The researchers are usually interested in the lexical variations, and primarily synonyms and dialect words used by the scribes, if any. Spoiled readings are traditionally needed for classifying the manuscripts. Part of lexical innovations remain out of view of the researchers. It includes words that were the result of the different interpretation of the text by the scribes, and the polysemantic lexemes that are synonyms in their non-basic rare meanings or associated associatively or conceptually in this context. Such variation is interesting from the point of view of the mental processes and the concepts of the medieval scribe, the idea of which is given precisely by the lexis. The published article considers some lexical substitutions that represent these word groups. The reading of the protograph and several manuscripts of Kormchaya book of the early Russian redaction of the 14th – the end of the 16th century served as the material for the present study.","PeriodicalId":330704,"journal":{"name":"Palaeoslavistica: Lexicology and Textology. A. Ilyinsky, which was not published due to the approval of the “new doctrine on language” by N. Ya. Marr in the Soviet linguistics of the 1930s. The manuscript of the second edition, which had been considered lost, was kept at the N. Y. Marr Institute of Language and Thought (now the Institute of Linguistic Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences). It is located in St. Pe-tersburg. Department of the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences (f. 77. Inventory 7. d. 61–64) and is a handwritten copy of the text of the Proto-Slavic grammar by the wife of the scientist A. Ya. Ilyinskaya (without the first 224 sheets of the Introduction, which are stored separately). The total volume of the manuscript is 1596 sheets. The article briefly describes the composition of Ilyinsky’s work, especially noting the differences between the second, significantly expanded edition, and the first, including a significant replenishment of scientific works considered in each chapter, a review of the achievements in the study of the Proto-Slavic language in the 1920s; a significant expansion of the research material, including an increased number of Indo-European languages used for comparison; the author's revision of some of the conclusions set out in the first edition. The appendix contains a fragment of Chapter VI “Lexical interaction of the Proto-Slavic language with other neighboring languages”.","PeriodicalId":330704,"journal":{"name":"Palaeoslavistica: Lexicology and Textology. Slavic Equivalents of the Greek ἐφόδιον in the Translation of the Hexameron by John Chrysostom John Chrysostom译《Hexameron》中希腊语ν φόδιον的斯拉夫语对等词

Тhe Slavic equivalents of ἐφόδιον in Homily 5 of the Hexameron by John Chrysostom are analyzed comparatively based on the two copies: the middle-Bulgarian Zogr19 and the Serbian (Resav by spelling) RM4/2. One of the aims is to answer the question of whether these two copies represent two independent translations or whether they are two versions of one early Old Bulgarian translation. The presence of the rare lexeme in the two copies supports the point of view that the translation of Homily 5 in Zogr19 and RM4/2 is the same, but it is introduced in two versions. The text seeks to answer the question of whether it is possible to accept the rare lexeme as characteristic of a specific group of Old Bulgarian translated texts, as well as accepting it as the idiolect of a specific translator.","PeriodicalId":330704,"journal":{"name":"Palaeoslavistica: Lexicology and Textology. Old Church Slavonic Elements in the Code of Emperor Dušan (1349, 1353/1354) 《皇帝法典》中的旧教会斯拉夫元素Dušan (1349, 1353/1354)

Before the end of the 14th century and especially in the 15th century, the text of the Code was subjected to subsequent archaization, with the aim of increasing the share of Old Church Slavonic elements in the linguistic structure, which reflected the spirit of the time, different from the period in which the codex had been compiled. In this context, the paper seeks to determine the real presence of this linguistically marked phenomenon and its function in the text, before the upper chronological limit, set by the oldest surviving manuscript copy in physical terms, the Struga manuscript (ca. 1395). The study compares the situation in the manuscript copies of the older recension, especially in those that were not exposed to major linguistic changes. It is established that during the earliest development of the manuscript tradition of Emperor Dušan’s Code (i.e. the first fifty years after its had been compiled), the Old Church Slavonic phonetics, accompanied by morphology to a limited extent, was the basic means of increasing expressiveness (however, Old Church Slavonic morphological means were hardly at all used in the protograph). The Old Church Slavonic vocabulary present in the Code of Emperor Dušan was generally not phonetically marked; it was in every respect adjusted to the vernacular language system. The use of elements adopted from Old Church Slavonic was, above all, determined by the topic, i.e. it was limited to a particular subject. These elements are not scattered throughout the text, but are mostly concentrated in the legal provisions concerning church law, usually with reliance on the so-called Code of the Holy Fathers. As it turns out, elements of Old Church Slavonic from various linguistic levels are not widely present in the original text of the Code of Emperor Dušan. This presumably reflects the situation in the Old Serbian language of the time, although the language of this legal monument is administrative and not colloquial.","PeriodicalId":330704,"journal":{"name":"Palaeoslavistica: Lexicology and Textology. On the example of the analysis of the lexeme techenie from the Slavic translation of Kozma Indikoplov’s “Christian Topography” (with Philo of Carpathia’s catenas), the author shows, what a complex lexicological study, including elements of textological analysis and reconstruction of the original translated work, is carried out by a researcher in order to develop the most lapidary definition. Modern Old- and Mediο-Slavic lexicography prefers in such cases to go beyond the traditional strict framework and include additional information in the dictionary entry, which should indicate the validity and correctness of the main definition.","PeriodicalId":330704,"journal":{"name":"Palaeoslavistica: Lexicology and Textology. Cejtlin’s studies for modern paleoslavistic research. According to the author, the development of R. M. Cejtlin’s “fresh” view on Old Church Slavonic lexicology was facilitated by the peculiarities of her biography: the scientific views of her supervisor, the emergence of the Russian theory of word-formation during this period of time, working together with Czech colleagues on a large array of Old Church Slavonic lexical material. Several of R. M. Cejtlin’s ideas turned out to be fruitful for further paleoslavistic research: the division of Old Slavic vocabulary into groups following certain suffixes, the study of morphemic lexico-semantic groups as lexical microsystems. R. M. Cejtlin’s attention to Old Church Slavonic compounds (complex words) was important for subsequent paleoslavistic studies. R. M. Cejtlin’s various comments and opinions on various paleoslavistic issues are also valuable for development of paleoslavistics.","PeriodicalId":330704,"journal":{"name":"Palaeoslavistica: Lexicology and Textology. Syntax-Semantic Types and Lexico-Semantic Models of Multi-Component Words in Old Bulgarian and Church Slavonic: Composita Substantiva & Verba 古保加利亚语和教会斯拉夫语多成分词的句法语义类型和词汇语义模型:复合实质与动词

The study is done on lexical material, excerpted from the main lexicography works in Old Bulgarian and Church Slavonic languages. The analysis proceeds from the theoretical statement that the structural significance of word order (as well as of any language unit that is semantically and formally dissected) is not a simple sum of lexical meanings of its constituent units, but interactions between them on the basis of certain predicate relations. Based on the specific analysis, the conclusion is drawn that the variety of syntactic-semantic types and the lexico-semantic models of multicomponent complex words reveals the rich word-forming capabilities of the Old Bulgarian language, respectively the Church-Slavic language, and their ability to adequately translate foreign language specimens by their own means of speech.","PeriodicalId":330704,"journal":{"name":"Palaeoslavistica: Lexicology and Textology. Existent hypotheses of the word’s etymology seem to be unconvincing in semantic or structural aspects. According to the author’s hypothesis the word is derived from звено. This idea is founded on the author’s reconstruction of initial semantics and genesis of Proto-Slav. *zveno. There are several hypotheses about the origin of Proto-Slav. *zveno, but its etymology remains obscure. In previous work devoted to semantic reconstruction the analysis of Slav. lexical material enabled the author to define repeating semantic elements in Slav. words as ‘part of the whole’ / ‘one of clamped parts’ / ‘space between clamps’. Then the denotatum of Proto-Slav. *zveno was defined as ‘interval, space, orifice with some filling’. So the hypothesis was suggested about the genesis of Proto-Slav. *zveno from Ind.-eur. *ĝhēη- ‘gape’. The defined denotatum of Proto-Slav. *zveno as interval, space allowed the author to suppose that Russ. dial. south взвéнье ‘wolf’s lair’ is derived from звено, with pref. в(ъ)- (instead of usually preferred въз-).","PeriodicalId":330704,"journal":{"name":"Palaeoslavistica: Lexicology and Textology.
