletariat struggle. First, the finding shows that the story depicted in both novels significantly reflects Marxist perspectives about class exploitation. Second, the story depicted in both novels significantly reflects Marxist perspectives about proletariat struggle. Third, the reflection of Marxist visions about proletariats’ accomplishment is presented differently in both novels. In Petals of Blood, the collective struggle of proletariat was ended before they achieved their vision of the proletariat dictatorship, resulted perpetual proletariat dreams to achieve a classless society. Contrary, in Devil on the Cross, the collective struggle of proletariat was ended up with a victory portrayed by the freedom achieved by the proletariat and the death of capitalist leaders. This last finding shows that story depicted in Petals of Blood does not reflects Marxist perspectives especially the idea of the dictatorship of proletariat while the story depicted in Devil on the Cross reflects Marxist perspectives especially the concept of a dictatorship of proletariat as a golden way to manifest classless society. Overall, both novels denote a typical color and character of struggle that inspire people to realize that total liberation is a right of every human being. It is a must to keep a nation for being away from imperialist-neo-colonialism supposed to achieve a real nationalism. There is no more beautiful than a life without “Exploitation de l’ homme par l’ homme and exploitation de nation par nation”.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83322567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper examines how the nature of female sexuality is constructed and misrepresented by male hegemonic structure to subjugate and control women. The analysis uses a qualitative methodology in the form of the close reading of the text. It is a multidisciplinary study cutting across the disciplines of lesbian feminism, psychology, physiology, sexology, and psychiatry and attempts to investigate as to how female orgasm has previously been considered in an inadequate way. It tries to vindicate how female sexuality has politically been treated and how there exists a relationship between female sexuality and male domination. The paper also offers a very candid critique of female orgasm, female sexuality, the meaning of sexual pleasure, the vaginal orgasm, the clitoral orgasm, and different other forms of female orgasm. In the postmodern era, the main issue of gender equality is replaced by a category of sexuality. This paper provides an overview that sex in society revolves around the pleasure of men and women’s sexual desire is constructed according to the male interests.  The result of the study reveals that extreme gender bias never lets women speak about their own sex lives. The analysis is intended to create awareness and education for both men and women about sexual pleasure and counter the previous misconceptions and doubts about female orgasm and female sexuality.","PeriodicalId":31698,"journal":{"name":"Celt A Journal of Culture English Language Teaching Literature","volume":"641 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72553976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because in general, women engage in sexual relations on the basis of love and as an expression of feelings of love towards their partners. When found by individual women with promiscuity behavior, it becomes interesting to look more deeply.The theory used to analyze is Theory by Kartono and McleishThe research methods used in this thesis are qualitative methods and library research.
