Beaconing, i.e. periodic broadcasting of status messages by each vehicle, is a core communication pattern which all the critical vehicular safety applications rely on. A set of IEEE 802.11p/WAVE (Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments) protocols is specially designed to support vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Notwithstanding, many studies raise the scalability problem of 802.11p carrier sense multiple access, which makes it impossible for the protocol to guarantee the required performance in dense road traffic scenarios. Thus, existing cellular broadband wireless access (BWA) infrastructure, e.g. 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE), IEEE 802.16e (Mobile WiMAX), can be considered as an additional opportunity to support vehicular cooperative safety applications. In this paper we introduce a simple stochastic model for the evaluation of the BWA network used for the beaconing. This model can serve as an easy tool to understand the theoretical limits of different BWA technologies in intelligent transportation systems use cases.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"197 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123016421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Misra worked out the expected congestion window size while the round-trip time (RTT) was a constant. However, in this paper, the expected congestion window size and some analytical results are obtained theoretically while RTT varies as an ordinary or a stochastic function. The introduction of stochastic processes for modeling RTT helps to understand the window-size behavior in congestion networks in a brand-new way.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123213578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traffic sensor data gathered by large amounts of transportation sensors shows the massive, continuous, streaming and probabilistic characteristics compared to traditional data. In order to satisfy the requirements of different traffic sensor data applications, the capability of real-time processing for massive traffic sensor data is emergently needed. In this paper, a Real-Time Processing System (shorted as RTPS), which adopts the decentralized distributed architecture to support the parallel processing of traffic sensor data, is presented with a case study of a real world application about vehicle license plate recognition data. And the parallel computing model behind RTPS and corresponding programing interface are proposed. The experiment based on application of vehicle license plate recognition data shows that our system has good scalability and the processing performance increases in linear progression as the number of processing nodes increases.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125532371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All of these servos are small in size and driven by pulse width modulated (PWM) signals. In the model to control a miniature unmanned helicopter, the swashplate is a very important module. This paper proposes a partial linear method to calibrate the swashplate of an eCCPM helicopter. The method linearizes the mechanism of swashplate and obtains a calibration matrix. The goal is to achieve the conversion calculation between PWM signals and the output angles of swashplate, which contain the collective pitch angle, the elevator angle and the aileron angle. This paper utilizes image recognition technology to measure the output angles of swashplate. Experimental results show that this partial linear calibration method has small error and no singularity, and performs excellently in actual flight.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117222156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While edge detection on intensity images has gained much popularity in the past, it usually results in noisy binary images. Most noticeably, the color information of the scene that may provide an important cue for lane detection has not been genuinely considered. In this paper, we propose a novel color-based lane detection system. Although color-based schemes have their fair share of issues, including varying illumination conditions, by relying on a lane mark color predictor obtained from an offline supervised training of Gaussian radial basis function (GRBF) networks, such issues can be appropriately overcome. Experimental results have demonstrated that the proposed approach, in contrast to predominantly edge-based approaches, can effectively eliminate erroneous edges that do not belong to the lane marks in well-structured scenes.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121100783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is possible because ultracapacitors can deliver large amount of power in short periods of time and their shelf life is longer than other conventional storage elements. For designing a high performance electric vehicle capable to run a quarter of a mile in 10 seconds, it was decided to use several modular ultracapacitors that have lower voltage levels than motors requirements. In these conditions, it is needed an efficient DC-DC converter which can manage the required power and energy to be delivered to electric motors, assuring the needed voltage and current levels. This work shows a design of a DC-DC converter that interface ultracapacitors and motors in a high performance electric vehicle. This design was possible by performing a power loss analysis, a component calculation and a simulation validation.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128264953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Neither classical failure assumptions nor multipoint protocols at the core of existing communication standards can be considered, since they do not meet the high reliability and strict timeliness requirements set for safety-critical scenarios. We introduce a novel unbounded omission failure model, the concept of proxy sets which builds on the cohort construct, and Zebra, a suite of geocast, convergecast, and multicast protocols specifically designed for safety-critical 1-hop multipoint communications. Analytical expressions of worst-case termination time bounds are given for each Zebra protocol, which is mandatory with safety requirements. These results have a number of practical implications, which are discussed. They should be of interest to safety authorities and to the transportation industry involved in future deployments of intelligent vehicular networks.","PeriodicalId":182453,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131181061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
