National policies, documents, seminars and circulars have been designed in order to realize this dream. Teachers have been trained and pedagogical approaches have been revised and upgraded to improve literacy levels. All these concerted efforts seem not to be yielding the desired results in the three sampled rural schools of Mansa District in Luapula Province of Zambia, where teachers celebrate a six (6) out 120 learners‟ literacy rate, which represents only 4% of the whole class. Despite all the intervention put in place by the Ministry of Education, still, most of the learners in the Zambian Government schools can hardly read. This ugly scenario is the ultimate commissioner of this study.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129578514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is the very fulcrum upon which play making is hinged. on. The director‟s function in today‟s theatre keep expanding as his art keeps improving. In recent times, the emergence of trends in the theatre have made directors adopted new approaches to productions. However, one significant fact that has remained basically constant with the passage of time is the director‟s overarching goal and responsibility is to interpret a playwright‟s text and vision and unify all the other artists work to bring out the main artistic theme and vision of the production. The director thus, rely heavily on the text and other artists as his or her main tools in a production concept. The director is therefore seen as the unifier who holds the whole production together. He or she then becomes the designer who coordinates all the creative team and other staff of the production such as; costume design, lighting design, props, acting, set design, stage combat, and sound design for the production (Downs & Ramsey, 2012).","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133681172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent development has heightened the growth of online learning. Online learning becomes a common alternative for adult learners since the learners cannot attend face-to-face classes regularly (Means, Bakia, & Murphy, 2014). While the limited number of schools offer online courses, online programs are developing at a wide range in colleges and universities (Allen & Seaman, 2017). According to Rovai, Wighting, and Lui (2005), there is almost no significant difference between technology versus face-to-face classroom settings, which does not make a difference in learning outcomes. Online learning is increasingly recognized in education research to find out appropriate answers for different research questions: What do learners think about online learning? What makes learners successful in an online learning environment? For those questions, Motargy and Boghikian (2010) argue that it seemly depends on learners’ perceptions of interaction with instructors, other learners, and course content and their attitudes towards learning English online. Learners’ perceptions of interaction and attitudes have caught the attention of researchers, educational institutions, and instructors. Richards and Rogers (2001) mention that teachers should attempt to determine learners’ perceptions of interaction in a learning environment and students’ attitudes by discussing directly with them. In online learning, learners’ perceptions of interaction and learning attitudes are the primary concern.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128595858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the eyes of many students studying foreign languages as well as a large constituent of laypeople like parents and even many in the educational bureaucracy such as principals and government administrators, that is the goal, and even the sum total, of studying another language. Scholars in the field of language acquisition on the other hand know that grammar is only a small part of language competence. The classic description of language competence comes from Canale and Swain (1980). In their formation, grammatical competence is only one out of four aspects, the other three being discourse, sociolinguistic, and strategic competencies. The other classic rubric of communicative competence was presented by Lyle Bachman (1990) who divided it into two major categories of organizational and pragmatic competence and subcategories of grammatical, textual, illocutionary, and sociolinguistic competence. So, contrary to lay opinion, there is much more to language competence than grammatical accuracy.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134225539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It’s mostly used to assist ESL learners in improving their language abilities. It affects both fundamental and extra components of the language by bridging the gap between distinct areas of language learning. As a result of the exposure to vocabulary, the language becomes more vibrant and varied in its usage, and it becomes a tool for social interaction and interpersonal skills. Resultantly, we come to terms with acquiring vocabulary through input and output-based abilities, which lead to a wealth of experience, techniques and methods for learning and developing vocabulary. The effectiveness of vocabulary acquisition occurs as a result of encountering many tests to assess language competency to identify the influencing elements and eliminate limits that obstruct vocabulary learning. Furthermore, the process of vocabulary learning becomes easier and faster, ushering in better success in learning the target language by cooperating with the teacher and the learner to grasp the intricacies of vocabulary learning.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128080514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
