A total of 43 sophomores in China participated in two essay writing activities where they received feedback from a native English-speaking teacher (NEST). This quasi-experimental study included 20 students in the experimental group receiving video feedback and 23 students in the control group receiving e-written feedback. Students' writing performance was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test due to the small sample size. The results of the quantitative analysis of students' pretest and posttest writing scores indicated that their writing proficiency significantly improved in the two groups. The effectiveness of receiving different modes of feedback was not significantly different in the writing posttest scores between the two groups. The findings suggested that both video and e-written feedback provided by the NEST were equal in enhancing EFL learners' essay writing quality.","PeriodicalId":172046,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127526788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates the students’ satisfaction toward the English course in certain junior middle schools, with the instruments of questionnaire and interview (including interview via phone calls). Trying to be as scientific as possible, we checked the validity and reliability of the questionnaire through statistics software (in this study SPSS especially). It is generally connoted that students are satisfied with the designated course, and meanwhile show an affirmative attitude toward their own second language acquisition experience. In addition to what has been mentioned above, students show a positive perception and attitude toward blended learning, which involves both online and offline experience of language learning. It is obvious from the result of interview that this new style of teaching and learning is much welcomed among the students, possibly related to its nature of being internet-based and multimedia assisted.","PeriodicalId":172046,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121588175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study reports the preferences of students for online teaching, collaboration, and assessment using survey data gathered after a lengthy period of full online delivery and at a time when students were free to choose conventional, online and hybrid approaches to learning, collaboration and assessment. Most previous research has explored student preferences with respect to specific courses or at the institutional level, but the present study examines students’ preferences with respect to their discipline: arts, science and technology, business, hospitality and mathematics. Analyses revealed that students prefer conventional lectures providing that recordings are made available online, but that students prefer small group teaching, collaborative work, assessment, support and other activities to be delivered conventionally. These preferences were broadly similar across students drawn from the different discipline areas, but there was also some variation between the disciplines. Overall the findings suggest that students prefer conventional on-campus teaching, learning and assessment to full online delivery.","PeriodicalId":172046,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology","volume":"351 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115972989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The construction and implementation of a scientific, complete and systematic evaluation system of secondary colleges in colleges and universities, can contribute to the construction of \"Double First-class\" in China, and provide theoretical and practical references for the construction of \"A Powerful Country in Higher Education\". This paper reviews the research status of the performance evaluation of secondary colleges at home and abroad, and analyzes the problems in the performance evaluation of secondary colleges in China. Besides, we study the factors affecting the performance evaluation from external policy environment factors, internal governance institutional factors, natural social environment factors and personal factors and then establish the performance evaluation index system of secondary colleges. Based on the analysis mentioned above, the analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method are used to determine the evaluation model to comprehensively evaluate the performance of the secondary colleges. Then we propose the guarantee measures for the implementation of the performance evaluation of the secondary colleges based on objective management from three aspects.","PeriodicalId":172046,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology","volume":"155 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114705015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A singlesubject could have three to four types of assessments which causes university students to have up to sixteen assessments in a semester. The huge amounts of assessments have posed a risk to students whereby they are overburdened with repetitive assessments. Therefore, we implemented a project-based joint assessment in this study whereby one project is shared between two second-year subjects. This project is further broken down into four smaller assessments to achieve parts of the learning outcomes of both subjects. There is a total of 160 university students included for data analysis. Results showed that project-based joint assessment is feasible in higher education as it enhances active involvement of the students, promotes deep-level learning and fulfils learning outcomes. It also helps to alleviate stress among students as well as fostering a closer bonding between teammates despite having virtual classes due to the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":172046,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Education and Multimedia Technology","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130913990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
