However, despite a vast number of subsequent publications confirming this, and defining many facets of thymopoiesis, it is clear that several key issues have remained unresolved. Recently, IFN-1-induced Stat4 activation in human cells was found to require interactions of Stat4 with Stat2. In this article, Graham Rook and colleagues argue that this might prove a dangerous strategy in humans, and that we should distinguish between potentially pathogenic Th2 effector cells, and Th2-like physiological regulators of Th1 responses.
