The bank aims to implement big data analytics to enhance decision-making and improve customer services. Integrating big data analytics into the bank’s existing information systems not only requires specialized hardware, software, and data processing techniques but also a restructuring of the organization structure and processes. It is currently confronting challenges, particularly in terms of employee resistance. To tackle this issue, BigBank has introduced a new role known as “Translators,” who serve as intermediaries between the analytics IT team and operating business departments. In this case study, students will take on the role of Translators and analyze these obstacles while proposing strategic solutions.","PeriodicalId":37921,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Technology Teaching Cases","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139439511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Emoticons are frequently employed in written communication, such as text messaging, social media platforms and various digital mediums, with the purpose of expressing emotions or providing more meaning to a statement. Adopting emojis in the professional environment has become a modern method to convey emotions, offer feedback, and express appreciation amongst peers. This exploration underlines the intersection of technology – specifically the use of emojis – and its influence on interpersonal interactions and dynamics within the professional setting. This draws attention to the need for effective communication, setting clear expectations, and understanding the implications of technology on workers' attitudes and behaviours. For deeper analysis, this study employs two pivotal frameworks: the theory of operant conditioning and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The former probes into the effects of outcomes, such as the usage of emojis, on employees' behaviours in the office context. The latter, on the other hand, explores the acceptance and perceptions employees have towards such technological innovations. Emphasizing effective communication becomes paramount when we consider the role technology plays in shaping our interactions and viewpoints. While emojis can potentially enhance the clarity and effectiveness of communication, they come with their set of challenges. It's vital to approach their use with discretion, particularly in sensitive scenarios like performance evaluations. In such contexts, the margin for misunderstanding is high, and incorrect interpretations can lead to unintended consequences.","PeriodicalId":37921,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Technology Teaching Cases","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138980115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To do so, they must pay attention to their activities to provide value to citizens, that is, their business processes. A system redesign carried out with business process guides can provide more targeted results. This teaching case is based on the Surabaya City Office for Population Administration and Civil Registration (COPACR), an agency responsible for handling population administration and civil registration issues in the city of Surabaya, Indonesia. The case describes the problems in the complaint service business process and how to address them by redesigning the business process using a qualitative approach. The complaint service process redesign begins with an analysis of the existing (as-is) complaint service process. This is followed by documenting and identifying the root cause of the problems. Ideas were developed to redesign the complaint service process to solve the root cause of the existing problems. This case demonstrates the redesigning of business processes leading to improvements in the public sector.","PeriodicalId":37921,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Technology Teaching Cases","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138604670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Learners develop an appreciation of how NFTs’ and DAO’s characteristics can create value in a disruptive way compared to web 2. This is explored through applying the framework of perceived value by customers and online customers brand activities to Chateau Edmus, a Bordeaux winery, led by Laurent David, a former tech manager from Apple. Web 3 brings economic, functional, affective, and social value to customers. It enables Laurent to get a competitive advantage in the marketing funnel, to gain efficiency in his own process, and to obtain knowledge from customers in order to innovate further. In spite of its additional value created for all stakeholders, technical and legal risks may shadow web 3 broader adoption and need to keep the purchase stage on web 2 platform.","PeriodicalId":37921,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Technology Teaching Cases","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139197714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The case follows the vice president for innovation of a mid-sized European digital agency involved in a project dedicated to designing a digital application that connects climate-conscious investors, banks, and homeowners in need of loans for green house renovations. In this case, students need to navigate stakeholders’ conflicting needs and consider broader aspects of environmental, social, and economic sustainability in the design of digital applications. At the same time, this digital solution should seek to promote stakeholders’ dignity.","PeriodicalId":37921,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Technology Teaching Cases","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139252629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(Dell) launched one of its kind laptop Luna in 2021 to pivot into circular electronic products. The laptop was developed in collaboration with Intel Corporation (Intel). It was a fully modular laptop that used sustainable materials, ensured no use of adhesives, reduced the size of the motherboard and other components, and extended the life of the product to promote the 3 Rs of sustainability: reuse, recycle, and refurbishment. However, the feasibility of the Luna was a challenge as a similar product Alienware launched by Dell in 2020 had failed because of a lack of upgradeable parts. Further, its competitors also planned to contribute to circularity using practical product innovations. With the entire electronics industry driven by efforts to design and launch sustainable goods, the circular economy (CE) market is bound to be more complicated. Amidst a competitive environment, the case examines the dilemma for Dell with respect to the mass production of Luna for the market. It analyzes the significance of strategic alliances for the company for the success of Luna and developing consumer trust in circular products. The case allows the readers to understand the innovations in the electronics industry to implement CE through new product development and challenges to scale up production and sales.","PeriodicalId":37921,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Technology Teaching Cases","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139271143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite its darker side, people make use of social media’s transformative potential to advance socio-economic-political narratives and for catalysing public engagement for social causes. This case study illustrates how a group of women social entrepreneurs in Food For Chennai (FFC), India, innovatively used social media, mobilized more than 250 volunteers, and saved more than 40,000 COVID-19 patients in a month through efficient and virtual operation. Data were collected via telephonic interviews using semi-structured questionnaires with founders and 20 other volunteers. While the findings can demonstrate that social media can serve as a catalyst for social change, especially in times of crisis, they may not be generalizable. Future researchers could employ a comparative, quantitative approach for broader validation.","PeriodicalId":37921,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Technology Teaching Cases","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135634755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
