Using the Dictionary of Affect (Whissell, 2009), article words (N = 115,569) in the first 60 days of 2020 were measured for their pleasantness, activation, and imagery by candidate - Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, and Mike Bloomberg. Significant differences between Bernie Sanders and the other candidates were found for article pleasantness (p = .000), article imagery (p = 0.003) and headline activation (p = 0.23). Articles written on Bernie Sanders were less pleasant and more active in tone, as well as being more abstract (low in imagery).","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123313937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The construction of ideology of a civilised wo/man works hand in hand with the influence of hegemony. Antonio Grumsci says that the function of hegemony (control of ideas which manipulates social consciousness as economic and physical force alone was not enough to ensure control 3 ) is to transform ideology into culture, into a ―world view‖ that is seen as ―normal‖ and ―natural‖ by everyone from the controlling class to the subordinate classes. 4 And, for this reason, childhood seems to be the phase of life, where hegemony can function in its best possible way in the process of framing the ideology, which will control the person with his/her perception of the world for the rest of the life. Most of the children grow up with the attractive and compelling fairy tales. This fact has an immense psychological value,since nothing is stronger than the teachings we had in our childhood, and the adult mind does not easily agree to accept the new ideas replacing the old ones.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115053711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It substantiates how there has been a progress in the field of historiography as it has evolved from being a secluded and a separatist representation of the elite into an encompassing mirror of the subaltern as a whole. The paper has addressed the disengagement of subaltern history from the official accounts, which renders the subaltern vulnerable to misrepresentation, and consequent subjugation. From Marxist to Subaltern discourse, history has transited from being a homogenous account of the elite to a multitudinous account of the subalterns. It has also been analyzed how from Marxism to Subaltern studies, History is generally taken at its face value, especially if formulated by the elite authority. Under these circumstances, the subalterns who are misrepresented by the elite remain a scapegoat. It is in consideration of these putative reasons the need to rectify and reclaim subaltern history is paramount","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120977135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tallon‟s (2013, p.5) 2 theoretical perspective, the notion of some other researchers, including Spolsky (1989, p.166), and the researcher‟s personal experience in teaching and learning the English language serve as the foundation for this paper. However, learning English is not a mere undertaking. To acquire a solid command of this international language, the student must practice it every day in an atmosphere that can mirror native speakers. Consequently, in various non-English speaking nations, several organisations, clubs, or after-school programs dedicated to studying the English language have evolved to help students and lovers of Shakespeare‟s language strengthen their language skills.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127153947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For instance, when students learn the English language, they study not only the language, but the English-speaking history and culture.” However, in the context of Bangladesh, changing an entire curriculum all of a sudden to dispatch knowledge about other disciplines along with sharpening language skill might be difficult, but it demands future research and evaluation as English possesses a vast space in the curriculum. If properly analyzed, it is found that the socio-cultural history of English, in Indian subcontinent, encroaching on the national curriculum of the country has “their roots in the colonial past” with the use of English “in political discourse” “to communicate with the elites of the region” (Rahman et al., 2019). Following the integration of English into national curriculum, “during the Pakistani regime, English continued to be widely used as a recognized state language with the status of second language” in earlier East Pakistan, present Bangladesh. After independence, Bangladesh adopted “article 3” in “1972” that legalized “the use of English in the official, social and educational spectrums” of the country. Such a long history of English gradually entering the social, cultural and academic domain in Bangladesh eventually necessitates the importance of design, implementation and investment regarding the training and use of English (Rahman et al., 2019). “With over 30 million students learning English as a compulsory subject from grade 1 in the different streams of pre-tertiary education, Bangladesh has one of the largest English learning populations in the world”, according to M. Obaidul Hamid and Elizabeth J. Erling (2016). This huge number of learners who are spending much time on learning English are primarily relying on language-based classroom as the government of Bangladesh has introduced Communicative English Teaching in 1996 that is implemented from class 6 to class 12 (Chowdhury & Kabir, 2014). Considering the number of learners as well as the amount of time involved in English language learning, it can be suggested that Bangladesh needs a multifunctioning method to foster the acquisition of language skills and disciplinary knowledge at the Abstract: Disciplinary knowledge aims at expertise while interdisciplinary education drives learners to brainstorm from multiple perspectives. In other words, interdisciplinary education reinforces the idea of salad bowl that preserves multiplicity of knowledge in a single pot. In Bangladesh, therefore, where learning English has an unparallel importance, exploring other branches of knowledge confronts the challenge of time and effort management at times. Learning English is essential to communicate with the world, but learning it c","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122865466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It lays bare the historical experiences whose negative side effects are markedly noticeable through black women‟s daily interactions and interrelations in some American literary texts. Using black feminism and queer theories, the paper emphasizes how, after years of bondage, new subtler ways of subjugation give to the reader an idea of black female‟s realities in a white racist, white and male-dominated country. To this end, it historicizes the black female subject as it explores the historical actuality, authenticity, and factuality that account for the „a priori‟ male-hegemony approach, the interrelatedness of white supremacy, and male superiority that has characterized their reality in a situation of struggle to survive in two contradictory worlds informed by societal gender constructions, conceptions, attitudes, and practices.","PeriodicalId":137524,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123989648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
