This is a phonological and morphological study of the linguistic variant spoken by the Mongo-Liinja of the territory of Opala, district of Tshopo in the Orientale province (DR Congo). In the colonial administration and ethnological literature, these Mongo-Liinja were considered to be Mbole. As a consequence they don’t consider themselves Mongo anymore. Nonetheless, even if their dialect is spoken beyond the eastern limits of the Mongo area, it displays unmistakable lexical and grammatical affinities with the linguistic varieties of the Yansanyama, the Boyela and other Bankutsu of the Upper Tshuapa. Mots-cles : viol; violence; patriarcat; justice; societe civile; guerre; fatalite; sensibilisation A horrendous aspect of patriarchy and dominator ideology, rape has in recent times captured the attention of civil society and the imagination of creative writers. The frequency of rape in peacetime, traditional, colonial, liberation war, and civil war contexts, since the dawn of time, seems to suggest that this gendered violence is inevitable. The paper argues that in presenting various images of rape, no matter how traumatizing, writers seek to draw attention to the crime and even more importantly, to the need to halt its frequency and dispel its aura of fatality. Schoolbooks in the Belgian Congo changed in accordance with the development of the colonial school system and with the changing social-political organization of the colony. Up until the first convention with the State in 1928, the religious objective prevails, and the Bible, the catechism and the history of Saints are the basic manuals in primary schools. From that moment on, a colonialist ideology increasingly comes to the fore, with in its wake a (Belgian) nationalism imposed onto the Congolese children. The authors of the schoolbooks are, without exception, foreigners often unfamiliar with local culture. One of the noteworthy consequences in the schoolbooks in African languages is the use of an oafish style and a deficient school vocabulary. On the other hand, the link with Belgian schoolbooks is limited. On the whole, the production of schoolbooks is amateurish, a few exceptions in the larger congregations notwithstanding.
