The LMS semantics has to be raised in order to enhance the pedagogical expressiveness of the produced models. This paper deals with the proposition of a specific LMS-centered approach for abstracting the LMS low-level arameterizations and turning them into higher-level pedagogical building blocks. We choose to present and illustrate our propositions about the Moodle LMS.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127078012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To understand student disaffection in such learning environments, this article used course review data from more than 2,390 students who completed, currently taking, or partially completed/dropped out from at least one of 8 highly-rated MOOCs. The five main reasons were: peer review activities, forum-related issues, unhappiness about the claims or perceived biases in the teachings, a dislike of reading academic papers, and assignment-related issues. These reasons yield complementary information that could help us understand student engagement in large scale online learning more comprehensively.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126211675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One challenge here is to combine fruitfully analyses at different levels, ranging between gaze information, deliberate problem-solving actions, and complex collaborative interactions. Our analysis uses automated computation of gaze measures, domain activities, and qualitative manual coding to establish a mixed-method combination of analysis. We present our results of an empirical lab study of a collaborative puzzle-solving in different conditions of gaze awareness for the collaboration partners.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128125026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An empirical study was conducted with 19 groups of university students working on computer virus prevention tasks. The results indicated that self-regulation, co-regulation, and socially shared regulation occurred during collaborative learning. However, socially shared regulation occurred most and socially shared regulation was positively related to cognitive outcomes. In addition, different kinds of regulatory behaviors including setting goals, making plans, enacting strategies, monitoring, and evaluation were involved in during collaborative learning. The implications of the findings for educators and practitioners are discussed in detail.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124865607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These resources are increasingly built upon the Semantic Web, powered by the development and deployment of ontologies. After experimenting the automatic creation of domain ontologies from educational reference books and their use within semantic wikis, we have envisaged the development of applications that allow learners to harness the potential of semantic tools, providing recommended paths for content discovery and effective learning. These applications address issues observed within educational contexts, notably within our institution. The applications will provide learners with a supplementary resource to provide support to those seeking increasingly tailor-made learning experiences.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"36 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123510897","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To enhance people awareness about drugs, several approaches were adopted to deliver anti-drug materials. However, limitations were observed in these approaches. Thus, this study develops a game-based anti-drug system (GADS), which incorporates game-based learning into anti-drug materials. In order to get a complete understanding of whether the GADS is suitable to both non-addictive users and addictive users, an empirical study was conducted. Drug experience was considered as a target to investigate learners' reactions to the GADS. The results indicated that non-addictive learners had better game performance and learning performance than addictive learners because addictive learners' working memory was negatively affected by drugs.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122772987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Job-hunting process is very unique in Japan. Students should begin the job hunting in their junior year and it takes 8.9 months on average. A questionnaire survey reveals that top two anxieties that international students have are language-related and lack of information. In order to reduce these anxieties, we propose career support system using SCROLL. The result of its pilot evaluation demonstrates that the users benefited from the system and that it will be expected to contribute to the solution of the two anxieties, while it reveals some user unfriendliness in its interface. Our future works include its improvement as well as the refinement of its message and recommendation functions.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123218548","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we introduce an intelligent, adaptive and adaptable learning environment for Java programming called FIT Java Tutor. The learning environment integrates several pedagogical approaches in order to help learners learn programming considering individual needs. For testing purposes, we prepared a set of learning resources consisting of video tutorials, programming tasks, quizzes and multiple-choice tests, and deployed the learning system in an introductory programming class at Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin.
