In fact, creative users of language are aware of the striking variation/deviation they (can) operate invariably from the way they manipulate the structure of language. For instance, a circumstance of location (otherwise known as adverb of place) can be placed at/in the frontal position, medial position or final position of/in a clause, as in: a. In Cotonou, there are many buildings. b. There are in Cotonou many buildings. c. There are many buildings in Cotonou. While it is obvious that these three samples exhibit the same clause constituents, they do not actually mean the same thing from a Thematic perspective. It follows from this to note that a choice of one of the three alternatives (a., b. and c.), de facto, represents a style-marker or encodes an idiosyncratic style.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126585789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The importance of teaching and learning English stems from the fact that English is a Lingua Franca for more than two thirds of the world. It is the language of science, business, tourism, aviation, cinema diplomacy and literature. But it is mostly needed as the language of the Internet, where more 60% at the top 10/M websites of the Internet is written in English. Teacher training is a key element in education as it helps to secure the attainment of the educational agendas of one particular organization at both personal and communal levels. This is applicable to all disciplines including the foreign language teaching.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124878753","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ostensibly, the focus of the poems of this volume is on the celebration of nature. These poems unleash the speaker(s)‟ fondness for the beautiful nature of Bengal. The landscape, rivers, trees, flowers, birds, monsoons etc. are the objects of contemplation. Hence, the current knowledge accepts, to a certain extent, that this volume of poetry chiefly enunciates the speaker(s)‟ love for Bengal‟s nature. However, an inevitable point—the representation of Bengali nationalism—gets inadequate response. Moreover, in our opinion, Das‟s laconic expression of Bengali nationalism in relation to his affection for nature demands sufficient critical thinking. This research finds it thought-provoking to discuss such issues in detail. To the best of our knowledge, the existing scholarships do not offer satisfactory definite understanding as for the projection of Bengali nationalism through nature. This paper deals with, primarily, the covert yet inescapable illustration of Bengali nationalism in the aforementioned volume. Additionally, at a deeper level, our paper focuses on the manifestation of such nationalism (Bengali) with the help of nature. We think our study would contribute to a better exposition of the relationship between Bengali nationalism and Bengal‟s nature in these poems of Das. In the following sections we would argue that these poems encompass a pure Bengali nationalism, and we would also see how this gets illumination through a deeply-seated admiration of Bengal‟s nature.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125104234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It investigates the religious differences among people of the same community as the main reasons behind the alienation of people. It particularly focuses on the life of the main protagonist, Salim,a Jew with particular reference to his relationship with Fatima, an educational Muslim daughter of a mufti. The study uses Seeman's (1959) socio-psychological theoretical framework to identify the negative impact of religious and social differences on the life of people. The objective of the analysis is to find out in what terms the character's concept of alienation is constructed which causes the characters to be alienated from their community. The text will be analysed using descriptive qualitative method. Findings from the analysis reveal how religious and social differences drive Salim and others who live under the same ideas of alienation to construct themselves as aliens in their homeland. And this consequently develops some other psychological problems such as lack of confidence, frustration, and the feeling of being alone.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121849340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Social interaction blooms on people‟s awareness of each other; and common understanding established when information is transmitted. With technological invasion and advancement, communication has moved from the traditional outlook of either face-to-face or strictly verbal message to encompass visual resources such as colors, images, designs, etc. which were initially perceived as means of entertainment. In today‟s societal set up, communication is enriched with the use of visual resources to heighten the means of encoding and decoding messages and the message itself. In other words, modern technology has barred the excessive dependence on verbal expression in meaning making and dented the belief that verbal mode is superior to other modes in communication as it now accommodates multiple modes alongside verbal resources in convening and interpreting codes.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131591884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been traditionally maintained that the body is used as a literary trope in Coetzee’s novels to demonstrate that the substantial or the real represented by the body resists to be contained in the discourse, especially the dominant discourse. Based on a detailed analysis of the cancer narrative of Age of Iron, this paper, however, argues that scars, wounds, pain, and diseases are highlighted in Coetzee’s oeuvre for other reasons. At the surface level, the body in pain is the living witness to the suffering inflicted on the body by the oppressive social system. Ontologically, the damaged bodies are described in Coetzee’s novels to reveal the fact that the subject’s existence depends on its corporal vulnerability to the other. In this way, Coetzee’s body narrative challenges the idea of autonomous subject and probes for an ethical self-other encounter that might be made possible through cultivating an awareness of the inter-corporeal relation.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131616266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A configurative synthesis approach to Systematic Reviews of secondary qualitative data was used to analyse the influence that Ghana’s current national language and literacy policy has on bilingual or multilingual education and how that translates into literacy instruction in basic schools. It was discovered that, Ghana had several languages and literacy policies over the years with the most recent of them being the National Literacy Acceleration Programme (NALAP) introduced in 2009. This policy advocated for 80% use of local Ghanaian language (L1) for instructional purposes from Kindergarten 1&2 to primary two (P.2) and 50% in primary three (P.3) in addition to the English language (L2). The policy aims at producing bilingual Ghanaian children by the end of P.3. This implies that teachers are supposed to teach children how to read, write and speak in both Ghanaian and English languages and concepts in the various subjects must be taught in Ghanaian language as the main medium of instruction supported by the English language. From primary four (P.4) upwards, the English language becomes the main medium of instruction up to secondary school. This language and literacy policy focuses on only eleven (11) Ghanaian languages out of a total of eight-three (83). The current study then recommends among others that, more Ghanaian languages should be developed into writing forms and adapted for use in education to increase the probability of children being instructed in an L1 that is their mother tongue. Also, for the policy to achieve its aim, learners should be allowed to choose a Ghanaian language as a core subject right from KG to study it up to the tertiary level.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131851183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
