The research is descriptive in nature by semi-structured interviews and direct observation to PCV living in Kediri. The results of the research reveal that the culture shocks encountered are of three sorts: psychological, behavioral, and interpersonal communication change. Psychological change is of four kinds: using right-left hand, male-female interaction, asking personal privacy, and shake-hand. Moreover, the study also reveals three strategies to cope with culture shocks. They are self-confidence and optimism, accepting a new culture, and social support. It may be difficult to PCV to accept all differences with pleasure. However, a tolerant attitude and an open mind make them better to communicate with Community Liaison (CL). Eventually, by other people’s assistance, the PCV were able to encounter the culture shock.","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74613568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study employs Ricoeur’s hermeneutics that applies two steps of reading: distantiation to obtain an objective understanding of the novel and an appropriation through putting the objective understanding of the novel in the socio-cultural context. This study attempts to offer the term “anti-mimicry”, borrowing Bhabha’s term’ to explain the subjectivity of the female character who stand out against the white domination to resist through savage and barbarous manners to mock the dominator, the white. Through the refusal to mimic, Conrad provides a space for Malay women consciousness to develop her subjectivity that could be construed as Conrad’s ambiguous perspective to white superiority in the colonialized era.","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"82 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90633510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to describe the details and the meaning of the makeup, hair styling, clothing, and accessories for Banjar brides. This study was also to describe the Islamic values in the bridal makeup and its potential to be used as character education. This qualitative research used John Fiske's critical ethnographic and semiotic approaches in three areas of study namely signs, codes, and cultures. Data were collected by using interview, observation, and documentation and processed using coding technique. Results showed that Banjar bridal makeup ornaments were in the form of flora, fauna, nature, and geometric. The ornaments described women who were faithful, devout, hardworking, tenacious, patient, humble, and self-respect. Islamic values were manifested in the relationship between humans and God namely faith, Islam, and ihsan (generosity). Human relationship was manifested in a form of social status and kinship. Human-nature relationship was in a form of harmony as well as in a form of noble self-attitude and tough mentality. This make-up could be developed into a media of character education for the bride and groom to create a happily faith-based family.","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78173299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The constituents of LD fill their alternative positions within the core clause with the form of ‘-nya’ in Indonesian syntax. The Left Dislocation of ‘-nya’ is classified as the Clitic-type Left Dislocation. A coreferential copy of '-nya' is presented grammatically without variation, and this clitic presents a metonymic link between the referents of LD constructions. This study found that there is strong connectivity in Indonesian between the dislocated constituent and the core clause. LD in Indonesian allows a higher degree of Topic-prominence than other languages which were classified typologically as Subject-prominent languages. In the light of this Topic-prominence in Indonesian in the LD structures, this paper revises the relation between Topicalization and LD. The phenomenon of Topicalization is proposed to be merged within the notion of LD and be explained as Zero-type LD. It is concluded that the LD structures in Indonesian represent Topic-prominence features to classify Indonesian as the language that is both Subject-prominent and Topic-prominent.","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77488435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Language does not only work to articulate meaning but also to send and build image. In this sense, language has been commodified. This fact becomes more obvious in tourism industry in which language plays vital role to construct brand as well as to reach targeted profit. Based on these premises, this research aims to unravel the phenomenon of language commodification in Baturraden Tourism areas within the framework of Linguistic Landscape. The descriptive qualitative research was conducted through observation, documentation and interview. Data in the forms of photographs were gathered to be analyzed and interpreted to capture the language commodification manifested in the selected areas. The analysis shows that language commodification is materialized through the use of Indonesian, English and Javanese. English serves a dominant language in this tourism industry. Most tourist destinations prefer using English to Indonesian as national language to label their place. The issue of branding therefore becomes obvious to elevate the market and effectively attract the visitors. English, rather than functions as referential meaning, serves economic functions. Here, English is more powerful than other given languages. English offers higher prestige, modernity and promising brand to be beneficial for this industry. Then, Javanese is maintained to introduce the history or local legend as well as to bring the sense of authenticity.","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"27 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83290694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
