For example, in English, ‘breakfast’ and ‘lunch’ are joined to become ‘brunch’. While studies of blends usually focus on the morphological aspect, this study aims at describing the phonological aspects of blend formation, particularly the syllable formation of Indonesian blends. Moreover, the phonological constraints for blend formation are also investigated. The data were obtained from observing blending words used in daily conversations, as well as in media such as television and online news. To gather the data, the researcher asked each of her 20 students to find five samples of Indonesian blends. As a result, as many as 100 Indonesian blends were found. The data were then categorized based on their syllable structures and the phonological constraints for blend formation were analyzed using optimality theory. The results showed that blending words can be categorized into six types, which are (CVC+CVC), (CV+CVC), (CV+CVC), (V+CVC), (CV+CV), and (VC+CVC). For example, the second type (CV + CVC) ‘mager’ is formed from the first part of the first source word and the first part of the second source word as in ‘malas’ and ‘gerak’. Moreover, there are some possible constraints that make a new blend acceptable or unacceptable in Indonesian, such as the recognizability of blend from its source words and the semantic similarity of the blend with the already existing word. For example, the word ‘mantul’ is acceptable blend of mantap + betul, since ‘mantul’ already exists but it has different meaning. The results of this study imply that forming new words by blending the already existed words is still possible, but their acceptance or usage depend on the users’ familiarity with phonological knowledge.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"164 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140476078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examined the authorship of electronic texts using a quantitative method based on forensic stylistics and computer technologies. This study uses 300 digital texts produced by 100 authors, including 100 questioned texts (Q-text) and 200 known texts (K-text). Personal texts of WhatsApp messages are used in this study as electronic texts. Authorship analysis was conducted by tracing the n-gram and testing all the text sets using the Similarity Comparison Method (SCM). Based on the results of the word 1-gram test, the SCM accuracy was found to be quite high, ranging from 85% to 96%. The findings of employing the tiny set are promising, with the various stylistic traits offering dependable accuracy ranging from 92% to 98.5%. The character-level n-gram tracing indicates a key feature of authorship attribution.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"333 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140473635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Temuan dari penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pencerahan, apakah kelompok bahasa Massenrempulu merupakan satu bahasa tunggal, bagian dari Toraja-Sa’dan atau Bugis. Penelitian ini menggunakan Recorded Text Test (RTT) yang diperkenalkan oleh Casad (1974), Picture Pointing Task (PicTask) oleh Gooskens & Schneider (2016), serta lexicostatistics of 35-word lists dari Grimes & Grimes (1987) dan SIL Indonesia (1986). Temuan dari penelitian ini sebagai berikut: (1) Statistik kemiripan kosakata menunjukkan bahwa bahasa Duri lebih mirip dengan Toraja, bahasa Malimpung lebih mirip dengan Bugis, sedangkan bahasa Enrekang dan Maiwa memiliki kesalingmengertian yang tinggi; (2) RTT menunjukkan bahwa tingkat pemahaman kelompok bahasa Massenrempulu terhadap Duri tidak terlalu tinggi (<80%); penutur bahasa Maiwa dan Enrekang memperoleh skor sebesar 76-77%, sedangkan dalam uji kesalingmengertian rata-rata penutur bahasa Malimpung memperoleh skor sebesar 62%; (3) mayoritas penutur bahasa Massenrempulu lebih mengerti bahasa Enrekang (>74%) dibandingkan dengan Duri (59-72%). Penulis menyimpulkan bahwa bahasa Enrekang dan Maiwa memiliki kesalingmengertian dan dapat dikategorikan sebagai satu bahasa. Bahasa Malimpung disarankan untuk menjadi bagian dari bahasa Bugis karena memiliki kesalingmengertian yang rendah terhadap kelompok bahasa Massenrempulu. Walaupun demikian, karena keterbatasan penelitian ini, diperlukan kajian lebih lanjut terkait kesalingmengertian bahasa-bahasa daerah di Sulawesi Selatan bagian utara secara keseluruhan untuk melihat seberapa jauh kesalingmengertian antara bahasa Malimpung dan Bugis serta bahasa Duri dan Toraja.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"297 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140473491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our study aims to investigate ways in which he responds to others’ positioning and repositions himself to fit in a particular circumstance under certain dominant power. The results show five domains of identities that may be subject to negotiation: linguistic, ethnic, cultural, role, and social identities. We argue that in colonial Indonesia some identities are negotiable while others are forcefully imposed. Kwee’s translingual practice performed both in writing and in daily life has acquired him a space to fully express his non-negotiable identities. Our study shows how his translingual practice serves as a mediational tool to better negotiate identities, especially in a multilingual environment.   ","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131302284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data yang dianalisis dalam artikel ini berupa empat buah teks pataniti. Landasan teori yang dipakai dalam artikel ini ialah antropologi linguistik yang dikemukakan oleh Duranti (1997) dan pandangan dunia yang dikemukakan oleh William Underhill (2011). Metode penelitian yang digunakan ialah metode etnografi. Artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa pandangan dunia orang Hitu mengenai keperkasaan, karisma, dan kepercayaan spiritual ditandai dengan keberadaan nama-nama tokoh yang dibentuk melalui serangkaian proses sosiohistoris dalam kebudayaan Islam dan kebudayaan Hitu. Selain itu, artikel ini juga menemukan bahwa pataniti sebagai praktik bahasa dan budaya lokal sejatinya dibentuk melalui proses pertukaran dan pertemuan nilai yang inklusif dari berbagai kebudayaan di luar Kepulauan Maluku. Terakhir, pataniti sebagai tradisi lisan dan praktik kebudayaan dapat menjadi alternatif dalam diskursus kebahasaan dan kebudayaan di Kepulauan Maluku.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125424203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wilayah ini secara topografis merupakan wilayah yang bergunung-gunung dan curam dengan lembah yang sempit dan sungai-sungai yang besar serta tingkat kesulitan wilayah yang sangat tinggi. Dengan kondisi wilayah geografis yang demikian, masyarakat Yali memiliki pengetahuan mengenai kondisi topografi dan distribusi masyarakatnya pada wilayah topografis yang berbeda tersebut. Wilayah topografi yang dikenal oleh masyarakat Yali dinamakan humli dan tabui. Merujuk pada wilayah topografi, sufiks -mu/-mo/-ma, yang merupakan variasi alofonik, melekat pada kata, yaitu tabui-mu dan humli-mu untuk memberikan makna ‘tempat/lokasi,’ yang bermakna ‘tempat panas/hangat’ dan ‘tempat dingin/sejuk.’ Hubungan semantik, morfologi, dan sintaksis membuat kata dasar humli dan tabui memiliki aksesibilitas untuk mendapat imbuhan atau konstituen lain yang juga berkontribusi pada perluasan makna secara internal tetapi tidak mengubah kata dasar. Pada tataran pragmatik, makna kata humli dan tabui juga diperluas mengingat sistem tatanan hidup masyarakat Yali yang rumit dan abstrak. Dengan menggunakan konsep pragmatik common ground dan perangkat konteks, kedua kata ini dimaknai berdasarkan konteks penggunaannya yang bersumber dari faktor-faktor non-linguistik seperti pengetahuan geografis/topografis, botani, dan zoology, serta konsep manusia yang kemudian membentuk konsep ideologi dan religi.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116939432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Language shift and maintenance are two common and interesting phenomena to study in a multilingual society. Studies focusing on language on shift and maintenance in Indonesia have been conducted for two decades. Nevertheless, limited studies have been found regarding the language of co-existing ethnics who have lived in Indonesia for more than two generations, such as Arabic or Chinese. Chinese descents in Indonesia speak Chinese languages/dialects, such as Hakka, Teochew, and Hokkien (CHL, hereafter). This study aims to explore the CHL language shift and maintenance in the Chinese community and the contributing factors to the phenomena. This research adopted a mixed-method approach. The data were collected from 100 respondents who reside in West Jakarta and North Jakarta. The data were collected using a questionnaire adapted from Cohn et al. (2013) and Ryan and Giles’s (1982) language indexes and in-depth interviews. The questionnaire data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The result showed that the majority of Jakartan Chinese Indonesian have shifted to Indonesian, and only 9% of them still fully maintain the use of CHL in the family. English is more frequently used and mixed with Indonesian. This study found that the contributing factors of language shift are the language’s domains and functionality and the family background. It was found that parents’ place of birth or origin, parents’ first language, parents’ language attitude and policy at home, the language contact with the extended family, and how the extended family values CHL are influential for language shift. The result implied an alarm for CHL loss in the Jakartan Chinese community.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116884410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Couched within the Construction Grammar and Frame Semantics theories, the analyses revealed that each verb differs regarding the profiled semantic roles within the preferred grammatical constructions the verb occurs in. Menawari strongly profiles Offerer, Potential_recipient and Theme in Double-Object Construction, while menawarkan only profiles Offerer and Theme in Monotransitive Construction. Although the quantitative findings confirm the theoretical hypothesis of the constructional behaviours for menawari/menawarkan, the study also discovers previously unpredicted constructional variation for menawari. Such variation (i) has a typological implication concerning the grammatical alignments of trivalent verbs and (ii) raises an intriguing question regarding constructional contamination by the constructional profile of the more frequent form (i.e., menawarkan) that is paradigmatically related to menawari.","PeriodicalId":221379,"journal":{"name":"Linguistik Indonesia","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114417639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
