For instance, equity arrangements such as participation, joint ventures and R&D corporations are distinguished from contractual arrangements such as R&D contracts or R&D co-operations. Predominantly, however, single mode networks have been empirically analyzed based on single criteria such as joint projects or collaborative research agreements. The resulting networks have been discussed and analyzed as important strategic tools to absorb new developments in technology. However, within the literature not much attention is paid the processes in which they are formed. This paper focuses on the latter process. The subject area of attention is the integration of biotechnology, genomics and information technology by new startups and their collaborative behavior with existing pharmaceutical and chemical companies. The central question is which differences can be discerned in collaborative patterns.","PeriodicalId":376256,"journal":{"name":"IEMC'01 Proceedings. A new approach for case presentation classes 案例表示类的新方法

{"title":"A new approach for case presentation classes","authors":"G. Judd","doi":"10.1109/IEMC.2001.960497","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/IEMC.2001.960497","url":null,"abstract":"This paper describes an approach for those courses in which student teams make a single major presentation, each presentation based upon a different case during the course. While the presentation role with all of its advantages is retained, two new roles, that of board of directors and that of evaluators are introduced. The new roles provide several advantages over the traditional approach. The number of role-active participants in each case is tripled while the number of viewpoints with which the case is approached is similarly increased. The learning experiences from the cases deepen as students take on not only a presentation role, but also that of a board of directors with the responsibility for questioning the presenters and of evaluators judging and commenting upon the other participating teams. The performances of all three teams are discussed openly in review sessions after each case. The strengths and weaknesses of all the teams are identified first by the student teams themselves and then by the instructor. The entire evaluation and discussion are used as learning opportunities for all in the class. In course evaluations, the students have indicated strong appreciation and positive attitudes toward this new case study organization format.","PeriodicalId":376256,"journal":{"name":"IEMC'01 Proceedings. The paper analyzes firms' environmental strategies along two dimensions: operations and products. The results of a survey of 241 firms indicate that, along the operations dimension, SMEs should seek everyone's participation in the improvement of their operations' environmental performance. However, along the products dimension, in order to improve the probability of success of their environmental product differentiation strategy, SMEs should favor the involvement of a limited number of technically skilled people, acting as technological champions and gatekeepers.","PeriodicalId":376256,"journal":{"name":"IEMC'01 Proceedings. Thus, globalization may offer additional value in banking.","PeriodicalId":376256,"journal":{"name":"IEMC'01 Proceedings. Change Management and the New Industrial Revolution. IEMC-2001 (Cat. Socratic leadership and three dimensional change 苏格拉底式领导和三维变革

{"title":"Socratic leadership and three dimensional change","authors":"R. The concepts have been developed by the author, over a period of three years, as a tool to more effectively manage the development of new microwave ovens at Whirlpool. The author leads and manages, from Sweden, four product development centers, in Sweden, China, Brazil and the US. The \"fuzzy front end\" has been the primary target for the efforts to improve effectiveness. The Socratic leadership style has helped to clarify the up-front work, and the concept of \"three-dimensional-change\" has proven helpful when implementing change. The management of the extreme uncertainty and complexity in the \"front-end\" is now more effective. The paper proposes that a Socratic leader can better master change, both his own and organizational change. The word Socratic implies, of course, a philosophical approach. The concept of three-dimensional-change is discussed and it is explained how one-dimensional change almost never will lead to a lasting and deep change. The starting point is naturally the art and theory of thinking.","PeriodicalId":376256,"journal":{"name":"IEMC'01 Proceedings. Change Management and the New Industrial Revolution. IEMC-2001 (Cat. Due to the natural limited knowledge processing capacity of management, classical top-down driven technology management approaches have reached their limits. This paper presents a bottom-up driven technology management concept, the so-called technology tree concept, which is capable of integrating the capacity of all engineers into its technology management process. It represents an open process allowing all engineers the possibility of initiating their own knowledge network for a promising technology of their own choice. Driven by the evolutionary process-survival of the fittest-some of these technology networks develop into strong business branches, others die off and many remain on a ready-to-start-level without stranded investments up to that point. As soon as the market is ready, the corresponding network is able to quickly expand and apply its technology. Further on in this paper, an example shows how the concept is implemented at an R&D division of Siemens AG Austria, having 5000 engineers. The technology tree concept is a driving force for cultural changes towards knowledge sharing, cooperating across the borders of business units, and opening top-down bottlenecks.","PeriodicalId":376256,"journal":{"name":"IEMC'01 Proceedings. Classic business management theory can't catch up with the dramatic changes of environment where enterprises exist. This paper first analyses the situation of innovation and innovation management of Chinese enterprises and the environment facing them, then integrates the latest research of innovation management, and presents challenges and countermeasures to classic strategic management (from environment driven to core competence, and complexity based management), marketing (focus more on lead user), organization (from M form to network as well as C-Form), finance (balance of financial and nonfinancial calculation), human resource management and enterprise culture theories from the angle of executing innovation management.","PeriodicalId":376256,"journal":{"name":"IEMC'01 Proceedings. The first paper analyzed the linkage using bibliometric techniques, demonstrating links to be prevalent and growing. The finding opposes the widespread belief that Japanese industry and universities have little research interaction, a major justification for reforms. The second paper presented empirical support for this finding, demonstrating the linkage to be substantive. The current paper reconciles the finding of a strong university-industry linkage in Japan with the taken-for-granted assumption of weakness in the linkage, by considering the process of comparative innovation system assessment in the context of innovation-driven change.","PeriodicalId":376256,"journal":{"name":"IEMC'01 Proceedings.
