Semistructured focus group interviews were conducted in June-December 2020 with 23 novice nurses who cared for patients with COVID-19 in March-April 2020. Sixteen themes were identified under three broad categories (viz., stimuli, coping, and adaptation). Following a needs assessment, an SVP education program was implemented, including adverse events and SVP experiences, available support, and a case study. Evaluation indicated nurses had improved knowledge and attitude and increased practice intent. Higher job satisfaction was associated with higher self-confidence, lower stress, and working in first choice of unit. A higher likelihood of resignation ideation was associated with coworker incivility, higher stress, and not working in first choice unit.
