Among the numerous issues related to the problem of homonymy, the issue of distinguishing the phenomena of polysemy and homonymy is currently the most difficult, namely, the identification of lexical homonyms that arose as a result of disintegration of polysemy. Modern lexicographical practice points to the difficulty of distinguishing the studied phenomena and the difficulty of their clear, consistent differentiation. Many words that are presented as polysemous in one dictionary are considered in another as different words, homonymous with each other. The problem of distinguishing homonymy and polysemy may arise when homonyms appear as a result of semantic splitting of a polysemous word. At the same time, other words are formed based on different meanings of one word. On the basis of the analysis of existing linguistic concepts, the definition of polysemy is presented, the similarities and differences of individual fragments of related languages are systematized, and the main regularities of the occurrence of polysemy are studied. In the linguistic literature, there is no unity of opinion on the phenomenon of homonymy and on distinguishing it from polysemy. Some scientists recognize as homonyms only such lexical units that have the same sound, which initially differed in form and only in the process of historical development acquired the same sound due to various phonetic or other reasons. All other cases, when the same material, sound shell acquires a different meaning, are called the phenomenon of polysemy, word polysemy, others – words that, due to historical reasons, coincide in sound, are called homonyms, as well as those cases when different meanings of a polysemous lexical unit diverge so much that new (two or more) words arise. Whether it is possible to consider polysemy as a source of homonymy, or not to recognize the existence of homonyms, which are the result of the historical development of multiple meanings of the word, and how to distinguish between these two phenomena are the main questions that are considered in the article.

In this context special attention must be paid to the process of translating literary fairy tales that also include a lot of culturespecific elements but have not been studied from this perspective yet. The purpose of this research is to identify the ways of conveying the meaning of culturally marked vocabulary in the English translation of Vsevolod Nestaiko’s “A Tale of the Bliss Bird”. The main tasks of the study are as follows: to outline the strategies, methods, and techniques of rendering the meanings of ethno-marked components of the text into English, to find out what factors determined the choice of particular methods by the translator and how justified the corresponding text transformations are. The methods and techniques used in this research include a total sampling technique (to select the research data) and basic methods of linguistic and translation analysis, namely: analytical, descriptive, and comparative methods – for analyzing and comparing different linguistic realia in the original and their equivalents in the translation, to identify and describe the ways of rendering Ukrainian realia into English. It has been found that the translator of the text, Vasyl Baryshev, mainly employed adaptation and simplification strategies, which in most cases is justified by the age of the target audience of the fairy tale, the inappropriateness of overloading the text with transcribed foreign language realia with explanations that could interfere with children’s perception and lead to the loss of dynamism of the plot. Some of the author’s occasionalisms (nonce words), carrying vivid national and cultural connotations, are technically impossible to be conveyed by means of the English language. So, the translator had to employ the techniques of omission or substitution, use functional analogues and contextual equivalents. In the process of translating onyms, in particular the names of the main characters, V. Baryshev quite successfully applied a creative approach (though with certain inaccuracies), forming in the English version of the text a coherent anthroponymic microsystem that meets the demands of the fairy tale genre.

It is defined that an ethnostereotype is a form stable mental structures that are enshrined in language and accumulate condensed knowledge of the people about the world, themselves and others, that is created due to the interaction of language, culture and consciousness and have axiological and epistemological functions. Figures of speech as signs of language, thinking and culture reflect the characteristics of the writer’s ethnopsychological identity and are an important tool for modeling the ethnic picture of the world. As a result of correlation of the associative-image system with cultural-national stereotypes, ideas and standards, figures of speech acquire cultural-marked connotations. The analisys of the linguistic explication of Vasyl Stus’s individual-authorial picture of the world shows that one of the productive ethnic constants is the ethnostereotype the sun. The sun in Vasyl Stus` poetry is objectified in metaphors, which reveal the following ethnocultural meanings: a symbol of pagan and Christian God, the All-Seeing Deity and the power of God, which is also realized in the context of God’s judgment; the supreme truth; the source of light, heat and life; the beginning of the world; a pleasant person; inspiration, kindness, greatness. Following the folklore tradition, the writer associates the absence of the sun with death and the decline of nature, old age, the end of a certain period of life. Epithets that characterise the ethnostereotype describe it depending on the time of day (morning, noon, night), seasons (summer, spring), distance from the Earth (high), reflecting the idea of the impact of this light on the life of nature and the mental state of people. The color epithets of the sun (fiery, spring, purple) objectify the belief in the prediction of the weather and the future, depending on the type of light. Oxymoron epithets (midnight, night, cold, black) should be singled out, indicating the significant psychological influence of the sun on a person. The sun as the center of the Ukrainian macro-space is verbalized by the epithets Trypillia, cherry, the sun of Ukraine.

The article deals with a phenomenon of a contemporary Ukrainian language known as “Eu- ropean speak” (“Eurospeak”, originally “Euromova”), which involves the use of compound words with a prefix “euro”. Such words, mentioned in the article, are the result of the verbalization of the concept EUROPE. The process of creating these neologisms began in the 90s of the last century since Ukraine gained independence, and continues to this day. For instance, we are talking about such a popular phenomenon as “Eurorepair”, which means ‘high quality, new, better; repair like in Europe’. Researchers indicate that the component “euro” has become a significant “sticker” meaning all (West- ern) European. It can be any household goods, stores, catering, etc. However, in spite of the strong de- sire to “be like in Western Europe”, the quality is not always adequate, and therefore, the researchers draw attention to double standards, partiality and selectivity in the use of similar nominations, which is inherent in the countries of Eastern Europe in general. That is why such words can sound with a certain irony and sarcasm, suggesting the exact opposite.\u0000\u0000Consequently, Euro-2012 and Euromaidan (2013–2014) became a powerful impulse for the cre- ation and use of Eurospeak, when the media recorded a whole series of innovations with the use of the component “Euro”. Thus, there was a transition in the functioning of these “eurowords” from a purely household spoken sphere to a higher level – to civil and socio-political realities. These particular\u0000\u0000words mentioned in the article reflect some of the key phenomena of that time. For example, “Euro- piano” is a piano, which was found at Euromaidan and which people played throughout the events of Euromaidan and Revolution of Dignity. In the media, such compound words perform a different stylistic function, depending on the author’s plan and have different emotional connotations: from negative-offensive to sublime-patriotic.\u0000\u0000The study is designed to provide an interpretation how young Ukrainians perceive particular ele- ments of the “Eurospeak” nowadays. For this purpose, amongst the students of philology, a Free Associative Experiment was conducted, during which respondents were asked to bring associations on selected “Eurowords”. The results of the survey have confirmed the “European choice” officially declared by Ukraine. There is reason to believe that modern Ukrainians definitely see their future in Europe, but in Europe, which begins in renewed, up-to-date, European capital of Ukraine – in “Eu- roKyiv”.\u0000\u0000Perspectives for further research we see in two aspects. Firstly, in the investigation of upcoming neologisms with the component “euro” which will demonstrate common tendencies in the perception of Europe from the Ukrainian side. Secondly, in the diachronic research of the history of Europe con- ceptualization in Ukrain

Dochynets himself as an implicit narrator has been traced; semantic and word-forming and etymological analysis of ceremonial names has been carried out as well. The family rituals of Transcarpathians are artistically reproduced in the short stories “Circus”, “Ant in Amber”, “Domestic Bird” (birth ceremony); “Black Angel”, “Wax Rings” (funeral rite); “Mother’s Bread” (wedding ceremony). Family rituals in M. Dochynets’s works are represented both through artistic images and the prism of philosophical, traditional folk and religious ideas of the author himself as an implicit narrator. The picture of his artistic world reproduces the peculiarities of the national Ukrainian worldview and world consideration. Action elements of family rites are most vividly reproduced, including washing and dressing of the deceased, night vigil near the deceased, wedding invitations, gift giving to the young, etc. In most of them, pagan and Christian traditions are closely intertwined, fixed in the mental consciousness of Transcarpathians. The specificity of the real-object plan of family rites in M. Dochynets’s novel is the reflection of mystical, symbolic features formed on the basis of mythical and religious ideas of the people. The verbal context of the family rituals of the analyzed collection is represented mainly by lexemes and occasionally by phrasemes. By origin, these are mostly Ukrainian proper names with Proto-Slavic roots and a few borrowings. Most of the ceremonial nominations are the words of Ukrainian origin used mostly in the literary language, with the exception of a few dialectical words (sváyba, krúzhmo, uprovíd, dérevúsche). Symbolic meaning is inherent in such names as soul, candle, cross, wax rings, etc.

This phenomenon is reflected in the social media posts containing the misleading information that involves fake news, rumours, nonchecked «facts», users’ thoughts, emotional reactions to different events, other online posts or messages. The previous researches include the creation of various Arabic Covid-19 misinformation datasets. However, a more in-depth analysis of the online discourse is needed due to the lack of its linguistic, sociolinguistic and communicative studies. This paper deals with the sociopragmatic aspect of the online communication in the Arab world during the Covid-19 pandemic. The communicants’ social features are presented within their Facebook and Twitter accounts. We manually collected nearly 100 online posts on Facebook and Twitter. We analysed the users’ communicative goals, and, especially, the linguistic tools utilized to achieve those goals, as well as the language variation caused by different communicative purposes of the «infodemic» posts. The key words of the data research are represented with the pandemic related lexemes of Twitter hashtags, such as kūrūnā «corona», liqāḥ «vaccine», dawāʼ «remedy», etc. We classified the studied publications according to the following topics: pharmaceutical companies’ profits; denial of the role of vaccination and the preventive measures; persuasion of the effective drugs existence; health tips. As speech acts, the studied posts involve such types as representatives (fake news, pseudofacts, etc.), directives (health advises), and expressives (attitudes, emotions, thoughts, etc.). On the other hand, the given texts are regarded as the acts of disagreement (explicit or implicit). The explicit means of negation is represented with the grammatical particles, meanwhile the implicit instruments include the lexis with the negative emotional expressivity or negative connotations. It was also noticed, that some male texts use the negative lexicon more frequently, than the female ones. The language variation reveals the relation between the post’s communicative purpose and the code choice (MSA is preferred for the representative posts (to demonstrate the credibility), ESA (Educated Spoken Arabic) is used in all types of «infodemic» posts, Colloquial Arabic as the language of everyday communication is mostly present in the expressives).

The identification of these features was based on contextual analysis. Axiological features are elements of meaning that represent the positive / negative attitude of the speaker to the conceptualized phenomenon as a whole or to its separate conceptual features, such as 1) immoral – moral, pretended – real; 2) backward – progressive, irrelevant – relevant, unpopular – popular; 3) evil – kind, aggressive – peaceful, dangerous – safe; 4) disharmonious – harmonious; 5) nasty – pleasant, hated – beloved; 6) traditional – innovative; 7) sick – healthy.\u0000\u0000The results of the research show that conceptual features with a positive evaluation usually do not have certain means of linguistic expression, most often their implementation is carried out in context. Semantic concordance of the nominates of the TRANSFORMATION concept with the words bad, evil, harmful, unattractive, aggressive, sick, disharmonious, etc. can be the means of expressing the speaker’s negative attitude to the described phenomenon of transformation. The obtained results indicate the predominance of a negative evaluation over a positive one. Features that express a negative evaluation are more diverse. They are presented in the denotative meaning of a number of lexical units, which indicates their importance in the objectification of the TRANSFORMATION concept. On the other hand, a positive evaluation of the described facts and phenomena is not always recorded. Axiological features of the concept belong to the peripheral zone of the field, or the interpretive field of the concept.
