The expansion of bentonite clays is a difficult control process whereas any change in humidity or density can accelerate this happening. Paving works in specific regions such as the Amazon have difficulty to be performed due the predominant soil kind in their territory, and the large presence of rivers. The main characteristics of clay minerals are described in the article, as well as their interactions with cement and/or synthetic zeolite. We sought a practical case of soil-cement pavement from the Amazon region to compare the results with others authors and evaluate their use with high activity clays. Albuquerque","doi":"10.4322/cobramseg.2022.0275","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4322/cobramseg.2022.0275","url":null,"abstract":": In this paper, it was studied the behavior of 310 mm diameter Hollow Auger Piles, with a drilled length of 28 m, 22 m and 15 m, in Pelotas, RS, Brazil, through the analyses of the results of five Dynamic Load Testings. This paper’s goal, therefore, is to analyze the CAPWAP results and compare to semi-empirical methods: Lizzi (1982), Décourt & Quaresma (1996), Aoki & Velloso (1975) and Teixeira (1996). With that in mind, the calculations were made using the pre-determined coefficients from each method for Root Piles, Continuous Flight Auger Piles and Bored Piles, which had executive similarities with the studied pile. Adopting the ultimate loads obtained in the dynamic load tests as reference, it was found that these values were close to some of the values provided by the formulas. However, it was considered that these methods were developed based on static load tests, which do not always present the same values as the dynamic load tests. On average, it was observed that the calculations as Root Piles and Continuous Flight Auger Piles presented results, respectively, 80% and 20% higher. As for Bored Piles, the results were close to what was expected. A proposta ora apresentada demonstrou instalação e desempenho promissores no controle de erosão, com potencial para obras de revegetação de superfícies com alto ângulo de inclinação e com solos extremamente degradados, onde soluções convencionais têm pouco ou nenhum sucesso. ABSTRACT: Considering the importance of mining for the Brazilian economy, as well as the current regulatory scenario for the closure of mines, one must bear in mind, inseparably, the need to promote the restoration of areas degraded by mining. Therefore, preventive measures or rehabilitation of these areas need to be adopted, since the impacts generated can be immeasurable. In order to instigate reforestation and inhibit erosion, it was proposed to apply a product composed of galvanized screens with retaining bands, made from geosynthetics. After ten years of exposure, the constituent elements of the installed product were exhumed to assess the integrity of the system after the exposure period. As an alternative solution for unpavement secondary roads projects, lime stabilized soils has been proposed. In many cases, fine content limits established in local regulations are exceded, and the original soil composition needs to be modified to ensure a long-term stability under construction and operation phases. To establish the physical and mechanical behaviour of lime stabilizated soils, basic laboratory tests were performed in order to establish the optimum range design of these modified materials. California Bearing Ratio tests (CBR) and direct shear tests in remoulded compacted samples have been performed to check the resistance changes for compacted soil samples and compacted samples with lime additions. In order to achieve these goals, the city of Paulino Neves MA was defined as study site, where standard penetration tests (SPT) and lateral load tests were performed. P-y curves were estimated for depths of 0,25 m, 0,50 m, 1,0 m and 2,5 m, and results from four continuous fligth auger piles of 600 mm diameter, with sizes ranging between 16,96 m and 27,0 m, all adjacent on granular soil, were used in this analysis. The rock mass strength, obtained from Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS), tests contributes to the rock mass characterization and is essential for guiding underground mines and open pits in terms of design parameters, numerical modeling and stope design. Due to it is importance, geomechanical tests are conducted in a Rock Mechanics internal laboratory of AngloGold Ashanti's operations in Crixás - Goiás - Brazil, where strength values from different rocks are obtained, forming a significant database. This study aims to determinate representative strength values, from each lithology from Ingá Mine, considering the disruptions that occur in the intact rock and in discontinuities, in addition to understanding the variables that can influence coefficient of variation, mean, boxplot and median, in order to eliminate outliers and define trends. One of the most important factors involved in this type of instability is the contact between layers of banded iron formation and carbonaceous schist, which occurs along the orebody hanging wall. Several actions have been taken as a joint effort between Operations, Planning, Rock Mechanics and Geology aimed at improving stope stability. Among them is leaving temporary rib pillars, which are later recovered after sublevel rockfilling.
