{"title":"Confidence Hypothesis about Efficiency of Specific Strategies (CHESS): A Novel Parameter and its Possible Significance in Application","authors":"P. Kambakis-Vougiouklis","doi":"10.23756/SP.V5I1.328","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.23756/SP.V5I1.328","url":null,"abstract":"In this paper a novel term is introduced to cover for a parameter already investigated in a number of experiments conducted in the Democritus University, without, yet, being identified with a specific name. The aim of all those studies was to investigate the learning strategies frequency of use in correlation with the confidence of the subjects as to whether and to what extent such strategies enhance their language learning. In the specific experiment forty eight students from the first three grades in a State Secondary school, in Thrace, Greece, were recruited through convenience sampling, twenty four Greek native speakers and twenty four Turkish native speakers with Greek as their second language. There were sixteen learners out of each grade, eight of low and eight of high level in English, four male, four female, forty eight learners altogether, twenty four male and twenty four female students. The students had to indicate not only the level of frequency of strategy use but also their confidence in those strategies’ effectiveness; this is the introduced term Confidence Hypothesis about Efficiency of Specific Strategies (CHESS). Furthermore, the students used the Vougiouklis & Vougiouklis bar (2008) instead of the widely used Likert scale for the filling in of the questionnaires minimizing time and effort. The questionnaire used was the translated in Greek and validated SILL questionnaire with 50 items. This link was very tight in the past but, unfortunately, today is a little lost. Authors show how the mathematics have been an important instrument in the development of music, especially in the creation of musical scales. The musical relationships have also been used in architecture with different motives, according to the historical periods in which they have been used. In order to better explain how these musical proportions fit into architectural works, numerous figures are presented. Sunto Nella presente nota si presentano alcuni aspetti del legame fra musica, matematica ed architettura. Questo collegamento era molto stretto nel passato ma, purtroppo, oggi si e un po’ perduto. Gli autori mostrano come la matematica sia stata un importante strumento nello sviluppo della musica, soprattutto nella creazione delle scale musicali. Da Vitruvio in poi i rapporti musicali sono stati usati anche nell’architettura con motivazioni diverse, secondo i periodi storici in cui sono stati adoperati. Allo scopo di spiegare meglio come queste proporzioni musicali si adattano alle opere architettoniche, sono presentate numerose figure. The existence of the cultural genocide as autonomous crime, in fact, is and has been over the time, as will be seen in the course of the discussion, a highly debated theme in doctrine. Despite in the last years more voices have been raised for its recognition, the prevailing position is that the crime of genocide doesn’t constitute if the behaviors that mine the culture of the protected groups are not accompanied by actions of physical or biological aggression. The paper therefore provides a definition of the concept also through the reconstruction of the genesis of its first theorization by the undisputed father of this specific crime Raphael Lemkin. Sunto Scopo di questo studio e analizzare la posizione assunta dal diritto internazionale circa la tutela che si e ritenuto di dover accordare al legame tra un popolo ed il suo patrimonio culturale nell’ambito della disciplina di un crimine specifico: il genocidio. La sussistenza del genocidio culturale come fattispecie autonoma, infatti, e ed e stata nel tempo, come si vedra nel corso della trattazione, un tema assai dibattuto in dottrina. Nonostante negli ultimi anni piu voci si siano levate per il suo riconoscimento, la posizione che si e affermata quale prevalente e quella per cui non possa configurarsi il crimine di genocidio qualora siano perpetrate delle condotte che minano la cultura di uno dei gruppi protetti di cui si intende perseguire la distruzione, prescindendo pero da forme di aggressione fisica o biologica nei confronti dei suoi membri. Si cerchera dunque di fornire una definizione del concetto anche attraverso la ricostruzione della genesi della sua prima teorizzazione ad opera del padre indiscusso del crimine, Raphael Lemkin. This analysis seeks to consider the peculiarities of the regional context observed, namely the Abruzzi. With the increase of the free time and the individual connectivity, many new rituals are instituted to realize fictions and new expressive items that refer to the past time and corroborate the stake-holders through theatral clothes. These commemorations of the local past time are certainly not fake, because are a popular production that is originated by the modern culture industry. Of course, these commemorations of the local past time are not even a copy, because there is not even the original, i.e. an authentic and closed culture, composed of inventoried and durable items. The inventories of traditional and popular culture should better define a vibrant culture and addressed to the local meanings. These new popular trends through appropriate training can be cultivated with responsibility and creativity to support a sustainable culture of the places, as indicated by the International Conventions for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (UNESCO 2003). Una Base per lo Sviluppo Socio-Economico? Gli Inventari Partecipativi delle Tradizioni Locali Il processo di costruzione dell’identita collettiva e plurale. Questa analisi cerca di considerare le particolarita del contesto regionale osservato, ovvero l’Abruzzo. Con l’aumento del tempo libero e della connettivita individuale, si sono creati nuovi spazi espressivi che realizzano finzioni rituali riferite al passato e si basano sull’uso di costumi di scena. Queste rievocazioni non sono certo contraffazioni messe in circolo dalla moderna industria culturale: non esiste una copia, perche non esiste neppure l’originale, cioe una cultura autentica e chiusa, composta di elementi inventariabili e conservabili per sempre. Gli inventari della cultura tradizionale e popolare, infatti, definiscono una cultura viva e rivolta allo sviluppo locale. Le nuove tendenze dell’espressivita popolare, attraverso idonei interventi di formazione, possono essere indotte all’uso piu responsabile e creativo delle risorse locali e a sostenere una auspicabile cultura dei luoghi, come indicato dalle Convenzioni Internazionali per la Salvaguardia del Patrimonio Culturale Immateriale (UNESCO 2003). It initially consists of the texts of four lectures held in 1943 at the Yale University, in the United States under the title \"Education at the Crossroads\", published for the first time in 1943. The contents of these conferences has been published by Fayard in 1959 with the title \"Pour une philosophie de l’education\". This essay by Maritain was later re-modeled to the last edition in French (1969). The work outlines the main coordinates of the educational philosophy of Jacques Maritain, and consists of four sections: I. The errors of contemporary pedagogy; II. The educational relationship; III. Liberal education; IV. Complementary tasks. Maritain emphasizes persons' formation as the primary purpose of education to the American pragmatism and European rationalism, noting that every educational project, of every background it may be, always implies a precise anthropology, sometimes implied. The educational relationship is to avoid the double error of a conception \"despotic\" on the part of the teacher and of a conception \"anarchist\" by the pupil. Education must tend to unity of knowledge, making sure that the learning process begins from the experience, but always ends in reason. The final chapters relate more specifically to the organization of education in America, but the first two chapters offer a real philosophical approach to education. This is based on a vision of the person who activates the spiritual dimension, undermined by the development of an individual's technical design. \"Education at the crossroads\" (which is located in the French neo-Thomism, philosophical and theological contemporary movement focused on the recovery of the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas, who is considered, with appropriate adaptations and interpretations, source of knowledge and imperishable spiritual guides) speaks to the need for \"education\" of the man based on its core value.The work also contains the Maritain's view of the role of the school in society, with particular reference to the situation in the United States and France during the era of his contemporary. However, not all individuals are able to satisfactorily activate the skill of reasoning. It is undeniable that a fundamental step towards this activation is the development of mathematical skills, which are a common heritage of all human beings.
