Perrey","doi":"10.1051/SM/2018001","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1051/SM/2018001","url":null,"abstract":"Repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a well-known clinical neuromodulation technique, but transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) is rapidly growing interest for neurorehabilitation applications. Both methods (contralesional hemisphere inhibitory low-frequency: LF-rTMS or lesional hemisphere excitatory anodal: a-tDCS) have been employed to modify the interhemispheric imbalance following stroke. The aim of this pilot study was to compare aHD-tDCS (anodal high-definition tDCS) of the left M1 (2 mA, 20 min) and LF-rTMS of the right M1 (1 Hz, 20 min) to enhance excitability and reduce inhibition of the left primary motor cortex (M1) in five healthy subjects. Single-pulse TMS was used to elicit resting and active (low level muscle contraction, 5% of maximal electromyographic signal) motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) and cortical silent periods (CSPs) from the right and left extensor carpi radialis muscles at Baseline, immediately and 20 min (Post-Stim-20) after the end of each stimulation protocol. LF-rTMS or aHD-tDCS significantly increased right M1 resting and active MEP amplitude at Post-Stim-20 without any CSP modulation and with no difference between methods. Action capabilities were assessed via a countermovement vertical jump (CMVJ), 20 m sprint, 5 m acceleration and arrowhead change of direction (COD) test. Anticipation was measured via a soccer-specific anticipation test (SSAT), which required participants to anticipate the actions of an opposing player and intercept a pass. Pre- and post-intervention testing procedures were identical for both groups. Following training there was an overall improvement in CMVJ performance (p = 0.52) for both training groups and this improvement was correlated with movement initiation in the SSAT (r = 0.61, p < 0.05). The novel findings of this study highlight that different training modes can potentially have a positive impact on anticipation performance. Ce phenomene connait une popularite croissante et sa comparaison avec le sport fait regulierement debat. De nombreux travaux universitaires ont apporte des elements de reponses, que ce soit dans le domaine des sciences du sport ou de l’information et de la communication. Ces recherches revelent que l’activite physique des joueurs est souvent percue dans l’imaginaire populaire comme le talon d’Achille de l’e-sport lorsqu’il s’agit de le comparer au sport. L’objectif de cet article est de mettre en evidence l’engagement moteur des joueurs. A l’aide d’observations filmees ciblees sur la motricite des joueurs pendant huit rassemblements e-sportifs, et de quatre entretiens semi-directifs conduits avec des joueurs competitifs de jeux video de combat, nos resultats revelent que la performance dans l’e-sport repose sur deux competences indissociables. D’un cote, les joueurs doivent automatiser par repetition les differentes combinaisons precises et rythmees de touches sur leurs controleurs (l’execution), et de l’autre, ils doivent decoder les intentions de l’adversaire a travers les animations virtuelles du personnage a l’ecran (le mindgame ). Our opinion is that there has been warranted criticism of the deliberate practice framework and greater methodological rigour will invigorate survey research in this area. In this paper, we aimed to provide critical perspectives on self-report methods previously used to assess group discrimination and to measure deliberate practice in survey-based work in the context of sport expertise as well as to illustrate steps that could be taken to improve confidence in the validity and reliability of these measures. First, we focus on challenges discriminating between multiple, progressively skilled groups of athletes and outline two strategies: one aimed at improving the validity of skill grouping using standardized performance measures, and another illustrating how researchers can assess variability within skill levels. Second, we highlight challenges in measuring deliberate practice activities and propose a funnel method of narrowing athletes’ estimates from general sport activity to highly individualized, purposeful practice. We will argue that this new high profile is a direct result of the focus of media attention upon new technologies of prosthetic medicine that have helped to create a legion of cyborg bodies that is manifest in the image of the contemporary sporting supercrip. This paper highlights the development of a technocentric ideology that has been embraced within the Paralympic movement. In embracing this ideology, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) began to celebrate the cyborgification of Paralympic bodies. L'objectif de cette etude etait d'examiner la relation entre stereotypes sexues explicites et implicites et abandon sportif dans un echantillon de jeunes adultes ( N = 83). Les participants, qui avaient stoppe la pratique sportive, rapportaient des niveaux de stereotypes explicites pro-masculins plus eleves que ceux encore investis. Toutefois, aucun effet n'est apparu pour les scores implicites. {"title":"L’invention du piton d’escalade et sa diffusion en Europe","authors":"André Suchet","doi":"10.3917/sm.097.0045","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3917/sm.097.0045","url":null,"abstract":"Ce travail traite d’un moment de l’histoire des techniques sportives a partir des apports croises de la geographie et de la sociologie des innovations, c’est-a-dire l’etude de l’adoption et de la diffusion d’une invention. Il s’agit de traiter d’un objet technique au fondement des pratiques d’ascensionnisme mais dont l’histoire complete reste assez mal connue : le piton d’escalade. En effet, les resultats mettent en evidence une diffusion temporellement tres contrastee entre les regions de montagnes concernees. Invente dans le Tyrol au debut des annees 1900, l’usage du piton, et bientot d’un mousqueton permettant d’y passer la corde, se developpe autour de Hans Dulfer a Munich puis de Angelo Dibona de Cortina d’Ampezzo. Contre cette ecole des Alpes orientales, les alpinistes du Mont-Blanc comme Armand Charlet refusent cette methode. En France, Le GHM (Groupe de haute montagne) du CAF (Club alpin francais) partage le tabou du piton. C’est egalement la position des alpinistes britanniques qui traversent des lors une periode de stagnation face a la reussite des alpinistes autrichiens, allemands et italiens. A l’inverse, en France, le pyreneisme s’accorde rapidement a l’ecole des Alpes orientales en faveur du piton et parvient a un niveau de difficultes rocheuses comparable ou superieur a celui des cordees chamoniardes (fin des annees 1930). Si la fatigue mentale altere les fonctions cognitives comme l’attention ou la planification de l’action, elle peut egalement avoir des effets deleteres sur les performances physiques. Dans cette revue, nous decrirons les avancees recentes relatives a l’effet de la fatigue mentale sur les performances physiques. Nous nous focaliserons plus particulierement sur trois types d’exercices physiques : 1) les exercices globaux dynamiques, tels que le cyclisme ou la course a pied; 2) les exercices analytiques, comme une contraction sous-maximale soutenue jusqu’a epuisement ou une contraction maximale volontaire d’un groupe musculaire donne; et 3) les tâches de pointage, pouvant etre illustrees par le conflit vitesse-precision.
