Analyzing comment data written by students after each lesson helps to grasp their learning attitudes and situations. They can be a powerful source of data for all forms of assessment. In the current study, we break down student comments into different topics by employing two topic models: Probabilistic Latent Semantic Analysis (PLSA), and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), to discover the topics that help to predict final student grades as their performance. The objectives of this paper are twofold: First, determine how the three time-series items: P-, C- and N-comments and the difficulty of a subject affect the prediction results of final student grades. Second, evaluate the reliability of predicting student grades by considering the differences between prediction results of two consecutive lessons. The results obtained can help to understand student behavior during the period of the semester, grasp prediction error occurred in each lesson, and achieve further improvement of the student grade prediction.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"146 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116484811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, smart campuses in developing countries have become a exceptionally large part of the education market because numerous high-tech system and platform companies use their products to provide a total solution in the field of ICT. This study developed an approach for evaluating product or service features that are key drivers of customer satisfaction. A method for integrating service quality model (SERVQUAL) and importance-performance analysis was developed for providing enterprises with services and suggestions that are effectively integrated.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127031433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the size of the learner population and the heterogeneity of the learners' backgrounds make conventional one-size-fits-all pedagogies inappropriate. We propose a conceptual model - educational resource linking with the goal of satisfying various learning needs by building a rich platform integrating abundant and open online resources. With this model, resources could be organized around a shared curriculum, and materials on the same topic are cross-linked for recommendation. This idea may improve the efficiency in utilizing and digesting scattered knowledge. As a first step, we conducted a case study using crowd-sourcing techniques, and found that learners, especially novices, can search learning materials faster without sacrificing accuracy, when using an interface with linked learning resources, as compared to a traditional, monolithic one.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132281773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To take full advantage of these resources requires a simple, direct and effective access to those resources that are of interest, therefore, it is necessary that those resources are ordered or ranked based on some criteria?-that is to say, they have to be classified. Classification is usually done manually by the resource provider, which directly implies a main problem: the time spent categorising resources. In this paper we propose a solution to this problem through the design and implementation of a multi-label classifier that enables the automatic classification of a set of educational resources in their most suitable category or categories, thus eliminating the need to manually perform this classification. Evaluation results show that the performance of the OER classifier is comparable to classification of a de-facto standard corpus: OHSUMED.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116900953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mental rotation (MR) is a substantial part of spatial abilities. In a previous work we described a three-hour computer based 3D MR training module and showed that it improves MR skills of first year engineering undergraduates. In this paper, we present a study on the effectiveness of a two-week computer based 3D MR training on students' problem solving skills in ED. We performed a two-group experimental study and found that students who learned via computer based 3D MR training performed significantly better on ED posttests than students who learned the same concepts via traditional instruction. Responses of experimental group students on an open ended question revealed that they found the 3D MR training to be useful in resolving their ED problem solving difficulties.","PeriodicalId":170914,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 15th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies","volume":"111 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131580468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of electronic books (e-books) is one of these changes, however, it is given the slower than expected growth. In other words, there is few complete consideration for using e-books materials into education. Therefore, this study proposes a framework to consider how to transfer the traditional textbooks into electronic textbooks called e-textbooks. Then, this framework also considers how to apply these e-textbooks into the classroom and individual learning in order to create a smart learning environment for teachers and students. This smart learning environment can offer not only rich interactive multimedia via tablets but also provide personalized adaptivity to each student.
