The racism in the US must attain multitudes international attentions due to diversity of the people, including Asians with diverse races. The purposes of this study are to investigate how the ideology of racism is constructed through language and why the racism is occurred in pluralistic society of the US. The data for this study is two bilingual talks of Oliver Prass in KOMPAS TV. The CDA is adopted as tool to explore and discover racism ideology though language representation. The result on textual dimension with transitivity process depicts that racism ideology occurs in different forms to show effect of personal feeling and psychological effect from racist people toward the victims. In discursive dimension, to emphasize a hidden agenda of a discourse requires the speaker status and position during producing the language; for instance, as social activist, victims, and Indonesian. Then in social practices implies the reason why racism is existing; those are as a defense mechanism, economic anxiety, personality profile and power as well as authority abuse by the government that may lead to racism treatment on minorities by discrimination and negative prejudice.","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91349557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Folklore has an essential message as an implied message for the reader or listener. Folklore is the ethnic creativity of traditional communities that maintains the culture and is firm in living traditions that are passed down from generation to generation. This study aims to highlight the local wisdom of the Sipirok tribal community through its folklore. This research uses qualitative research methods with ethnographic design, which includes data collection of folklore texts, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The data of this research is sourced from the analysis of data from Angkola folklore collected in the book ‘Turi-turn Nihalak Angkola Banggo-banggo’. This research reveals that folklore texts have a wealth of philosophical values that reflect the characteristics of indigenous peoples that have existed from the past until now which are still maintained as wisdom that is still upheld by indigenous communities. As one of the intangible assets of the Angkola Sipirok community, which has an ethnic culture, it is reflected in the characteristics of the Angkola Sipirok indigenous people who teach values as local wisdom. Based on the data analysis of the Sipirok ‘Turi-turian’ folklore, several local pearls of wisdom were found: persistence, hard work, deliberation, cooperation, social spirit, and willingness to help.  ","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85820697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims at finding out the translation problems and formulating the strategies best applicable in translating legal texts from bahasa Indonesia into English. This is a descriptive study using a document analysis as the method. The data were 15 legal texts having been translated from bahasa Indonesia into English by semi-professional translators. In analysing the data, the document analysis was carried out by skimming, reading, and interpreting the translated legal texts. The results of data analysis reveal three general problems in translating legal texts done by the semi-professional translators, including finding the right equivalent, translator’s insufficient knowledge of English legal language and source text decoding. To overcome such problems, four strategies are proposed: (i) utilizing online resources, (ii) finding the proposition of the legal sentence, (iii) using a description technique, and (iv) employing functional approach to translation. It is concluded that translating legal texts requires translator’s good knowledge of applicable laws and language competence in both the source language and target language.","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"89 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87477599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article attempts to depict how the strategy of the governor candidate pair Sudrajat-Akhmad Syaikhu (henceforth ASYIK) in gaining the votes in the local leader election. This study used a documentation method with a type of descriptive analysis. The data were taken from online media including Liputan6.com, Detik.com, Pikiran-Rakyat.com, and Republika.com. It was found that the ASYIK candidate pair used campaign strategy by localizing national issues so that it could increase the electability and gain a large number of votes on election day. Unexpectedly, by using this strategy, they could get second place with the most votes. Whereas, previously, from the findings of several survey institutions, the ASYIK pair was predicted to be in the third position with a large gap of electability and popularity behind the top two pairs. But, after final counting and recapitulation of the election that was held on 27th June 2018, ASYIK ranked in the top two after overtaking the pair of Dedy Mizwar – Dedy Mulyadi.","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"179 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83404637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data for this qualitative study were English borrowing words and phrases functioning to denote Covid-19 issues which are massively used by Indonesians. The data were obtained from various sources such as mass media, official documents, notices in public places, daily conversation, and others. The classification of borrowing by Haugen (1950) was used in this study. Data analysis was done by comparing the original forms of the loanwords and the phonologically-and-morphologically ‘imitated’ ones. Findings of this study reveal that English loans on Covid-19 can be classified into loanwords, loanblends, and loanshift, each of which has its own borrowing processes. None-phonemic substitution, partial-phonemic substitution, and total phonemic substitution are the borrowing process of loanwords. Spelling adjustment and letter omission are the borrowing methods of loanblends. Loan translation is the only borrowing process for loanshift. This study recommends that future research use more data on health realm in order to make a more comprehensive description of the borrowing process in Indonesian. Keywords: borrowing process; covid-19, loanblend; loanshift; loanword.   ","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79948069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, this is influencing the current image of Malacca and being dubbed The World Heritage City by UNESCO. This study aims to read the identity of the Malacca region represented through artifacts, archival management, archives stored in information institutions and building sites. The role of traditional institutions, the archival institution of the Malacca State Archives (ANM) and the Perbadanan Muzium Melaka (Perzim) in shaping a culture of memory through documentation work and archives management has a major impact on strengthening the identity of the Malacca region as an area with rich cultural values and historical narratives that surround it. In this case, cultural practices and documentation works are human rights so that it requires recognition from the government and society. This is also inseparable from the role of community, customary institutions and information institutions in safeguarding regional collective memory, preserving local wisdom and regional historicity through documentation work and holistic archives management. In general, the Malacca identity is deeply rooted in the social, economic, and cultural activities of the community.","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91391728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objectives of this study are to identify divergent of ideational realizations in the translation and what cause them. The study is a descriptive qualitative with an embedded case study. The linguistics data of this study included all the lingual units of translation namely clauses, phrases and words in the monologue and dialogue of the main character in graphic novel V for Vendetta: Europe After Reign by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. The content analysis is used to determine the divergent of Ideational metafunction meanings in translation by comparing the source texts and target texts. The results show the divergent of Ideational realizations in the translation occur in (1) experiential meaning (transitivity structure and lexical items) (2) logical meaning. The divergences in transitivity structure and lexical items are caused by idiom phrases, politeness strategy, and intertextuality. The logical subtype divert in clauses interdependency which caused by two factors namely (1) the translation not maintaining the structure of the source language by downgrading in clause rank and (2) the limitations of the speech balloon format. ","PeriodicalId":31684,"journal":{"name":"Humanus Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmuilmu Humaniora","volume":"52 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73623705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The series not only features intercivilisational belligerence via a fecundity of imagination and richness of imagery-evoking representation, but also manifests humanity and benevolence, so it has attained a loyal readership and commercial success. Notwithstanding critical acclamation, this male-authored trilogy encounters contentiousness concerning gender discrimination.
