Komova","doi":"10.22455/horl.1607-6192-2021-20-548-578","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.22455/horl.1607-6192-2021-20-548-578","url":null,"abstract":"The article defines the circumstances of the existence of the icon of Our Lady of Svensk Pechersk, which according to legend is a miracle-working icon of the Kiev-Pechersk monastery, sent to Bryansk to heal the blind Prince Roman. Its iconography reproduces the altar mosaic of the assumption Pechersk Church with the image of Our Lady enthroned, supplemented by figures of the upcoming venerable Anthony and Theodosius, which are their first surviving images. The story, reflecting the history of the icon, preserved in the Legend of Conception of Svensky Monastery and in the Tale of Svensky Icon of Our Lady. The Legend dates no later than 1566, when the life of the Svensky monastery became more active in connection with the renewal of the icon’s riza, carried out on the instructions of Ivan IV Vasilyevich. Most likely, the protograph of the Legend is a petition about the restoration of the icon’s riza of the elder Job Kamy- nin, presumably included in the monastic chronicler. Two well-known lists of Tales published in the late 18th — early 20th centuries belong to editions dating back to this protograph. The text of the Legend does not reflect the ecphrasis of the miraculous icon, but contains a legend about the finding of the Shrine and the Foundation of the monastery, which dates back to 1288. It is the miracle-working icon that becomes the main text-generating factor of the Legend, which implements the traditional motif: an ancient Shrine changes a person’s life, heals him through the prayers of Our Lady, he builds a monastery that be- gins to live, preserving the memory of the shrine, the donator and legendary events. The first article reveals the expressiveness of the “Turkic” utterances of Afanasy Nikitin in The Journey Beyond Three Seas according to the list of the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts (RSAAA), f. 181, no. 371 of the first quarter of the 16th century. The third article examines the aesthetic role of verses in the collections of the late 17th century: RSL, Tikhonravov, no. 233, 249, 380, 411, 499. The fourth article shows that some compilers of collections of the 17th century appreciated the visual arts of works, mostly very old (оn the example of collections of the RSL, Tikhonravov, no. 460, 384, 18, 340, 231). In two Appendices to the article are published the descriptions of the composition of the collection no. 231 and the text of the parable about the dispute of parts of the human body. In two Ap- pendices to the article, it is said about the everyday depiction of the collection of proverbs and sayings according to the list of the RSAAA, MMA, no. 250–455 of the late 17th century and on the expressiveness of articles in the miniature collection of the RSL, Bolshakov, no. 325. The fifth article points to the mocking meaning of proverbs and sayings about criminals in the same collection of the RSAAA, MMA, no. 250–455. It is believed that the study of the copies of the 18th century does not add essential information about the repertoire of collections of Synodikos. However, manuscripts can still be found that do not completely fit into the general picture of the ideas available in current science about the composition of literary collections of the late Synodikos. The article examines three handwritten front Synodikos books identified by the author, which differ significantly in the composition of literary prefaces from the general mass of those Synodikoses of the third edition common in the 18th century (I.V. Dergacheva). They are based on miniatures copied from engravings of various editions of the Synodikos by Leonty Bunin, and selected texts that match their meaning. A similar principle of compiling a moralistic collection was used in the Patriarch Adrian Synodikos (O.R. Khromov). The manuscripts in question have different origins and history of existence, but demonstrate thematic and stylistic affinity. They are also united by a curious combination in preface collections of poetic and prose texts. Vodolazkin is set in Russia (Rus’) of the 15th century, and full of quotes and retelling of plots and fragments of a large number of translated medieval works that existed in the Russian Middle Ages. The central place among them belongs to a narration (a novel) about Alexander the Great — its manuscript is kept under the icon as the Holy Scripture. The article examines the juxtaposition of situations and problems of the main characters of Vodolazkin’s novel and situations and the personality of Alexander whose image permeates the text of the modern novel accompanying the worldview searches of its heroes. Young Arseny is impressed by the renowned commander primarily because he is a tireless explorer of lands — countries, peoples, bizarre creatures and phenomena of those lands. Later Arseny (who becomes Amvrosy and Laurus on his way) comprehends the category of the path in connection with Alexander, namely the path of salvation for the soul of Ustina. The prediction of Alexander’s tragic death — “on the iron earth under the bone sky” — is projected by the heroine, Ustina, onto her own fate, but there is no fatal inevitability in the prediction: its retelling does not prevent another heroine, Anastasia, from giving a birth to a child successfully. At the end of the novel there appears a question: “What a strange life Alexander had. What was its historical purpose?” The question is asked by Anastasia who is falling asleep, and Laurus answers it himself: “Life has no historical purpose. Or it’s not primary. It seems to me that Alexander realized this only right before his death.” Actually it’s the hero of Vodolazkin’s novel who understands this instead of Alexander before his imminent death. Having conquered the world Alexander died before reaching his home land in accordance with the prediction of Antiphon. For this, the concept of “divine sight” is introduced, which goes back to the principle of the image described by P. Florensky and called ‘the eyes of God’. In addition, the proposed article suggests that Old Russian Word for Lazarus Resurrection has a connection with ancient literature. The article is divided into three parts. To substantiate the proposed assumptions, the first part of the article is devoted to an overview of the history of the study of this apocryphal work before A.S. Nikolaev (a researcher of our time), who emphasizes the connection between the Word for Lazarus Resurrection with the Indo-European root. To substantiate the application of the “divine sight” technique in the analysis of a literary work, in the second part of the article, we will consider the cultural soil of the ancient Christian apocrypha. The researcher pays special attention to the passages containing the evaluative characteristics of the holy prince. Recognizing, following his scholarly predecessors, their plagiarism, the author establishes that, expanding the lexico-stylistically context of praising Vladimir Sviatoslavich by borrowing, the compiler of the archetype of the two works in an ideological sense was not able to enrich it. Perhaps he laid the foundation for the assertion of the tsarist and autocratic dignity of the ancestor of the Christian Russian rulers: a fact consistent with the changed norms of behavior and speech in Moscow society at the end of the 15th — the first half of the 16th century. At the same time, the unknown Russian literary scholar evidently showed himself as a master of literary compilation and combinatorics. Popovich","doi":"10.22455/horl.1607-6192-2021-20-186-207","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.22455/horl.1607-6192-2021-20-186-207","url":null,"abstract":"The literary topoi and allusions to the victim and sacrifice in the biblical and historical context at the same time played a great role for Andrey Kurbsky as a traditionalist and innovator writer in the embodiment of the complex author’s intention of the History of the Grand Prince of Moscow (the second half of the 16th century). The article notes that the writer distinguishes, as opposites, the axiology of sacrificial feat for power doer and persecuted heroes. The article reveals the diverse reception of the author’s interpretation by readers and scribes of History. Kurbsky’s contemporaries and readers of the late 17th — early 18th century had different attitudes toward Kurbsky’s definition of the personality of Ivan the Terrible who makes unrighteous victims and the characterization of people affected by him as new martyrs. The rich handwritten tradition of History, including as part of the Kurbsky Collections, contributed to the emergence of new reader’s interpretations based on literary topoi and allusions used by Kurbsky. The intellectuals of the ‘transitional’ period A.S. Matveev, Evfimy Chudovsky, A.I. Lyzlov, V.V. Golitsyn and others were involved in this process. Textological and typological comparisons of certain monuments and Kurbsky’s History contributed to a deeper understanding of the literary context of the time when the prince’s writings spread. Fet discovered the Pskov edition of the Prologue, dating back to the middle of the 15th century and preserved in the copies of the autumn-winter half-year. The researcher noticed its unusual didactic section, containing newly included readings. This article discusses the sources of individual (not typical for other editions of the Prologue) sermons of the Pskov edition for September — November. Research has found that the closest source of the main part of borrowings is the Saratov edition of Zlatostruy (Chrysorrhoas Collection) known in the copy of the end of the 15th century. The body of this article provides arguments in favour of working with this source as well as information on the use of some other reading collections. The manuscript was kept near the books marked with Chequeo peasant library seal. The Abbot of the Solovetsky monastery, Archimandrite Ioannikiy, was one of the founders of this library. He was a native of the Polye village, which was part of the Chequevo. So it can be assumed that the manuscript came to the library from the Solovetsky monastery — the spiritual and cultural center of the Russian North. Divine Service of Thanksgiving... is a handwritten copy from the first printed edition of the solemn service, created immediately after the Russian troop’s victory in the Poltava battle in 1709. The author of the text is Archbishop Theophilactus (Lopatinsky). The history of the manuscript reveals the awareness of the Northern peasantry’s involvement in the Russia naval success and in the fate of the Fatherland. As a result of Peter’s the Great reform activities, Arkhangelsk lost its strategic importance for the state development, but the Emperor’s connection with the Northern peasantry formed an important part of the marginal self- consciousness of the Pomors. In the 18th century Patriotic discourse, the wars waged by Russia are assessed as liberating. In the text of the Service, the images of the Russian army, Tsar Peter I and the people are endowed with such characteristics as humility, smallness, infirmity, loyalty to the true faith and trust in the grace of God. The enemy image is based on comparisons with the vanity builders of the Babylon tower, arrogant Goliath, arrogant and fierce Pharaoh, thousands of Assyrian army, the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar, the traitor Judas. Researchers characterize the author of the Divine Service of Thanksgiving... as one of the most consistent zealots of Orthodoxy, a hidden opponent of Peter’s Church reforms and a passionate enemy of Protestantism. In the Russia and Sweden state ideology, there is a common trend: the protection and collection of lands around the empire center. The common language of Baroque European culture is typical for Swedish and Russian glorifications of the Northern war time. The epic style of the znamenny chant that prevailed in the early period (11th–14th centuries) in many aspects coincides with the bylin epic. At a later period of Muscovite Russia (15th–17th centuries) the melody of Junior edition of the znamenny chant and the development of new lengthy chants — putevoj, demestvennyj and bolshoj — led to recognition of the leading role of melodic beginning. Not earlier than the end of the 16th century this was manifested in folklore, in the genre of lyrical (drawl) songs. Russian Church singing shows that the medieval musical tradition, like the architectural, fresco, iconographic, and hymnographic traditions, preserved its aesthetic and value foundations in the styles of later epochs, forming a typology of musical thinking, the leading trends of the Russian school, and the national mentality.
