The research investigates bringing the \"Jumanji\" game to life and how these technologies materialize the fantasy elements of the original game within the real world. It explores crafting a fantastical narrative, i.e., how they establish a captivating and immersive space adventure experience in \"Zathura.\" This study suggests that contemporary fans of \"Jumanji\" have a distinct perception of the film because they enjoy the mix of immersive fantasy and a sense of real-world connection.","PeriodicalId":505990,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Translation","volume":"46 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141818099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Emotions serve as a lens through which societal norms and cultural expectations are reflected and refracted, influencing the portrayal of gendered perspectives on emotional intelligence. By synthesizing relevant psychological theories and conducting a thorough examination of societal influences, this study seeks to illuminate how gender differences in emotional intelligence are articulated and perpetuated in literary representations. Through a meticulous literature review, the research aims to identify patterns and disparities in the expression and perception of emotions between male and female characters. These patterns offer valuable insights into the complexities of gender roles and stereotypes embedded within literary texts, providing a nuanced understanding of societal attitudes toward emotional expression and intelligence. Furthermore, by delving into the implications of these portrayals for gender dynamics in literature, the study contributes to ongoing conversations surrounding representation and diversity within the literary landscape. Ultimately, the findings of this research endeavor to advance our understanding of emotional intelligence and gender dynamics within the literature, offering a nuanced exploration of how societal norms and cultural expectations shape the portrayal of emotions in male and female characters. By shedding light on these complexities, the study seeks to foster a deeper appreciation for the multifaceted nature of gendered perspectives on emotional intelligence in literary narratives.","PeriodicalId":505990,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Translation","volume":"5 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141336024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A quantitative study used the questionnaire to collect data from 207 native Jordanian Arabic speakers from Amman Arab University. The pragmatic functions analysis is based on Searle's categories (1975) by adopting John Austin's Speech Acts Theory (1962). The study finds that gender is a significant social factor as males tend to use this variant more than females. The participants' responses were analyzed with SPSS. The study concludes that that DM ʕandʒad “really” communicate sixteen functions namely; anger, surprise, apologies, sympathy, commands, requests, challenges, advice, assertions, suggestions, complaints, claims, promises, oaths, threats, and offers. The study recommends that future research focuses on the pragmatic functions of this discourse marker (DM) ʕandʒad “really” in larger social contexts than those investigated in this study. In addition, teachers should emphasize the pragmatic functions of Jordanian discourse markers, like DM ʕandʒad “really”. They should provide multiple oral examples of Arabic discourse markers in different contexts for AFL learners to grasp and apply them in everyday intercultural contexts.","PeriodicalId":505990,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Translation","volume":"6 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141335990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the length is small, there are many suspensions, which makes people feel confused and lonely. This effect is mainly caused by the author's unique narrative strategy: narrating from the first-person perspective makes readers feel more engaged and better understand the author's true feelings. At the same time, a kind of anachronistic narrative time technique is used to skillfully arrange the sequence of events, creating many unknowns, which makes readers focus on what happened in the past in the reading process, producing a sense of confusion. This paper aims to lay bare its subtle and elaborate narrative design of time by scrutinizing the way in which the protagonist, John, narrates the story beyond the limits of time, laying an emphasis on Modiano’s ingenious arrangement in discourse time by examining its time, order, duration, and frequency, through which Modiano’s unique philosophy of time and his deep understanding of the characters' inner world are fully revealed.","PeriodicalId":505990,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Translation","volume":"5 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141336762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All samples of the said markers were collected among which those used to metadiscursive effects were identified by two raters. The proportions and frequency of the use of both markers were determined and analyzed within samples and between samples. The results of a Chi-Square test showed a significant difference in the use of both hedges and boosters within each work and between them. The data indicated that all three authors used metadiscursive hedges significantly more frequently than metadiscursive boosters. The results also revealed that there was a significant increase in the frequency of hedges moving from the first wave to the second but a slight decrease in moving from the second to the third wave, which shows that the increase was maintained. The data also showed a consistent significant increase in the frequency of boosters from the first wave to the second and from the second to the third. The findings suggest that in the course of the feminist movement, female authors have increasingly made bolder and firmer statements and claims in their works while simultaneously using a more cautious style to mitigate the boldness of their claims and more efficiently influence their readers.","PeriodicalId":505990,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Translation","volume":"51 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141345539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Within the Moroccan context, despite the increasing interest in the study of pragmatics, most research primarily documents speech acts without adequately considering the students' backgrounds or the received pragmatic input. This study aims to address this gap by investigating the pragmatic input of English speakers in Morocco. Employing a mixed-methods approach, it examines the pragmatic competence of 30 students, including both English majors and non-English majors from various schools in Morocco. A Google form questionnaire was utilized to assess both pragmalinguistic and sociopragmatic knowledge in relation to pragmatic input. The findings indicate a moderate overall awareness of pragmatics yet reveal significant deficiencies in sociopragmatic awareness, likely attributable to the reported deficiencies in pragmatic input. Notably, the study also shows that students are well aware of and exposed to authentic materials, especially through media, yet they do not focus on the pragmatic aspects of language in favor of other skills. These results underscore the necessity for curricular reforms that integrate pragmatic elements more holistically, particularly pragmatic instruction, thereby paving the way for future research to refine educational strategies and enhance pragmatic proficiency.","PeriodicalId":505990,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Translation","volume":"39 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141349914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study examines the rich historical legacy of translation in Uzbekistan, tracing its origins to the Mamun Academy in Baghdad during the 9th century and highlighting key figures and developments that have shaped the field over the centuries. Through qualitative methodology, the research investigates the current status of translation education within Uzbekistan's higher education system, addressing questions such as the historical background of translation teaching, effective instructional methodologies, essential translator competencies, and instructional approaches employed in European Union countries. The findings reveal significant challenges facing translation studies in Uzbekistan, including the absence of standardized curricula, assessment criteria, and proficiency frameworks. Despite these challenges, the research identifies opportunities for development, such as the adoption of internationally recognized frameworks like the European Master's in Translation (EMT) and collaboration with leading educational institutions in the European Union. The study concludes by proposing recommendations for advancing translation studies in Uzbekistan, including standardizing curricula, establishing certification systems, and fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government stakeholders. Overall, this research contributes to the understanding of translation studies in Uzbekistan and provides valuable insights for enhancing translator training and practice in the country.","PeriodicalId":505990,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Translation","volume":"51 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141347495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is further explained with an in-depth investigation of the ideology and social causes behind. Results show that Chinese and Russian media’s attention to Chinese aerospace is on the rise, constructing an image of China as a strong nation leading in innovative aerospace technology; while British and American media’s attention fluctuates considerably, conveying an ambitious image. {"title":"The Taxonomy of Denial as a Speech Act","authors":"Yassine Khaya","doi":"10.32996/ijllt.2024.7.3.17","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.32996/ijllt.2024.7.3.17","url":null,"abstract":"This paper presents a critical examination of the classification of Denial within Speech Act Theory, advocating for its redefinition from an assertive to a directive speech act. Drawing upon the foundational principles established by J.L. Austin (1962) and further developed by John Searle (1969, 1979), the study applies Searle's twelve dimensions of illocutionary acts to Denial. Through this analytical framework, the paper demonstrates that Denial transcends the mere negation of propositions, actively engaging in modifying the hearer's beliefs or actions, a characteristic inherent to directive acts. The analysis highlights the dual nature of Denial, which not only contests a given proposition but also, and more importantly, endeavours to influence the listener's perspective or behaviour. This re-evaluation challenges traditional views and enriches the discourse on linguistic pragmatics by advocating for a more nuanced and context-sensitive approach to speech act classification. By reclassifying Denial as a directive, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of communicative practices, emphasising the strategic use of language in social interactions and the complex dynamics of speech acts in communication. This reassessment calls for a broader reconsideration of speech act classifications, marking a step towards a more comprehensive representation of language functions within linguistic pragmatics and opening avenues for future research.","PeriodicalId":505990,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Linguistics, Literature and Translation","volume":" 95","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140210891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
