Therefore, in this paper, we propose an inter-vehicle communication system, operating on android smart phone by using Wi-Fi. To substitute 802.11p onboard unit (OBU) before its widespread use on modern vehicles. Experiment results shows that our system can not only be easily installed in any android devices (android 2.3 and above) but is also more suitable for vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) scenario than other systems.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131142331","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

How to collect traffic information and make path planning decisions accordingly are two major problems. Existing works have addressed these issues using centralized or infrastructure based traffic collection approaches. However, existing works have certain weaknesses on efficiency and effectiveness. This paper introduced a novel dynamic vehicular path planning solution. The proposed solution does not rely on infrastructures to collect traffic information. Meanwhile, It utilizes density-speed traffic flow model to predict the traffic condition. In addition, a dynamic candidate path selection algorithm is developed to reduce the redundant data collection overhead. Extensive evaluations using large scale traffic trace based simulation have been performed. The results show that our solution outperforms some existing solutions in terms of communication efficiency and path planning effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131316978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sybil attack refers to impersonation of one physical entity for many, namely Sybil nodes. Such attacks may cause dire consequences such as traffic jams or even deadly accidents. We leverage pseudonymless beaconing in order to preserve privacy. To cope with the Sybil attack, we put forth a two fold strategy. For scheduled beacons, we mploy TRM (Tamper Resistant Module) to perform a lightweight pre-assembly data analysis on beacons whereas for ERMs (Event Reporting Messages), RSUs distribute authorized tokens among benign vehicular nodes which in turn are consumed to report ERM. Our proposed scheme preserves privacy in both beacons and ERMs, and offers conditional anonymity.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127738484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the bandwidth limitation can not fulfil the communication requirement from increasing number of electronic components in vehicles. We propose to divide the nodes on the CAN buses into clusters. Communication cycles include the intra and inter communication time for transferring messages inside and between the clusters. The proposed method is called ClusterCAN which is a cyclic communication method based on CAN. ClusterCAN can transmit numerous messages simultaneously under proper clustering to enhance throughput. We provide the design concept of the bus segmentation and communication cycle for parallel transmission for the proposed ClusterCAN. Furthermore, the worst case response time analysis of the ClusterCAN is derived and used in the simulations. From the experimental results, the schedulable messages increase 50% and 75% under two and three clustering groups with the fixed inter connection ratio (10%) compared to the normal CAN.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121248885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The communication between all systems, which are involved in order to control the battery charging processes or enable flexible billing of charging operations, becomes an important factor in acceptance of electric mobility. It will be a highly distributed infrastructure in a multi-vendor, multi-network and multi-service environment with spatially separated and partially mobile components. The challenge is to ensure interoperability of such systems, consisting of different charge point operators, electrical grid components and multitude electric vehicles, through standardized data structures and reliable communication protocols. This paper describes an approach for protocol-aware interoperability testing of standardized Vehicle to Grid (V2G) communication interfaces based on a TTCN-3 testing infrastructure. This approach allows to evaluate the interoperability of such communication systems with appropriate testing methods and to build an experimental Automatic Test Equipment.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"316 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121348316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One method of improving fuel consumption is to improve driver behaviour, since eco-driving techniques can help save 10-15% of fuel. A retro-fittable driver behaviour improvement device has been developed and tested in real world conditions. The device provides real-time audio and visual feedback to the driver to improve his/her driving style. It was tested on 15 vans belonging to various companies in the UK and over 39,000km of data was collected. It was observed that use of the device saved an average 7.6% of fuel. Further analysis showed that the savings were obtained as a result of improvement in driving behaviour through reduction in harsh accelerations and early gear shifting into higher gears. There was also a reduction in the pedal busyness of drivers with the system fitted. A model was created using the data obtained to predict the fuel savings that can be achieved if the device is fitted onto a new vehicle.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131409071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
