One of the cultural forms in Indonesia is mantra which is still maintained up to the current time and is still practiced by the community in many different places for many different purposes. One of the existing mantras is mantra pengasihan (the spell of affection). The aim of this study is to reveal the role of linguistic features used in mantra pengasihan (MP), especially Sabuk Mangir. The data were collected by deeply interviewing some Subjects (shamans/dukun/pawang or the mantra spellers) and the Object (the target persons) in Glagah and Licin Subdistricts, Banyuwangi. Having been collected, the data were analyzed by content analysis approach to find the types of languages, the narrative elements, the sentence patterns, and the figurative languages used in MP. This study examined the figures and meanings of Tengu, mythological creatures that are classified as Youkai which one of them is, as described in the Japanese folklore, having long nose and fully-red colored body. The data for this study are the folklore taken from the anthology book Nihon Mukashi Banashi 101 edited by Sayumi Kawauchi (2007). The figures and existence of Tengu in the folklore were practically analyzed using the Peirce's semiotic theory, with the focus on the meaning of icons, indexes, and symbols of Tengu in the folklore and the Japanese belief system. Moreover, this study revealed two figure types of Tengu namely daitengu, is a tengu whose long nose and kotengu whose eagle-like wings. In the Japanese belief system, it is believed that Tengu are mountain guardians, for example the Mount Takao, one of the places which is believed to be a Tengu habitat. Tengu is as well believed to have objects with supernatural powers such as kakuremino (a cloak) and ha uchiwa (a fan). The descriptions in the folklore clearly show that these Tengu actually exist, although the fact in reality is different. Regardless of either the presence or absence of these mythological creatures in the real world, furthermore, the folklore narrative shows that modern Japanese society still has a strong belief in the existence of Tengu. Stories about Tengu along with other mythological creatures continue to be passed on from a generation to another in both oral and written forms that indicates that Japanese people do not ever detach themselves from their old belief system. This discussion is a case study of how the Minangkabau greeting is used in modern Indonesian fiction of the local Minangkabau color and in the text or lyrics of popular modern Minangkabau songs. The word Minangkabau greeting, especially those that are semantic in the text of creative work, is used in certain situations that are closely related to factors of narrative, ethnicity, and kinship. Several types of semantic-style greetings are found in self-names, kinship, traditional titles, educational outcomes, positions, deeds, other greetings, and figures of speech. The use of Minangkabau greeting words in the text of creative works can be viewed positively because the text of creative works has indirectly functioned as (1) the documentation system for naming systems in the Minangkabau language, (2) the maintenance and development media for intangible cultural heritage in the form of Minangkabau language greetings . Interaction between language and cartoon images is often regarded as a straightforward and easy-to-process way to convey a message. This study aims to show that the meaning and cartoon messages are not always easy to understand, therefore readers should observe the language and visual information of each cartoon. This study is aimed at identifying the linguistic modes and the visual modes in the cartoons to convey the meaning and the explicit message or implied message. For this purpose, two theories are adopted; Systemic Functional Linguistics Theory by Halliday (1994) to analyze linguistic modes and multimodal approach by Kress and Van Leeuwen (1996, 2006) to analyze visual modes or images in cartoons. The research data was obtained from Usik-Usik cartoon book (Cynical Collection of the World of Education). The findings indicate that language text is a linguistic modes that acts as an effective multimodal element and complement the visual modes in the cartoon work. Local policy position is included in the order of legislation in the Republic of Indonesia. This is where problems often occur in terms of synchronization and harmonization. Using the method of documentation study and in-depth interviews and focus group discussions, this research produces an analytical description to understand the formulation of Regional Regulations, particularly in the field of education services that, according to the 1945 Constitution, are decentralized the regions. The case study was conducted by dissecting Perda No. 6 of 2003 on Compulsory Reading and Writing of the Qur'an for School Children and Prospective Brides. The research method consists of 2 layers, the first is an inventory, and the second is a normative and procedural analysis of the process and substance of the intended public policy. The regional regulations studied were contained sharia nuances and regulated the religious sector, which was not under the authority of regional autonomy, which was derived from the principle of decentralization. In the guide, the legal drafting process in Limapuluh Kota Regency follows the applicable regulations, both with the disclosure of proposals from the DPRD and the Regional Heads by involving the leading sector SKPD in the formulation process. The Local Regulation (Ranperda) proposal has also been formatted through an Academic Paper process. This research was a single case study obtained from the objective data of billboards along Slamet Riyadi Street Surakarta. The data sources were from the commercial billboards considering several criteria that have been determined in which the billboards should not be owned by either district government or individual, for campaign purposes, made in 2018, and so on. Those billboards are billboard from Gofood, McDonald's, and Samsung Galaxy Note9. Subsequently, effective data were obtained through observation and interview from informants in readability process. Manifestation of billboard as a form of discourse generates meaning based on critical discourse analysis approach. In addition to the function of billboard as marketing aspect of the company, it also functions to deliver important information, knowledge, and educative information for the readers. This research results show that the readability, meaning, and function of foreign languages assumption on advertisement of billboard are different from the marketing concept. Nonetheless, an emergence of foreign languages provides space for the readers to learn the vocabulary in facing globalization era. The Sêrat Kawruh Mahnitismê will be written as SKM in this essay. This manuscript is in manuscript song form which consists of 13 pupuh ‘lyric’, and written using Javanese alphabet and in Javanese language that have been both translated and transcribed into Latin language. The manuscript is stored in Kerataon Surakarta Hadiningrat library Sasanapustaka containing teachings about how a person gets a perfection and used it as a tool to fulfill his dreams. This research is done in the area of Cultural Studies with qualitative data analysis and descriptive and interpretative analysis techniques that use a hermeneutic approach. This research use content analysis and library studies as method of data collection. The theory use is Michael Foucault discourse theory.
